Ben-DutkaOkay, we're not entirely sure what's going on here, but anything Grand Theft Auto -related is almost always news-worthy.
The source remains unknown and the details are almost nil, but VG247 went to a ton of trouble to drop a supposed hint concerning the setting of the fifth GTA. It takes a while to reach but it's down there towards the end of the last set of dialogue: evidently, Rockstar plans to put their newest iteration of the long-running and award-winning series in Hollywood. Now, without anything official (or even semi-official, really), please take this with a grain of salt. In reading the comments to the article, even the regular readers appear confused; they can't really tell if this is just a creative piece for the sake of getting a popular title on the web, or if they actually have an inside scoop. Either way, it's well worth discussing, right? And it gives us the chance to ask you: where would you want GTAV to be? Personally, although I know it won't happen, I've been hoping for a true-blue sequel to Vice City . So, so, so awesome…
Hey, we got Final Fantasy X-2 ; how come we couldn't get Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 2 ? And get Ray Liotta back as the voice of Tommy Vercetti, too.
Maybe it means GTAV will just be a Hollywood movie.
At any rate, they better not touch New Orleans, cuz New Marais belongs to Cole McGrath!

Personally dont really care where its set. The game will be fun, although after GTA4, and then playing RDR, I don't get all amped about the game.
I'd take another Red Dead over the next GTA any day.
Agreed. That game completely changed how I feel bout R*. I cant say they are are not enjoying there wealth but after GTA4 And the whole exclusitivity thing with the 360. I kind of felt like they were just trying to cash out on GTA in general. GTA4 was bland to me, didn't feel like a true experience.
RDR rejuvenated me, and brought me some of my best gaming experiences this year! Heck this generation!
I'm loving the idea of vice city two. Best GTA game ever. Vice City was the most fun, San Andreas was the most amazing because of the shear amount of things you could do and I feel GTAIV was kinda a step back from San Andreas if you ask me.
vice city is amazing no doubt but come on san andreas was amazing especially the humor in san andreas an the gangn wars

open world games have taken such a dive this gen!
best open world game this gen is by far just cause 2, but even that pales in comparison with vice city, san andreas or even true crime!

Im thinking that a return to europe would be pretty cool in a GTA game. Last time was an add on pack and not even 3D!! Considering the size of San Andreas you could probably do the whole of Great Britain. There are loads of story options…. london gangsters as in types like "the krays" there could be an Irish thing going on. The Scots have there own "gangs" and are pretty ruthless. Not sure what the Welsh bring tho!!! lol. This is more than feasable as R* is based in scotland anyway!!
If it makes a difference swaying you all the main protagonist could be American 🙂
Other than that I am very intersted in the idea of it being set in the East. A GTA in japan or china could be pretty cool…. Triads etc.
Also agree there needs to be more to do this time. San andreas had soooooo much to do you didnt need to do missions. Whereas GTA4 there wasnt so much. Where did the gambling go?? Where did the car mods go??

Cheers Beam!! Have thought a bout new GTA a lot really. Was sorta hoping GTA4 woulda been GTA:Britain! lol. Im getting sold more on the Oriental GTA tho. Worrying that it might just be a bit of a Yakuza clone tho. Your Jamaica idea is pretty good loadsa gangs there for action. But for taking the p**s you cant beat the French!! lol. There would be blokes on bikes with stripey tops on and onions round there necks!! hahahahahaha
Lol – yeah. Not to mention the french radio stations, oh man the Rockstar guys would have gone totally nuts given that scenario. 😀
But really, your idea about the british islands is the best. The irish/scotch/british differences are just perfect for a game like this. San Andreas to the next level indeed.

Regarding the question of where the next GTA should be, I wish they moved out of the states this time. They've already made fun of hillbillys, hollywood, hispanics, gangs, drugs, immigration, the american dream, they've done all the cliché's about the states. It's time to go make fun of somewhere new. I'd love to see England/London (with stiff upper lips british), Jamaica (chill maaaan, have a spliff), Japan (with all their martial arts, ying/yang and paper houses), old Russia back in the 70s/80s, or France, how much fun couldn't be made about the french?
