It was a no-show at E3 this year but new information is creeping to the surface, and the last update we heard was that we can expect a full unveiling at the Tokyo Game Show this fall.
In the meantime, various pieces of new information have been circulating , much to the appreciation of anxious fans everywhere. An interview with FF producer Tetsuya Nomura in a Japanese gaming publication has been leaked, complete with screenshots and all the relevant highlights. The pics in the magazine are admittedly low-quality but they show the game running in real-time gameplay, and in sharp contrast to the start of Final Fantasy XIII , this one "employs an open field concept." Hence, you can pretty much travel wherever you wish at all times (with a few exceptions). The other details are as follows:
This also says we should expect the game to make a big splash at TGS 2010, and the team currently remains very "motivated." Nomura himself may want to unveil Final Fantasy Versus XIII before TGS and as an added bonus, Square-Enix should be bringing currently unannounced titles to the upcoming show as well. For now, we'll be satisfied with what we have…despite our disappointment that it didn't steal everyone's hearts during Sony's E3 press conference.

agreed,
i stand by what i said b4, FF13 sucked.
the story was not good for me at all.
the battle system wasn't bad, i just wish the game didn't hold my hand for 23 hours.
it didn't get good until the end and by then i was only playing the side quests and forgot what the entire story was about
@Mamills, uhm, taking FFXII as a reference, is FF-XIII worse than XII's?
Sounds like this is going to be one of my all time FF favorite. Can't wait to hear more details about it.
The inclusion of car traveling lead me to believe that the world of FFvsXIII will be huge, maybe even twice of FFXII, if that's even possible.
While I can't wait for more info on this, it ain't getting a preorder out of me yet. I still don't trust SE even if Nomura still retains a brain, his boss is a tool. I'll have to see a lot more, or even some reviews. Hell I might even wait since the FF name has been dragged through the mud so badly of late.
Yikes, the feedback on FFXIII is a lot worst than I thought. Now I'm actually worried about this game. I take it back when I got excited a few post up. This site has members that knows what a true JRPG is like, so I can only trust in what they have to say.
It was that bad huh?
In short, no, it was a great game. The problem is it was a horrible Final Fantasy.
We just have to remember that even a sub-par Final Fantasy is better than just about any other game out there.

I wouldn't say it's a bad game. To me it was worth the price of admission.
It's just a little bit underwhelming, I expected way more of the first FF entry of this generation.
There's hardly any replay value at all and game-play is very repetitive. FFXIII's almost a dungeon-crawler in HD ^^.
Still, story is good, characters are interesting and well designed and some summon animations are awesome.
Personally I'd rate it 8/10 if asked and replay value somewhere between 3 and 4 😉
Now all my high expectations simply have shifted to FFvXIII.
I'll cross my fingers but I won't hold my breath.
I'll continue to enjoy FF9 for now, first time I've played it and so far, it's awesome.
Yeah that one is fun, lots of classic feel in it and a great ending. As usual in FF (Until XIII anyway) remember to hang around after the credits for the final scene.
I just hope it's PS3 exclusive and that they do a true Final Fantasy… XIII was ok but it didn't feel like a Final Fantasy to me… I've aching for an a Final fantasy experience like Final Fantasy VII,VIII,X
Those are my favorites!
Play IX.
Its not a true FF if its not a PlayStation Exclusive.
@ King James,
That's rather short-sighted of you, given that the first six iterations were Nintendo exclusive. Or did you mean to say modern FF games.
Peace.
Yea… I miss the good old days where the market was flooding with JRPGs like final fantasy, chrono cross, legend of dragoon, grandia, dragon quest, etc… It seemed that RPGs was all I played… Now, U can't even spot a real descent RPG without them trying to add some sort of Western Style into it… And I don't get it b/c i'm pretty sure the old skool RPGs i mentioned all sold in the millions

Nothing like Square Enix crying wolf again. I sure hope they come through on these promises or they're won't be any fans left.
Versus XIII I knew already was gonna kick ass, but it's gotten even better, and it's still not even finished, lol.
It truly is "versing" XIII now, let's see who gets out the ring first! XD
Seems like the gameplay is going to be like kingdom hearts from the screenshots i may be wrong though and heres hoping its nothing like ffxiii because i bought the game played it for a few hours than never touched it again
The pics look great!!! I hope this game is deep and engaging like the PS2 Kingdom Hearts games. None of that dumb it down crap.
Sorry ppl. I played FF13 most of the day today and I wondered why did they make me waste 35 hrs of my time just to get to the real game?!
I'm holding my breath on this one. FF13vs has to be the FF the fans want. Even if its an action RPG.
No limitations means exclusive titles… i hope SE would just realize this
I can't wait for more information on this. Just got IX off the PS store so I have something to tide me over till then.
Will it still be an amazing game if it goes multiplat? Somehow after the travesty that was FFXIII i have my doubts. The screens look great but they're just screens & every FF looks good so thats a moot point. Square-Enix listen to your elitist fans feedback & make this FF everything FFXIII wasn't.
If all else fails with Versus, remake FF7!!!
OMG, Behemoth (or just some tank metallic dragon-wolf thing)? FFvsXIII I love you.

sweet TGS is going to rock this year!
FFVXIII info, the last guardian info + hopefully a SOC and ICO collection and to top it off a new PSP model!
i really hope sony will release a new handheld this year, i mean ninty have a more powerful system than them.
ninty for christs sake!
when a freaking phone is more powerful than a dedicated gaming device thats the last sign you seriously need to upgrade!
the 3DS is supposedly powerful enough to run the RE5 engine!
the psp could not even run the RE4 engine let alone RE5!!!!!!!
Have you guys noticed something?
When Nomura speaks about FF, it totally contradicts the aspects of FFXIII that was taken over by Wada. Heck, didn't Wada say it was "difficult" and "time-consuming" to make HD cities (for FFVII reference) and yet here we are Nomura does the exact opposite. On top of that "Open-world" aspect that has been missing. It is if as all the aspects here is meant to be from FFXIII's vision.
Heck, he DID mention about having more MOVEMENT of space when he was designing FFXIII in the early stages. I guess this confirms that this is going to be an exclusive.
That is in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time…. and frankly watch it be nothing. I'm not gonna hope and them boom, squish….. oh look it's a new trailer with a few more scenes!!!!
found the fully translated interview and a hi-rez scan of the double-page if somebody's interested.

I hope Versus plays like Kingdom Hearts. On a side note I must b in the minority when I say I thoroughly enjoyed XIII and that I'm getting ready for a second play through. Hell I'm probably one of the few on this site who was bored to tears with Uncharted 2 as well. I just HATE shooters.
