Killzone 2 didn't play like Call of Duty . In fact, it didn't play like any other shooter; this is what set it apart; a distinguishing characteristic where many FPS fans said, " finally , we have weight; we feel like we're controlling an entire human rather than a disembodied gun!"
Well, if you're in the latter group, prepare to be a little disappointed. Obviously, the backlash from the complainers was just too much, as Guerrilla Games has confirmed in the July 2010 edition of the Official PlayStation Magazine that KZ3 "will have a set of controls that will appeal to the vast majority of audiences." Studio boss Herman Hulst is quoted as saying the "heavy sensation of Killzone 2 is absolutely gone; instead, this feels much closer to standard run-and-gun responsiveness." Unfortunately, in our eyes, this is a step backwards because it was this particular aspect of KZ2 that actually made it feel physically correct; we're an elite soldier with a ton of gear and a heavy weapon, and that's about how we'd probably move. But clearly, there were just too many FPS fans who liked things the way they were and in order to appeal to the majority – as so many developers are doing these days – Guerrilla has made the necessary(?) changes.
Well, there's certainly nothing wrong with the footage and media we've seen thus far. I always thought in looking at the videos that everything seemed faster, but I couldn't be sure…maybe the alteration will be more subtle than we think.

I think a lot of the responses here are knee jerk reactions to this news. I trust that GG will strike a good balance between the 2.
Personally i feel that having two types of controls as options in the single player isn't the best way to go about it.
I didn't mind the feel of KZ2 but i also don't think everyone who disliked the weighted feel were just "twitch CoD Fans" like a lot of people seem to claim.
This is GG's game and i feel they will do what they feel is right for the fanbase. Bottom line is More responsive controls don't equal a less weighted feel to the game. BFBC2 does weight pretty well with the exception of rocket launchers. If the controls are similar to that, it would satisfy both sides of the issue
You say "good balance", I say "completely changed".
"Studio boss Herman Hulst is quoted as saying the "heavy sensation of Killzone 2 is absolutely gone; instead, this feels much closer to standard run-and-gun responsiveness.""
I hope you're right but the way he says it doesn't seem to indicate it.
i believe these new controls will give a sense of lightness to sev. last i checked, sev doesn't have to much gear on him anymore. hes a rougue now, not a soldier.
either way, im still getting it… but im a little disappointed
Let's face it. If you're making an fps in this day and age, the competition is fierce. You have to do what the crowd wants or you won't sell and you won't be played.
I think this is a brilliant move because they certainly have the graphics down. They've even promised proper voice acting.
Last thing to fix was the controls and here we go. Looks to be a serious contender for FPS of the year seeing as how Treyarch is behind COD this year.
Yeah I definitely agree. As much as I loved KZ2, I tried to play it the other day and man I really noticed how slow the movement was. Seriously, quicker controls will definitely enhance the games playability for those who hate it. I personally would like to see a middle ground met between heavy and fast sensation. KZ2 does have a heavy sensation and I did enjoy it at first, but now the feeling is kind of annoying, but GG…dont get rid of it totally.
Yup because when I'm creating something or writing a song i think of what the masses want before my own creative vision. That's always the best way to create something. Listen to the mediocrity that pervades most forms of art or entertainment. Always a winner!
I am not easily excited for shooters but removing the unique weighted control would be disappointing it made Killzone more realistic.
Eh, not all that happy they took away the weight KZ2 became known for. It allowed really intense and realistic situations. I can understand making it a bit lighter and quicker but not to the extent of a CoD
Just my two cents:
I find it odd how many people think it is "noobs" that wanted the faster controls with more precision. Precision is not aim assist. Im talkin about dead zones.
If you guys like the controls, I hope they do have an option for it 'cause trust me you will be getting shot in the head by me and my precise shots…
Also, what is the point of using your iron sights? You shoot like a laser off the hip btw, not realistic.
The way I see it it is call of duty , minus the accuracy and the sensitivity capped at 4. And to my understanding all the CoD BEASTS play with 10 sensitivity. Of course if you cut out all the players 5 and above all your left with is "noobs".
I hope they leave your controls and oblige ours and we'll see who is the "noob".
I don't get your comment about the iron sites. When firing a weapon such an assault rifle its always better to use the sites.
I'm just saying people online in K2 usually hip fire and that it is too accurate. So accurate that there is almost no point in using your sights which is unrealistic.
Ah gotcha. I think the reason people do that its because its a tad difficult using the iron sites. More so then other FPS. That i agree needs tweaking.
Not sure we played the same game wage, last i check hip firing on KZ2 was anything but accurate.
People hip fire to avoid some of the recoil the rifles can cause, its not actually all that accurate but after playing it for a while you can pull off good kills with hip fire. I prefer the iron sights on most weapons but hip fire on the helghast rifle on multiplayer
Lets not pretend like hip firing isn't a good tactic on MW2, its pretty lethal on that game at close to mid range once you get use to it

The only weapon I hip fire is the Helghast LMG because it does not have an iron sight.

