We follow David Jaffe's Twitter page on our own Twitter account, and we notice when he gets all Tweet-happy.
It's not always about game-related stuff, obviously, but the Twisted Metal details have really been flying lately. To start with, he gives us a vague idea of how far along the game is in development, as it seems there are still features yet to be added. For instance, vehicles will "toss debris and flip cars when a big ram occurs" but that's not part of the gameplay at this time. Furthermore, he answers a question some of you have asked before, regarding the prospect of new characters/vehicles after the game has launched. Jaffe does confirm this will happen, although he didn't specify the delivery method (i.e., premium DLC, free patch, etc.). Other pieces of info include being able to switch your vehicle after dying, the return of local multiplayer (you know how Jaffe likes the "sit on your couch with a friend and play" idea), and a total of 16 characters with 16 different vehicles.
Oh, and although we thought there would be only two Factions, there will actually be four: we knew about the Clowns (Sweet Tooth clan) and the Dolls (Dollface followers), but there will also be the Skulls (Grimm followers) and the Holy Men (Preacher sect). The more we hear about Twisted Metal , the more excited we become and we can't wait to see it in action. Give us that beta!

Guys, I have a confession to make: I've never played a TM game before. I'm not going well with that fourth group, but this seems like a great place to start.
Twisted Metal 2 is a great place to start if you don't mind PS1 graphics.
@ultimate
dude u really missed out big. TM2 or black are the greatest games of all time, try any of them and u'll be hocked.
@jawknee
now ur scaring me 3 for 3!!!!! that's just freaky .lol
Black was damn near artistic.
I never played Black. I think it came out when i was over my PS2 and playing all the GameCube games i could.
You don't know what you are missing Jawk.
AS soon as Sony offers it in redone HD glory, ill be all over it. 😉
never played twisted metal either but they have got me interested as for black if you mean that game by Ea on ps2 i tried from friend for all of 20 mins but gave up because i was way too annoyed with its glitches
i went to shoot through a window and my guy caught the wall running shot forward into open territory and i tried to hide got stuck in a wall and was shot to death! lol not a good impression imo
Can't wait for this. Been playing Twisted Metal 2 on my PSP for months. Great times.
Might as well get the Wii Ben. SMG2 is tons more fun than reading Jaffe's tweets.
Looks like I'm gonna join the Dolls, as I always pick Darkside.
the question is do u have the body for it.lol
lol yeah 😀
I'll probably go with theeeeeeee preeeeeachers *preacher voice*
My judgment will destroy all of you *evil laugh*
yeah the preacher from futurama" praise the looorddddah " lol
Awesome!
16 locations!
I was expecting more like 8-10
Wow can't wait
Can't wait to see who they bring back besides the known characters (Sweet Tooth, Grimm, Doll, etc.)
16 locations? Unless you got the info from somewhere else, Ben said 16 characters and 16 vehicles not locations. Sorry!
But I do hope we get that many or even more! ;p *Greedy*
*cough*
I guess that's what I wanted to read lol…
Yeah hopefully 15-20
But realistically probably 6-8 🙁
@ crudii
u had to burst his bubble didn't u.lol
haha..He would've been utterly bummed out if he realised too late..Also he's a big boy..I'm sure he'll get over it! :p
If I was into this game I'd have to be a Wicked Clown, being a Juggalo and all.
I am really interested in this game, but I know that I won't play it all that often. It just isn't one of those genre's I play constantly. I'd pick it up every now and then.
So even tho I know it's probably going to be the best vehicle combat game ever, I'll be waiting for a price drop.
yeah, totally a niche once in awhile game.
"Once in a while?"
Well, I'll tell you right now that these kinds of games (fighters, racing combat, sports, etc.) can actually rack up more hours than Final Fantasy games.
I have over 200+ hours playing Street Fighter IV, probably 80+ with Super SFIV.
I don't call that once in a while
I call you a rarity Scarecrow, most people are done with their fighting games after a very short while and come back now and again with friends over for a match.
i'm with scarecrow on that one, i love tm and fighters so freacking much. can't w8 for the new DOA if there is one

I'd love a new DOA too, but if I put in more than RPG style hours into it it would be to watch all the bounce. Aw screw it, just give us another DOA Volleyball.
BlazBlue Continuum Shift July 27th! I'm sharpening my claws in anticipation, meow! ^-^
Scarecrow
I know some ppl are like you and spend hours and hours on fighters, racers, and other games like that, but I am not one of them, it's just not the style of game that I play on a regular basis. I'll play my rpg's multiple times over 100 hours each play through.
Fighters and the like I always play for about 20 hours when I first get it, basically I beat the story or all the challenges or whatever, then I put it down and will only play it a few times a year.
This is however why I don't sell my games, I will play them for forever, but I still just don't dedicate time to these types of games, just not me.
i remeber playing twisted metal on my ps1 it was a really good game cant wait for it to come out on ps3
best news yet grimm has his own faction, now if only they could give one to warthog as well
Still not sure about this one.
my hubby is super excited for this game, he loves all the twisted metal games I've never played any of them. BTW ben that pic of the clown scares the Sh*t out of me LOL I hate clowns, can u kill clowns in this game if so I'll play it.
That's Sweet Tooth, he's a serial killer clown that drives an ice cream truck and survived the electric chair. I'm gonna be on his side. 🙂
same, i'm terrified of clowns, god damn u wayne gacy
How much you want to bet that if they announce that beta access is for Plus members only the number of subscribers will skyrocket
sounds sik, I'd def. like to see a beta. Maybe even plus exclusive?
david said theres probably not going to be a beta which is a little disappointing.
anyway i cant wait till this comes out, its about bloody time we get a proper car combat game!
the only game with the same style as TM was the original full auto on the 360, propper open world game no track BS like BLUR or MNR.
also who said a car combat game has to be kart styled?
i cant believe we have not had more TM knockoffs, i mean it is one of the funnest genres and at the same time one of the most deserted!
that is one thing i cant understand about developers these days, when releasing a game your suppose to check the market, see where theres a dry patch.
not follow the sheep into the pond and drown yourself!
there is a billion shooters out there, so we get a billion more!
there are very few car combat games out there, so we get less.
go figure!
I'm not to sure, but TM had a very very rough start. So, not much incentive to copy it. But then Vigilante 8 hit the market and that tanked. I wanna say there was another but i'm not even 15% sure of that. TM was a great series but I do kinda wonder what they could have been had they had competition.
never played that, but im sure it tanked because it was a poor game not because of people not wanting it.
there is plenty of interest out there for this type of game, i mean which other game lets you drive around in a sandbox styled GTA world blowing up cars?
closest game i can think of is the original full auto battlelines back on the 360.
if done well a clone of twisted metal could sell really, really well!
if done well obviously, if done poorly well than anything like that will sell poorly, unless its got a brand name like halo or COD.
those could be done as poorly as naughty bear and they would still sell through the roof!
in all honesty, car combat doesn't interest me at all… i played twisted metal black ages ago, i rented it and took it back a few days later… it was, mediocre IMO…
there's something about it that i can't put my finger on… but either way, i hope it enjoys great success on the PS3 and gives more gamers a reason to get a PS3… it's just not my bag, baby…
