Rumor: Hulu Headed To The PSN

Although it was first rumored to involve Microsoft, it appears now that Sony might steal the limelight.

We had heard whispers about Hulu teaming up with the Xbox Live service but suddenly, a report from Bloomberg suggests that Sony might announce an agreement with the online TV company as early as next week. According to "two people with knowledge of the talks," the PlayStation 3 will receive the benefit of Hulu soon; those who have signed up for the PlayStation Network will have access, thereby giving them a chance to download current prime-time TV shows from major networks like NBC, ABC, and Fox. This probably doesn't mean that Hulu has switched teams, but more likely that they wish to expand by placing their popular service at the disposal of both PS3 and 360 owners. Neither Patrick Seybold for the PSN or Christina Lee for Hulu would comment on the matter, which is usually a good sign from a journalist's standpoint. For what may be around $10/month, you could get Hulu along with all the other goodies on the Network and the Marketplace…no word on if it might be worked into the freshly revealed PlayStation Plus premium service.

At some point, we'll have to ask ourselves the obvious question: do we really need anything else in our entertainment centers besides video game consoles? Consoles that do so much more than just play games?

i thought christina lee worked for psn?

on the psblog for us they have no mention of free lbp. all they talk about is 3 months free.

about ps+ as posted by ps blog us:

Game updates and demos will also automatically install and the next time you turn on your PS3 you will see a brief on-screen message letting you know what has been downloaded and updated.

Here are some more answers to frequently asked questions from the last blog post:

Cross-game voice chat is a feature we know our passionate user base has asked for and we’ll continue to look at as a viable offering for the PlayStation Network.

i posted this earlier in another post:

Hermen Hulst from Guerrilla games will be demoing Killzone 3 on late night with jimmy fallon. im not here to promote that idiot, just wanted everyone to know if you wanted to see it. i guess he played need for speed last night and sucked at it. i doubt he will be very good at this game but whatever. why do stupid people get to be so lucky?

Well, that sucks, but three months free is three months free. Not really as good as a downloadable LBP though.

This was all the rage awhile ago and Hulu must have got smart because when i finally tried it out, i wouldn't work with the PS3 browser anymore.

@Jawknee

Yea they wrote on their website or something that they weren't allowing ps3 to connect anymore. Every work around people found hulu blocked. I used to use it to catch up on shows since I could never watch them but oh well.

@Frylock

That's the business. I think fallon is in the casual crowd. He was saying how much of a hardcore gamer he was but that's just a lie. I can't really say I'm a big fan of those need for speed games. They were fun but they are lacking a lot now! Criterion spoiled me with burnout paradise. Now that's awesome!

@frylock

Sure will. I wish I would have synced some of my trophies before. I rarely if ever platinum any games. That was the 1st game I got. My ps3 screwed up and lost my whole progress! 🙁 I ended buying the time savers pack from the psn when it became available.

Not true about Jimmy. I'm friends with Jimmy's best friend — Jimmy's best friend and I worked together before he left to join Jimmy's writing staff — and I know Jimmy is pretty hard core, at least he was before he got married (marriage changes a lot, believe me). Jimmy bought his PS3, 360, and Wii all at launch… the same with his PS2, etc…

Wait why would it cost us $10 a month to watch hulu on ps3 when it's free on your computer. Or has hulu changed since the last time I used it?

I believe that Hulu wants to go commercial.

Microsoft are suffering the effects of a double edged sword. Early on when they had a high numerical superiority in the US they could convince content providers to allow exclusive rights contracts. But now those content providers know that they are effectively excluding at least half of the HD gaming market by doing so.

Same thing with games, since their first party stuff is tiny and they had to pay for third party exclusives, their ability to create good first party games still sucks and the revenue from going multiplat is more than MS wants to shell out for exclusive third party titles. Painted themselves into a corner.

$10 bucks a month for the benefits of Hulu on a PS3 is a ripoff if you ask me. I can turn on hulu any time i want on my laptop and watch all the family guy episodes i want FO FREE

Enjoy it while you still can. Us PC users are going to be charged $10 a month also in the future. It's been delayed for now.

wow sony are really going all out with the media hub thing lately.
i really wish they would stop wasting their time and money though, i mean if i want to watch TV thats what i have foxtell and the net for.
i bought my ps3 for games and nothing but games.
they could of put all the time and money used to get netflix, facebook and twitter to more productive things like saving their London studio!
its no wonder there bleeding money when they keep pissing it away like this!!!!!!!!!!
sony, can we PLEASE go back to the good old ps2 days where a gaming console was just that a device to play games on.
NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS!

Then use your ps3 for games and nothing but games? There are quite a ton of games out that you can play and turn your psn off and do nothing but game. You don't have to get this OPTIONAL add-on, it wouldn't effect you whatsoever, but it does for all the people, like me, who use the ps3 as a multi-media device as well as a gaming console.

yous still dont get the point do you?
these things sonys adding are not coming for free, they dont just end up on sonys door step delivered by the stalk.
they have to spend money and research into these things, as ive said a million times that money and time would be better spent on fixing their internal studios.
if a dams leaking you fix the cracks you dont go and add more water to it!

They didn't spend money. The companies opted to join them. Netflix wanted to join microsoft so they did. They didn't waste any extra money doing so. Same with this. Why pay for something if your gonna get charged for it. Sony isn't losing any extra money doing so.

I wonder if this would only be available in the US just as hulu is now. We canadians may get the shaft again.

Hey, it took forever, but at least canada is FINALLY getting the psn video service at least, haha, so maybe you can look forward to a faster chance at getting hulu then?

With PSN On Demand (what I call it) coming on Canada Day, I am confident we'll soon see Hulu available here.

This is cheaper than $10 a month…$29.99 first year and $19.99 every year after. This has been around for a while for all who didn't know about it. And it works great.

How can anyone think Xbox Live is better? Not that Hulu makes a huge difference or anything. It's just one more reason on why people should be buying a PS3.

Wait, so we are paying $10 dollars a month for something that is normally FREE!?!?!?!?! WTF

I use iPlayer all the time on my PS3, BBC were in talks to have it also on the 360 but Microsoft would only allow Gold members access so xbox and would not move from that standpoint so it never got it due to the BBC not discriminating against people and good for them.
