When the PlayStation 3 first launched, Sony said their machine was filet mignon while anything else was a McDonald's hamburger.
Now, a developer is making a similar comparison. Platinum Games, the team responsible for the upcoming Vanquish , has made some comments on the PS3/360 comparison, and they're not likely to go over well with Microsoft fans. In speaking to VG247 at E3, Platinum boss Atsushi Inaba said the PS3's architecture provides a designer with more power while the 360 gives a developer "more versatility." Said Inaba:
"The PS3 is kind of like a sports car that’s very high-performance and specific in its usage, whereas the 360 is more like a car that everybody’s driving. It doesn’t have the same range as a sports car, but it has more versatility."
Remember, Platinum used the Xbox 360 as the lead development platform for Bayonetta and consequently, PS3 owners suffered an inferior port. Now, the same team is using Sony's console as the lead machine for Vanquish , which is a fast-paced, third-person shooter with plenty of snazzy appeal . Inaba went on to say the process is about "adapting your game to those two sorts of different frameworks and this time, the two experiences – on PS3 and 360 – will be exactly the same. Well, the comments have been made so there's no going back; we wonder if other developers feel the same way.
We see the analogy this way- a sports car is preferable, but it's not something for the snow, and it's usually no fun for grocery shopping. But for just plain driving …it excels.

Stig, I've seen online that it is coming to Xbox and also PC. As a rule, I never trust the internet, but I've seen it multiple places, and I don't believe Hello Games has ever said it will only be on the PSN.
Im sure when I was on the store earlier it said that it was a PSN exclusive, I could be confusing it with another game thats been released recently.
Update: Just checked and it is indeed exclusive to PSN

The Stig is correct. It does say PSN exclusive on the purchase page.
Playstation Netword Exlusive.
Bah crap, i tried to repost but alas, i was too late.
So if that is true, am I wrong to be happy about that? HA! Sorry for Xbots that don't get to enjoy this great game. Well, I hope these 4 guys that made this game get plenty of dough from Sony to keep this exclusive then. Can't wait to see what they come up with next.
What's even the point of leading with the ps3 if you're still going to gimp it by making it equal to the 360 version.
I really don't care what platform you lead on, the ps3 version should always be better because the ps3 is simply a better machine.
As for vanquish, it looks like a third person halo with a cover system. Not for me really, I am becoming more and more disappointed by devs who continually downgrade my games simply to please the 360 fanboys.
I personally hope this is "exactly the same" the way SE said FFXIII was on the ps3 and 360. If so we can expect a much prettier version at the very least.
Why does (almost) everyone instantly assume negativity when they read identical versions? I mean, yes I suppose it makes sense given that the best of the ps3 is far superior to the best of 360, but didn't S-E say the same about FFXIII, and look how that turned out?
As for Platinum's analogy, I don't like it. What do they mean by saying that it has more versatility? Do they mean that there is a greater variety of games that can be developed on it, because looking at the library, untrue. Do they mean that it is easier to develop on? Well that may be true, but that doesn't necessarily make it the more versatile device. I want clarification here guys.
Are they saying that the 360 is a media server while the ps3 is a games machine, because that ain't true either. I give up. Devs are delusional.
So far as Vanquish is concerned, a super-fast shooter doesn't really appeal to me. That phrase alone makes it seem as though its going to have serious control issues in terms of accuracy. But as always I reserve judgement until I hear more info that gets me excited, or I read some great previews and reviews.
@ Douchebaguette,
It's a game developed by the Japanese. Surely you've come to expect some seriously facepalm-worthy dialogue by now.
Peace all.
Yeah, I was kind of excited about this a couple months ago, but at that time I was picturing something like Dead Space except more action oriented and without the horror aspect. After seeing the gameplay demo, it's starting to look like a twitch gamer's wet dream. I dunno, it might be good, but my enthusiasm for it is rather low at this point.
What they are saying describes the architectures quite well actually. The 360 features a CPU with three double issue general purpose CPU cores. The PS3 on the other hand has a CPU with 1 dual issue general purpose CPU core and 7 cores that are specifically designed for high speed media tasks and floating point math.
I would argue with anyone that says that the cell architecture is less flexible than the Xenon. It's a matter of how you approach the task. The Xenon is a simpler architecture but no more versatile than Cell.
Maybe they learned the lesson after the inferior ps3 version of bayonetta outsold the x360 counterpart.
And it could have sold more if many weren't turned off by the inferior product.
I don't want this game.
Nor do I, however, I reserve the right to change my mind at a moments notice. Tis a feminine quality to be sure.
Bayonaise was poop, can't see this being much better.
Mikami is behind this. He didn't make Bayonaise.
@WorldEndsWithMe
I'll bet a lot of people said the same thing about DMC3 after DMC2 didn't they. Besides, just because a company screwed up once doesn't mean they'll be consistent about making the same mistakes. 😛
except that I'd say the ps3 does better in the versatility department, with more capabilities such as media, internet, etc.
I believe GT5 will be the game that blows everything that the 360 has ever made PEIOD ! 😛
Uncharted 2 and God of War III, already did that. Not to mention Killzone 2.
I suppose they can say that the PS3 is like a Aston Martin Vanquish
Nice one.
Some good info for those who want a logical unbiased analysis of the design strengths and weaknesses between the PS3 and 360
These read easy enough for those who don't know much about the idiosyncrasies of game design.

Sometimes I sense an overly black & white perspective between the two console architectures and hopefully those who take the time to read into a few of these may be enlightened by what they find. I know I have been.
… it's also cool to know that the Digital Foundry (and myself) agrees that GoW3 and Uncharted 2 are the cream of the crop in visual prowess this console gen.
HAAAAAA,
As if MS didn't already have a good enough reason to keep repeatedly kicking themselves in their own butts with their brand spanking new (but antiquated) 360 Squat……..
Blu-ray doubles storage capacity

idk if i can agree with that but if anything all developers should always use the ps3 as the lead developing console
I'd take high performance sports cars over a Honda Civic anyway.
I'd take high performance sports cars over a Honda Civic anyway.
PG love blowing their own horn dont they?
im not convinced on vanquish i mean it just looks like the other billion and one shooters out there!
though i finally caved in and traded in my PSP since i have not used it in like 6 months and bought a wii.
playing mad world last night i cant believe of some of the creativity in the game.
i mean you rip a pole out of the ground, slam it through a guys head, pick up a trash bin, slam it over his head, than pick him up and slam him on a spike sticking out of the ground going in his a$$ and out his head!
i mean who the ^%$# thinks of these kinds of things?
i cant believe this did not get banned!
let me get this straight.
ripping a pole out of the ground, slam it through a guys head, pick up a trash bin, slam it over his head, than pick him up and slam him on a spike sticking out of the ground going in his a$$ and out his head is ok for a MA rated game, but blowing off a zombies head with a shotgun is not??????????????????????????
its official, the OFLC is corrupt!
looks like valve did not offer them enough incentive under the table if you know what i mean!
I look at the PS3 as a sports car with the versatility of family car.
It has the performance, yet does more then any other out there.
PG was only half right.
I'm glad I'm not shelling out my money to Microsoft's s***fixmebox.
