Ever since the Premium cars for Gran Turismo 5 were revealed, there has been much confusion concerning the status of non-Premium vehicles.
Specifically, whether or not it will only be the 200 Premium cars that get an in-cockpit view. The "special" cars will feature an insane amount of detail, right down to seams in the chair fabric and the smallest dashboard instrumentation; the "Standard" cars will also have interiors, just not as meticulously designed. You may have heard that the standard cars will simply be remodeled versions of cars from GT4, but Polyphony wants to remind you that they're using the textures and physics the other cars have. Essentially, the models are being reused but it's hardly a copy-and-paste job. And here's the quote that clarifies the in-cockpit view, from IGameReport :
Standard cars do indeed have a cockpit/dashboard view, just not nearly as detailed as the premium cars. The existing cars are not just being copied; they are all being generated properly to create authentic experiences from car to car."
I think what people were starting to think was that the Premium cars would be the only ones worthy of GT5, while most of the cars were just cropped out of GT4 and plopped into the new installment…as if that makes any sense whatsoever. But common sense is lacking these days, especially amongst those who wish to tear down a game they don't like, regardless of factual evidence. In short, there will be a difference between Premium and Standard but either way, it's going to be Gran Turismo 5 .

for as long as its taken to put this game out we should be able to count the number of threads used to stitch each seat in every car in the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For as long as you've been on Earth we should be able to see you actually accomplish something other than boohaha.
y u gotta be such a D-BAG????? and wtf is boohaha???

I don't care, just give me my GT5. I am ready for the track editor, the wife and my employer have been warned.
This game is going to be so freaking awesome!
can you say game of the year…………..
So I read it right. 😀 Yay! Also Ben its also going to have the rewind feature that Forza 3 has. I'm not too fond of that feature but at least we have something. Checked it out on a gametrailer forum specifically for GT5. It was in the pics.
PD may have deemed the rewind feature necessary since GT has damage now. A quick rewind would be tempting if I crash n burn in the last corner of 10 lap race 🙂
Could the dashboard be customized? Would be real funny if we can put those jiggly dogs on the dashboard 🙂
I'm really interested how many of the non-premium cars will actually be driven by players.
Sure, if you own a non-premium GT5 car in real life I can imagine taking its virtual GT5 counterpart for a joy ride.
But let's face it: there's no way any sane person (you know, students, and those with families and jobs) can afford to spend substantial amounts of time in every single GT5 car.
Heck, I can't even imagine to drive all of the 200 premium cars.
Still, the level of dedication at PD is awe-inspiring. I wish reviewers and, ultimately, PS3 owners will reward that dedication.
Would be funny, though, to see a game released in November snatching the GOTY-award ^^.

Speak for yourself, the standard car list will include ALOT of cars and many of those cars will be very special to alot of different people, they'll want to drive them.
Not ALL of our favorite cars will be in the premium category not that i mind and when i say my favorite cars, i have alot of favorite cars given my broad tastes.
I'll be driving ALOT of standard cars because at the end of the day the racing comes first and the standard dash is fine.
Heck, for all we know the cars in GT5 look even better than their real life counterparts :p
my question is Damage, are all cars going to have the same type of damage available?
and also are the cars customizable?
I've only heard rumors of this was hoping sum1 heard something else
last i heard the damage wasn't top notch, then i heard something about it being better and now i have no idea.
preordered my collector's edition yesterday.
man i really hope this game doesnt disappoint. i've only been hearing great things
Who thought this?
surely, surely after so much delay you should assume it wouldn't be a botch job on the cars. considering gt5 is a car game. if they released a botch job would them or us be at all happy.
no.
Goodday sir.
Whoever doubted this game's quality deserves punishment

With the negative brigade that came out against Heavy Rain. I think it'll only be the same for GT5. So much hate. If something isn't for u fine but geez, what's with all these people feeling like it's their personal mission to make people "see the light" of their lost ways of interests.
Y'know, I like the way that you are so selective about the news you give us. It's much better than having to scroll through sixteen articles to find one that I'm interested in.
Thank you. I always liked using the cockpit view in GTPSP, though I was going nuts at how ugly it was. Also, reskinned GT4 cars. That's just funny. Why would anyone in their right mind think that they would just use the exact same cars? But I thought they modelled all the cars of GT5P new; so am I wrong on that, or were they the ones updated to Premium, or I don't where I'm going with this. Over and and out.
Peace.
Punishment!
Seriously, don't like the site go somewhere else.
GT5 is the Game of the year.
None of the BS you're stating will even matter
I thought he was serious… who can tell.
@Scarecrow
What are you going on about man? He said he loves the way PSXE does news and he finds it funny that people would think GT5 cars are GT4 reskins…
I think I was serious, but don't trust me on that. It was about 4:30 in the morning and I wasn't looking forward to going to work.
Only Great news lately about gt5.
I wonder if they included a car editor in the game. It be nice to customize the exterior look of the cars, something like what forza allows to do.
ricer
It should only allow exterior modifications that serve a tactical/performance purpose.
I wouldn't mind race modification type processes like GT1-GT2 but it should be motorsport type of paintjobs not tuner.
Not a all but I understand that some people will use such a tool to rice out cars.
and put park benches on the back, lol
Already changed my standard gt5 pre-order for the collector edition, now the problem is to wait until Nov 2 aaaahhhh.
GT5=GOTY
This is the confirmation I was waiting for. This game will be epic!
Thanks for the confirmation, at least now those pessimists can be silent.
Can someone please tell me why is is that when the premium interiors were announced so very many people immediately assumed that because these 200 cars have a premium interior, the standard cars would have none? That's jumping to a negative conclusion with no evidence to support it. What's the deal here? Are people truly so pessimistic?
The 200 premium thing was announced way back in TGS '09. People were actually optimistic, not pessimistic since then. But according to the recent evidence, yes evidence, from multiple report in E3 '10, it didn't seem likely that standard would have cockpit view. I can link you to a twitter interview that talks about a black outlined interior like the PSP, and multiple sources that talks about Premium cars having cockpit view, but no where does it say anything about cockpit view in standard cars.
For this reason, it's better to expect the worst then to assume what's not there and be dissapointed later on. We all know if we expect the worst, it can only get better, and vice versa if we expect the best.
*edit
We knew about it since GC '09 actually. My bad

