It's just more evidence that Metal Gear Solid: Rising is designed to bring in new fans rather than target the long-time followers of the franchise.
If you've never had the patience for the stealth aspect of the standard MGS titles, you might be intrigued by the fast hack 'n slash action that will be on full display in Rising . However, you might also be a little leery about the storyline; these games have always boasted insanely in-depth plot lines and because Raiden is the main character, you might think you'll be lost when playing Rising . Nah, don't worry about it. According to a GamePro interview with Rising director Mineshi Kimura and creative producer Shigenobu Matsuyama, the gamer will need no previous MGS knowledge to enjoy the new ambitious title. Kimura "insists that this title is about Raiden and Raiden alone," so you needn't concern yourself with much of the franchise's deep history. The bottom line is that Rising is a new breed of MGS; a game that should theoretically appeal to those who weren't necessarily interested in Kojima's masterful series before.
The veteran fans are none too happy about this but then again, it seems to be the way of the Japanese industry these days: in order to contend against the rising ('cough') West, they've decided to refine their approach.

Further proof story is no focus here. Another series slaughtered.
Indeed. Metal Gear is as much as story as it is anything else.
Gotta love what happens when the 360 is involved with certain games. /sarcasm
Metal Ninja Gear Gaiden confirmed.
That's a Shocker
don't care for rising no kojima no buy, peace walker is awesome though
Freaking idiots man. I hope they at least tie his story in with his actions from MGS2. And if Rising plays like MGS4, thats going to be some weird sword play…seriously. Could you imagine how clunky it would be if they don't change the controls and engine. And really, there might be people interested in Raiden, but his story has no importance to me and I love MGS.
Indeed again. It's one of the reasons I love MGS. The story and the evolution of the characters during the game.
Not trying to over-react here, but in my book that isn't taking care of the loyal fans.
I can't wait. The slicing of the watermelons was what clinched it for me. Swwwwweeet!
Metal Gear Gallagher confirmed.
Really, slicing watermelons? How long is that going to be interesting? A game where the most interesting aspect is that you can cut stuff? I think it would be a lot of fun for a very very short period of time and then it will just get old and boring.
Kraygen, I guess my comment didn't reak of sarcasm enough?
Hook, line and sinker
Good one MyWorstNightmar
Metal Gear: Cooking Mama
My bad, I hadn't slept in like 45 hours when I read that, maybe I shouldn't comment when I can barely read. lol
LOL! The perfect MGS for the Xbot.
too bad their console couldn't handle mgs4. now they get a watered down version.
XBOX360. The Cuisinart of the gaming industry. It slices! It dices! "Yes! But can it core a apple?".
"It slices, it dices…"
But you gotta change the blades every other time you use it.
we'l wait and see how the game turns out.
The trailer looked rather good. Plus i love Raiden
So i am still very inetersted in the game.
this game looks good so far, but we all know mgs4 will always wear the crown.
Its a sheep in wolfs clothing.
I like Hack-n-Slash games, they are fun when you want to just button mash and kill. I wouldn't mind giving the game a shot if it were to come out and it be cheap. Of course, I'd be getting the PS3 version. But who cares anyway, right? The 360 has brought the game down. It's probably going to be amazingly short…
same picture
same opinion
what are the odds?
I get the distinct feeling this will be a mishmash of hack n slash and sneaking around, the result being a game that is neither.
My optimism for this game just sky plummeted. What a let down this game will be with out the mind bending story content I've come to love with MGSs. I was never once bored with one second of MGS cutscenes
*Urge to sneak away: Rising*
-sf out
Whatever happened to bridging the gap between MGS2 and MGS4? It better have a story. The spoke about it in passing on MGS4 about what happened to him. If they do continue the series how would that be possible?
Just finished Peace Walker. Nothing I say will do the game enough justice. Nothing but Incredible.
I read it's like Monster Hunter. Any truth in that?
That's more reason for them NOT to put the "Metal Gear Solid" on the title of this game. They're obviously just using it to make this game sell. I'm still on the fence on this one, leaning towards not getting it.
Actually this might be a benefit for this game. Since kojima isn't working on it, they might have just screwed the story up and left long time fans wondering who the crap wrote the story.
well I beat MGS2 long before I beat MGS and I still enjoyed the hell out of it, though I did enjoy it alot more after beating MGS and playing through again
So no diarrhea jokes then?
I don't think people should be giving up on the series just yet. They didn't say there was going to be no story, just that it focused more on Raiden. And it may have shyed away from the stealth aspect, but maybe not entirely. Basically I think this might be a bit of a quick decision to give up on the series before more trailers, game-play, and info on the story is released.
Did Raiden have brown eyes in MGS2? I remember him having white-blue eyes in MGS4. I don't remember an eye-patch either.
Maybe it's from when he was turned into the cyborg ninja.
Well technically….MGS Rising is like Law and Order SVU and CSI New York Is….A diffrent kind of series so if Konima decides to change stuff then…Its Acceptable since its a new series under the MGS Franchise…Just not a total 180 redo…Hack and Slash does make sence since Raiden turn to Ninja…But the story better not drop its quality by a lot….
So wait, are we going to see Raiden save Sunny, or not? I can understand the team building Rising from scratch to appeal to new fans, doesn't mean I'll like it though.
I actually just had a really good idea. Imagine if alongside the main game they have a sideshow alley type thing. In it you fight all sorts of enemies, only instead of playing like the main game, it plays like Heavy Rain. Pushing certain button slashes certain parts of the enemy off, and at the same time you have dodge prompts and needing to move as well. I think that'd be cool.
Peace.
No reason required to play it aswell as a MGS fan. SNAP
Not buying day one that's for sure, after hearing that story just isn't important to them. Most likely not at all aswell. Thought as much when the first footage we saw it only involved raiden running around cutting things.
so what?
its a new IP a new series so there starting fresh with it whats wrong with that?
it will have tie ins with previous MGS games obviously, though you dont need to have played them to understand the story thats a good thing!
god, and you say im MR negative!
So it's not canon? funny I thought that it was… new "series" or not.
i hate how everyone here is going on about it just because its on 360 aswell boo hoo……y should that matter from the trailer it still look brilliant
Couldn't agree more godslim! If this was PS3 exclusive all these posters would be creaming their pants, and quite rightly because this game looks awesome!
But because it's multi platform apparently it's the worst game any of these people have set eyes on.
Don't you just love fanboys…
yeh i just think its pretty stupid the way people hate on multiplat games
Actually a lot feel negative towards it because of it looking like a poor excuse of a MGS game, 360 or not. With the developers themselves saying that story is not a central focus or worry. Multiplat or not, it doesnt deserve to have the title MGS on it.
What did you expected from a spin off ???
I couldn't care less how the story does or does not connect with the series. If it is a legit-ly good game, then it is worth getting. That said I really doubt that this'll be a piss-poor Metal Gear game simply because Kojima isn't at the helm for this one. Metal Gear is a respectable series and I think that any who work on a Metal Gear title, will do their best to make the game just as respectable.

This looks alright, but unless it has the same STELLAR story telling as MGS4, i wont invest. thats what MGS means to mean.