I haven't played for a while since a few weeks after the precision patch. This was one of the reasons I stopped playing. The benefit of scoping is, imo, not worth the delay than hip spraying because of the high accuracy.
Not only that there was something that I cannot put my finger on that gave me motion sickness. The input lag didn't help.
I LOVE the visuals and it is the game I usually show Xbots to fend them off. However I'd be lying to myself if I felt personally multiplayer was flawless.
I apologize if I came off kinda like a douche at any point but just because the controls suit your personal styles doesn't mean those of us that see the potential but missed the enjoyment because of control preference should be overlooked. I think it would do wonders for the competitiveness. The maps were awesome and are large enough to maintain the balance.
PS
Being a twitch gamer shouldn't be an insult unless its outside of shooters to the detriment of a genre…RPG's
i bet if cod were to get the weight feeling in it, people wouldn't wine and need a tissue cause its cod. i think people are so up the cod arse with thinking that every fps needs to be like cod or it sucks. cod is good but its just another house hold name that gets abused like how madden is and release every year. kz2 wasn't perfect but sher was in the right direction a lil with the weight feeling in the guns.
why the F*CK!
omg
all i can say is i hope its good.
im a huge fan of KZ2 because of the weight.
You know, it's probably just because the only other FPSs I've played are Resistance and Bioshock, but I didn't even notice the difference in the weighted controls. To me, it seemed to really fit the world of the game, and it wasn't like it made it overly difficult, or god forbid, cheap. I actually thought it worked quite well, but I sincerely doubt I'll notice this new difference much. As for shooting from the hip vs. Iron Sights, I definitely preferred the iron sights. Standard shooting was all over the shop in KZ2. Which reminds me, I've still got to see if my Xbot is selling his original copy of Killzone… Then I play the two in succession in the weeks leading up to KZ3 and make my brain explode from shooter overload.
Peace.
i actually watched the qore episode and they actually said they were trying to make the game more accessible to run and gun players. where the hell did they do their research, a call of duty site?
oh great the one think i liked about KZ2 is now gone!?
excellent, this is turning out to be the resident evil 5 of 2011!
this is why i wish casual gamers would just crawl up and die!
its fine when they stick to their games, but every now and then they spread into new titles and destroy them too!
KZ2 had perfect controls, why the &^%$ are GG giving in to these idiots?
this is exactly like the cut scenes in assassins creed, casuals complained o boo hoo there too long.
so for AC2 they cut them down allot, and now we miss out on all the interesting dialogue.
they were there for a reason, they allowed the victim to explain why he did what he did, and try to explain its for the good of man kind.
another game a casualty to casual gamers!
like the industry going mainstream, turning it from a love fest to a cash cow was not bad enough!
honestly give it 3, maybe 5 years and this industry will be dead!
it will be full of nintendo, and casual games.
thank god my ps1 still works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
plus, theres always emulators.
Holy f**cking over dramatical responses Batman! All of that because they plan on tweaking the controls? Really?
I kinda sorta maybe agree on the last comment.
The industry is going downhill due to the increasing greed of companies.
It's the same with most major companies or anything in the world lol.
well, you have the greed on one hand than on the other you have developers changing their games to suit the masses.
splinter cell conviction changed from hardcore stealth game to action game, MGS the same, assassins creed lost its long cut scenes, KZ2 lost what made it unique, FFXIII was changed from a true traditional JRPG to a more action oriented RPG.
how is this a overreaction, when the games i like and enjoy playing are going out the window?
people just sat there and did nothing while turn based RPGs went the way of the dodo, how did that turn out?
Why do you care anyway no name? Your not getting kz3 because it's just kz2 with jetpacks remember?
::rollseyes::
that sounds like some crap he would say jawknee.
Its an over reaction because you haven't even played the damn game yet. You over react to just about every thing
Last edited by aaronisbla on 7/13/2010 12:29:15 PM
lol hes said it many many times. I don't get this kid.
since when does saying KZ3 looks like KZ2 with jetpacks mean im not getting it?
god, please Jawknee never go to a shooting range.
otherwise you will end up shooting yourself in the foot!
Your an unbelievable fool.

Im really not looking forward to KZ3.
Im sorry, but the jetpacks seem like a total crapfest.
It seems they have conformed to the masses, and decided that achieving Call of Duty reputation, is more important than being unique.
I didnt like the heavy controls, but only in MP they seemed WAY over the top, and ALOT more than in the SP, but over time i got used to them and started pwning just as much as normal, so it wasnt a problem in the end.
Jetpacks look pretty sweet to me.
Well, I didn't like the heaviness. I understood that it was part of the game, but given a choice I like to be able to feel nimble…..like a ninja…
For all COD is, KZ is it's own game, in it's own right regardless of the weighted controls. I liked the story (sans cursing), I loved the graphics, and gameplay. Some of the battles were truly epic.
Besides, didn't people complain that the controls were just laggy to give the appearance of weight? I can see where you could draw the correlation, however that wasn't my opinion.
