Ben-DutkaEvery once in a while, the rumors prove true. …and this time, Sony one-upped Microsoft in the race to add the popular Hulu service.
Today, Hulu has announced a limited launch of Hulu Plus, "an ad-supported, premium subscription service" that will cost $9.99 per month and give you access to high-definition TV shows from NBC, ABC and Fox. This new service will be available on several different platforms, including PC, iPad, iPhone, some Samsung Blu-Ray players and yes, the PlayStation 3. Right now, this is only being offered to certain Hulu members who have received an invitation; if you'd like to request said invitation, feel free to do so . If you don't get an invite, you can still download a Hulu Plus app on the iPad, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4; this app will boast a "limited number of episodes" but at least you'll be able to check it out. Hulu confirms that the new service "will launch broadly in the coming months;" this includes the Xbox 360 "in early 2011." Hulu Plus is a fully loaded service featuring television programs from over 100 current providers, and that includes every episode from current seasons of 45 programs on the three aforementioned stations.
You can watch them in 720p high-definition glory, or you can choose to downgrade them "in low-bandwidth scenarios." If this is your bag and you're not into the handheld electronic craze, perhaps you'd feel more comfortable utilizing the PS3 as your preferred Hulu Plus platform.
