Many veteran role-playing fans really miss the old Squaresoft. But the good news is that you can get your old-school Square fix on the PSN in any number of ways.
Not only can you nab any Final Fantasy release on the original PlayStation, but there are several other gems available as downloadable PS1 classics on the Network. Another hit this week – Threads of Fate – and according to Andriasang citing the Japanese Twitter page for producer Shinji Hashimoto, Legend of Mana is next on the list. Released back in 1999, the game blended real-time combat with a unique form of world exploration (and creation), and although some Secret of Mana fans weren't necessarily thrilled, the game's appeal was undeniable. Using all hand-drawn artistry, it remains one of the most impressive visual accomplishments from any generation. It really is a must-play for RPG fans of a time long past, especially if you didn't get a chance to see it in action when it first released; it really was amazingly attractive.
We don't have an estimated release date but we're satisfied with "soon." So what other RPGs should be released to the PSN? How's about Star Ocean: The 2nd Story ? It was an Enix title, was it not? …or is that one already on the PSN?
Never played Threads, not sure if I would be into it or not. I did get Suikoden, but I much preferred Suikoden II, so PSN should put that up asap. And somebody at Konomi or Hudson with a brain needs to get to work on Suikoden VI while they are at it!
I used to agree with you, until I realized that if Suikoden VI ever did get made, it wouldn't have a chance in hell of being turn-based, and then I wouldn't care at all.
Either that, or it WILL be turn-based and be a DS exclusive.
You have to believe man, Suikoden VI, classic 6 character turn based action. Believe it.
Naruto's voice came in my head when I read "believe it." If that was your intentions.. it worked
It'll work Logamus 🙂
Like World, I never played Threads. I'm very interested in them putting Suikoden II up. That was one of my favorite ps1 games.
Threads of Fate is a must get
I'm ashamed I never got to play it, except the demo. But I know it's a great game. Will get it.
Legend of Mana….
You know, it's the kind of game which is good if you've got a lot of time on your hands.
But man, that game….is just…..kinda boring :X Can really get to your nerves after a while too. Beautiful game though, but kinda weird…
Legend of Mana was a bit slow and boring but I still loved it, but what would turn me on my ear is if they somehow released Secret of Mana on the PSN. That is one of my all time favourite RPGs, up there with FFVII (yeah I said it) and Super Mario RPG.
Yeah, LOM had some cool weapons

Never played Threads of Fate, but I remember noticing the ads for it when it came out way back in the day. Legend of Mana on the otherhand, loved it! Only played a little bit of it (maybe 10 hours or so) and I would LOVE to play that on my psp. I'd probably end up picking up Threads of Fate as well considerng how lacking the PS1 collection is. I played the second Star Ocean Ben, didn't really enjoy it all that much, but I think I did put a lot of hours into that game, if I remember right, wasn't it incredibly difficult? Hmm …been a long time, but no it is not on the store already.
If SE and Sony would put up Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Einhander, Chrono Cross, Anthology or Chronicles I would be so very happy, that's why I bought my psp 3 years ago afterall, for the ps1 classics, and all I've played are FF7 and lots of FF8.
Threads of Fate is a fantastic game, and sadly not as well known as most of Squaresoft's other PS1 endeavors.
I suggest to all that haven't played it and are remotely interested, to give it a try.
Hellz yea. I Love LOM!!!

I have never even heard of either of these games, so hearing of 2 squaresoft games coming to psn is exciting to me since I missed all of them.
Please keep us up to date on these because I'm really excited. I'm playing ff9 right now for the first time and loving it.
I wonder, if I cut the Enix out of Square with this sword would the "soft" grow back?
IDK, SE has become a snake of a company so i'm sure SOMETHING would grow back. But hey, how much worse could it get. lol, go ahead and get Raiden on their ass, but don't be so whiny and feminine about it. oh, and don't somehow pick up a subtle english accent along the way.
haha, classic. Maybe he spent too much time in England like Madonna. If I still had my Buster Sword I'd bring that.
Well if you're gonna pass through Europe why not just pick one up in Germany?
Wasn't Star Ocean 1 and 2 released as UMDs?
yeah, I've never played one but I just ordered the first one off amazon this week for $12. Video game deal of the day finally pays off, been wanting to try this series and now I can start from the beginning.
Cmon VAGRANT STORY (I Never played all of it), and brave fencer musashi (Currently trying to beat)
lol same!
I mean after a while I was "seriously this game hss no direction or anything?" 🙁
I was way younger so I probably wasn't paying attention and connecting the dots. But still… they needed a better mission system.
Both Star Oceans were updated and released as UMDs. I would still like to see Parasite Eve 1&2 and Vagrant Story released on PSN.
Agreed with Sarakek… Parasite Eve 3 is about to come out soon on PSP so Parasite 1 and 2 should be released on PSN or remade for ppl who haven't played them (or is that gonna take 10 years to do like FFVII)*sigh*… But I have played both Threads and LOM, both are worthy of purchase for any JRPG fanatic

I am a HUGE Secret of Mana fan, but can't say that the transition to Legend of Mana was a total turn-off. It lost a lot of aspects that made it worthy of the series, but truly wasn't part of that series, IMO. I'm definitely looking forward to revisiting this game once again! Maybe itll be part of a PSN+ pick! 😀
Threads of Fate was fun! It wasn't anything to write home about, IMO, but it I didn't walk away from it. The only downfall to seeing these games become part of an ever-growing PSN hit-list is that it seems the trend is to simply reissue the games rather than do anything worth the coin, other than the gameplay itself.
My problem is getting over the fact that these games brutally pixelated and "stretched" on my 52" 16:9 tv. Shrinking the res is a bit aggrivating as it makes it harder for me to read a lot of what these games had – captions.
Oh well, something's better than twiddlin' thumbs!
I really wanna see Tomba! in the PSN.
Dude!
This! 1000 times this!
I never got to play this so am well excited for. Games enix should easily release:
*PARASITE EVE SERIES
*FRONT MISSION COLLECTION
*EINHANDER
*EIRGH– something
Like to add that the Japanese PSN account has a SQUARESOFT section & a huge SQUARESOFT PS1CLASSICS list
They should give Squaresoft their own section on the PSN.
Games/Video/Squaresoft
Xenogears and Chrono Cross!
Here here!
Why do I have a feeling this is an "inside job?"
*Lands on knees and begins to cry tears of joy!*
As you can notice, my avatar is Threads of Fate. It is my all-time favorite game! I am happy to see this.
Legend of Mana had some sick tunes!
I would love Star Ocean: 2nd Story I have it in disc form but to have it in digital form is something I'd love. Chrono Cross needs to happen too.
Unfortunately I just found out this is only on the Japan PSN.
