If you're one of those people who really want to sample a game before buying, you'll definitely want to sign on to the PSN or Xbox Live Marketplace in a few weeks time.
Because that's when the playable demo for Mafia II will be available to download. According to a new print advertisement for the promising game, as noticed by CVG , the demo will be ready for a test spin on August 10. We knew it would be released next month – remember, the full game releases on August 24 – but we didn't have an exact date until now. Mafia II is the type of game that should appeal to most Grand Theft Auto lovers; the dark, gritty, open-world sandbox style with a solid storyline is very reminiscent of Rockstar's gargantuan franchise. We're just getting a different atmosphere for this potential summer gem, and we're really hoping it turns out to be a worthwhile experience for fans of this gaming type. The original was decent but fell a little shy in some technical and gameplay aspects, so we're hoping the sequel addresses those issues and gives us a more refined product.
Well, they've had plenty of time and there are far more powerful consoles at their disposal, so it should turn out well. We'll have to see.

Very much looking forward to Mafia II. It should be a great experience!
From what I have seen/read it looks very authentic and the single player adventure should be fairly deep.
It will be interesting to experience the re-playability of the title though. Without multi-player to fall back on, it will be interesting to see how many times you want to go back to the game.
Being Italian, the Mafia theme sits well with me…

They could always add a multiplayer map down the line. Otherwise a solid looking game so far. I will download the demo as soon as its out.
no multiplayer?? YES!! That (hopefully) means an excellent single-player experience, and also no online trophies!!
watching the trailers of this game definitely made me interested… i loved the gta and the godfather series, so hope i like this one. never played the first, was it really that bad to play?
I liked the first mafia better than the first godfather, personally.
The first 'Mafia' is an absolute classic to many a gamer, myself included.
I think a lot of people have just been soured on the PS2/Xbox ports that were released a couple years later (the main issue, as I recall, was very long loading times, though all versions contained a mission of infamous difficulty as well). The developers fully admit that they made many mistakes with the ports, but they also decided to make 'Mafia II' multiplatform from it's conception due to lackluster results the first time around.
And it seems to have worked out well, since all the hands-on previews I've read thus far have been very positive and they've run the gamut of home consoles.

It's not on my list of must haves. But I love me some demos of games I might like.
What is your Avatar pic from? If anybody eles knows can you tell me please.
That is from the movie "Deathproof" – I highly recommend the rental of that one.
yes deathproof! great car flick though not one of Tarantino's best movies.
Thanks guys, I'll see if I can find next time I go to the Rental store.
Definitely glad there's going to be a demo. I will probably be getting the game either way but it's always nice to give something a shot before you make the final decision.
i would love to play this, but i have so many games i have to beat it's ridiculous.
Same here. I'm certainly not going to waste time playing gimped demos. If it's good, the critics and gamers will let us know.
yeah i can't spend 60 on this. i'll wait on the gamers review also.
I enjoyed the first one but had changed it 3 times because about half way through the game, it froze at the exact same spot so after exchanging it a few times I had to concede and get a refund. I enjoyed what I played of it though so am looking forward to this one
I don't know which version you had or what you played it on, but just as a warning to anyone who reads this:
The original 'Mafia' for PS2 is NOT compatible with any model of the PS3. It always freezes at the exact same spot.
I hope its good. I don't want to have to cancel my preorder.
Awesome I'll be downloading the Demo the second it available. This game looking very good and I hope it turns out great.
I wonder if the auto download works for this if you have PS Plus
I already have the Collector's Edition pre-ordered, but I'm still looking forward to the demo, so I can whet my appetite even further for it.

I really liked the first one and have been looking forward to this one since they announced it. I'm really glad that there is going to be a demo, they always help me decide how quick to buy the game.
I have so many games I haven't played yet tho, I could probly wait for a goty edition and still not be caught up. lol
How many MB or GB will this demo be? This could be more than 2 GB. I know it won't be rinky-dinky in size.
Not interested in playing a demo…those things lie. Most likely going to purchase Mafia II day one if early reviews from trustworthy site are posted with respectable score of 8.5 and up.
You shouldn't go by peoples review because you just might like a game even if it got a bad score. Rent it or play a demo before you buy.
Cant wait to play the demo, a question to the people that have played Mafia (PC Version), does the game work with the PS3 controller? I dont want to buy a gamepad and hate to use the keyboard to play games.
booooooooooooo why so late!
i hate it when developers wait 2 weeks before release to do a demo!
oh well ive waited several years for this, i guess another 3 weeks wont kill me!
Played demo, looks iffy to me and made me feel queezy when running
Hey! this is a great news. Can't wait to test drive this bad boy.
