You know, flight games are still around. In fact, there have been several decent ones this generation.
That being said, we're hoping that Ubisoft takes the next step beyond "decent" and provides us with a true gem in Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 . The original was good so perhaps the sequel will be amongst the elite titles of 2010; it'll soar onto shelves nationwide on September 3. To get a taste of the high-flying goodness, Ubisoft has announced that a demo will be on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace in "the middle of August." Game Content Director Bogdan Bridinel told Strategy Informer that this demo will give you the chance to test a few of the game's new features. This may include taking off, landing, mid-air refueling, and yes, possibly even 4-player co-op. Said Bridinel:
"At least on consoles, there will be a demo before the launch of the game. The demo will be online sometime in the middle of August, I'm afraid I do not know the exact date. All I know is that we've already built it. The demo will feature (sic) some of the new features we talked about earlier. Hope you will enjoy it!"
For the record, the PC version of the game will launch a week or two after the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions hit stores. With a definite nod to authenticity, perhaps H.A.W.X. 2 will be exactly what the flight enthusiasts crave, and we've heard that even if you don't like simulators, you can still have fun with different modes. We'll definitely have to try that demo next month.

I've never played too many flight games other than the classic X-Wing on PC. I'll try out this demo, though! Who knows? Maybe I'll love it!
This is a demo I will give a thorough tryout to. I've been looking for a good flight combat game, not a simulator, a game, for a while.
HAWX 1 was deffo flight combat and not simulation, and previews have generally said the mechanics are more of the same, so you should be pretty safe here. The Blazing Angels games are also solid flight combat as well, as is the 'arcade' setting on IL-2 Birds of Prey (although these games are all pretty much prop rather than jet games). Never played Heroes over Europe, but that's supposed to be flight-combat as well, didn't review that strongly though.
Was the 1st HAWX game any good? Never really play too many flight combat games. I'll check out the demo but to be honest I'm itchin to by GOW III if I can just stop playing UC2 Multiplayer.
Well, go check out my user review on the game on this site. I put a ton of time in it en route to the Platinum trophy.
It's not great, but it was still very good.
Outstanding. I was hoping a demo would come out on this game. I can't wait to try it out.
i just hope that it does not feel like an arcade flight game like the first one did. but what i really want is an ace combat. aahh yeah!
Can't wait for the demo, always been a fan of flying games and if this one proves to be halfway decent then it will be a must buy. Not sure how I'm going to fit it into the list but it'll be worth a few hours overtime.. hopefully
Good. Glad to hear there will be demo for this game. I loved the first HAWX game, mostly due to playing it with a joystick on my PS3. So I'm sure this will be just as fun, if not more. I just hope they kept the joystick compatibility for the PS3 in the game.
Haha theres too many games i just bought blur and heavy rain yesterday
meh, ill be waiting for this to hit the bargain bin before i go anywhere near it!
i had such high hopes for HAWX, but it was far too repetitive and frustrating!
i play a fighter jet game to blow planes out of the sky!
not to constantly have to fly past the same bit of ground doping bombs mission after mission!
it was so fu*king frustrating!!!!!!!!
you have a million enemies attacking you, but so little resources!
you have enemy aircraft shooting you, so you have to shoot back otherwise you die.
but than you cant shoot the enemy air craft because than you cant protect the ground troops so than the ground troops die!
it was like balancing a unicycle on a 2mm beam on a 10 story building! while juggling flaming touches, and dodging knifes thrown at ya!
ONE THING AT A TIME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is nothing special about these features given the fact they are a staple these days. Ontop of that the type of fighter planes are pretty much the standard affair.
But anyhow I have all but given up on unrealistic flight sims/games such as Ace Combat, the only exception being the Blazing Angels games.

Just give us back our Ace Combat Playstation franchise, damn it!