@Daus
Since GT5P was always billed as an interim version between GT4 and GT5 and GT4 has cockpit views, I have always felt that an in-car/cockpit point of view was a part of the standard feature set. I know you will probably point to some nugget or other to disprove my point of view.
Sorry, but you come across as very hard to please with respect to anything GT5 related. I can't see a reason to always take the negative viewpoint.
This is why Japanese devs simplify their games when releasing it in the US
US gamers act so dumb sometimes
They really show that they can't even understand SIMPLE information.
200 = super detailed, the rest detailed.
People need to start making this country look smart again.
Highlander, we all felt the same thing, including me.
It's not that I'm looking negatively at things, but people in every GT forum you can find on the internet were pissed. They were pissed not because it's been confirmed that no cockpit view will be in interior cars, but pissed because PD or Sony can't provide a simple, straight forward answer that can put this silly debate to rest. This is why you see sites like iGameReport going through all the trouble trying to find a straight answer, because it was never clear.
My view is simply to be safe in this assumption, because I don't want to go to a GT forum again and see the whole community blow up like they did the past couple of weeks. Trust me, it's not like me to be a negative viewpoint in a GT article, but you can only understand what I'm really trying to do here if you went through the things I did. I'd rather people hate me, than possibly hundreds of thousands of people hating on PD or Kaz if this subject weren't true.
@Scarecrow
Trust me man, it's not that simple. If it was that simple, all this silly turn of event wouldn't even exist to begin with.
@Daus,
OK, no problems. I'm sorry, I don't want an argument or anything. It's not really you or GT5 that has me irked as much as it is so many other things. I'm just tired of people in general always making the negative assumption unless there is crystal clear evidence to the contrary.

I can understand so that's okay if you think I'm being ridiculous with all this. It does seem like I'm being negative with recent GT news, so it can only make sense. No worries. Just understand that I do want the best for GT5, because I'm a really, really big fan of Kaz and PD. Can't imagine what it would be like without Kaz and Gran Turismo.
Oh, I understand, I've been a big fan since GT3 A-spec, and even went back and got GT2 for good measure. I'm just impatient to add GT5 to my GT2, GT3, GT4, GTHD, GT5P and GT-PSP collection…
I still don't get it, does that just mean the cars they brough over from GT4 didn't get a higher polygon count?
Don't forget that GT4 had a 1080i render mode, so the actual models for the cars in GT4 were already very high quality. I would imagine that they have increased the poly count for cars brought across from GT4, but there's nothing that says that none of these could be the 'premium cars' either.
They do. Premium cars are approximately 400k polys on average. Standard cars will be much less than that, possibly about 50k, but that's a lot compared to GT4's 4k.
I'm not too sure about the 50k part, but they are much less than premiums, but a lot more than GT4 for sure. Also note that the poly count are huge in premiums because of the detailed modeling inside, underside, extensive damage, headlights, and the rest of the exterior. They went overboard with them lol.
gotcha
@daus,
Where do those numbers come from?
I couldn't figure out why people thought their wouldn't be a cockpit view in the first place. Everything I read said that the premium cars would be more detailed, never said anything even remotely close to no cockpit view on regular cars.
There is a reason for it, but I guess only regular GT forumers knew what happened. It's hard to say, but something did happened. That's why this bit of news exist, and thank god for igamer for their effort.
Yes, it doesn't remotely say no cockpit, but it also doesn't say generic cockpit in standard cars either. It's something that simply wasn't clear and caused a lot of fuss.
This game is going to be so full of crap that I'm going to buy it day one. Sure I'll hate it as I'm earning my licenses and earning cars. Don't mind me being angry as I'm putting in hours upon hours into this mess of a game because of all of the features contained. Why are you screwing over the fans by putting so much into this game? Why do we need so many things in here that will keep us coming back for more? Why have you done this? Why?
Indeed. Getting the licenses will be torture. But worth it.
This whole issue of cockpit views is an embarrassment to GTPlanet in my book. So many people there act like their very lives depended on GT5. So much to the point, it's almost laughable.
It's a shame really. I visit GTPlanet as much a PSX and I really look forward to what Jordan posts in the news section.
