Ben-DutkaIf you're gearing up for PlayStation Plus, slated to release this week, here's your official announcement.
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced that system software update (v3.40) will be available for the PlayStation 3 "soon;" it will add the PlayStation Plus premium PSN service, along with "enhancements to the connection between users' PlayStation Network and Facebook accounts." Also, don't forget to be on the lookout for update 6.30 for your PSP, which will launch simultaneously with the PS3's 3.40 (you'll want Plus benefits on both platforms, right?). The following is what you can expect from these updates:
PlayStation®Plus: A new subscription service package on PlayStation®Network, PlayStation Plus offers gamers exclusive services and content on June 29, 2010, worldwide. PlayStation Network users will be able to purchase membership* to PlayStation Plus, providing members with new options to enhance their gaming experience and enable them to gain a special set of features and content. All PlayStation Network users will continue to have free access to its unmatched and expanding suite of new and exclusive content, services and community focused tools – including online game play – while PlayStation Plus subscribers will gain access to an exclusive and expanding set of evolving features, content and functionality.
Photo Gallery: A new network based photo sharing feature is now available on the Photo Gallery. The enhancement allows PS3 users to upload, browse and comment on photos on sites such as Facebook and Picasa Web Album. PS3 users can also opt to share their photos between their PlayStation Network friends.
Video Editor & Uploader: Video Editor and Uploader is a new function found on the XrossMediaBar (XMB), which enables users to edit, save and upload video files stored on the PS3 system to sites such as Facebook or YouTube.
Five Star Rating Support: Users can rate PlayStation Store content they have purchased with one to five star ratings.
Power Save Settings: The default setting for PS3 System Auto-Off will be set at two hours, providing users with additional power save options and further improving power save features on the PS3 system.
The new PSN application will be made available on Facebook, too, which means you can display all your Network gains and achievements on your Facebook page. You can also network with PSN friends and Facebook contacts, so for all you virtual social-philes, this is for you. Check it out at Sony's Facebook page .

I'm going to wait until July 1 as I want to see what PSN will look like now that Canadians can get on-demand movies and T.V.
How does one buy PS Plus? Do you buy a card like you do for Xbox Live Gold or do you have to use a credit card?
You can buy a prepaid card [PSN Card] at a store and that'll work as well.
Hey Ben… Do you kno what r the free games Sony are gonna give out with PS+ for this month?
@brighat I think eventually they'll have cards but for now i'm pretty sure your gonna have to use your credit card
Will most likely become a member before the end of the week. As I mentioned before even a moderate use of the PSN would make the $50 more than worth it.
