The Call of Duty franchise has left the World War II setting behind and in order to rejuvenate the ailing Medal of Honor series, EA has decided to do the same thing.
As most of you know, the new title will focus on the war on terror in Afghanistan, a realistic take on modern war, which of course caused many to wonder if the success of Modern Warfare had an impact on EALA's design choice. Well, according to what EA president Frank Gibeau told the BBC in a recent interview, Infinity Ward's title did indeed "play a role" but the idea for MoH goes a bit beyond that. They simply did some research and tried to figure out what gamers would be most interested in, and then found the best – and perhaps most appealing – way to put us in the boots of a modern-day soldier. Said Gibeau:
"Really the idea was how do we take what has been a hallowed franchise for the industry and EA and the concept was always to step into the boots of a soldier. Whether it was World War 2 or the English Civil war it didn't matter, the concept was still true. We just wanted to find the most relevant subject matter that users are most interested in. We did the research and looked at what we could do creatively. It came back as the modern type of warfare and the weapons/tactics/strategy were the most relevant and interesting for the audience."
It's actually a little surprising that Medal of Honor isn't taking the same amount of flak Six Days in Fallujah received. But above all else, we were very much impressed with what EA showed off at E3 last week, and we have every confidence that it can be a worthy competitor to Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops .
Related Game(s): Medal of Honor
fallujah could have been sweet.
The very second I found out that MOH was doing Afghanistan, I wondered why they just didn't grab up "6 Days if Fallujah"(SP?).
Well, guess we'll just have to wait & see who's got the guts to take on "6 Days"
Shame though, MOH could have had "TWO" upcoming hits on their hands.

I doubt there was THAT much research involved with making this decision. If by "research" they mean looking at sales numbers, then I'm sure some guy made a quick call to NPD.
Anyway, copying a blockbuster is certainly a common move, but I think their biggest challenge will be to make Afghanistan actually interesting to play in. I hope we haven't traded up the dark browns and murky greens for … sand color.
got the beta and it has freezing issues. talked to EA and they were completely useless, while DICE seems to not have a contact email at all.
I agree, total double standard against Six Days. But I'm sure Fox News will find something to get angry at.
I'm psyched for the game. I just hope that the use of two different engines (Unreal 3 for the singleplayer, Frostbite for the Multi) doesn't fudge it up.
Got this Unreal Frostbite on my feets…
The beta should be titled MEHdal of Honor, besides the freezing issues which i have yet to experience, it needs a lot of polish. "its just a beta" but its a boring beta. maybe it will improve.
Ended up going back to BFBC2
I don't think it seems as bad as Fallujah due to the fact that it isn't based directly off a real-life conflict. It just sort of plays into the story of the Afghan war. What I don't understand is why there are so few WW1 shooters.
Also, I have the utmost confidence that MOH will wipe the floor (technically, definitely not sales-wise) with Black Ops, but try telling that to the millions of people that will buy BO just because they purchased MW, WaW & MW2 and considered them the greatest thing since Doom.
Also EA > Activision. Also (x3), strategy? I don't like RTS games. But if it gives you the options to flank your enemy, or rush them, or go in all stealthy like, that'll be cool.
Peace.
if the beta is a sign of things to come, black ops may wipe the floor with MOH, so far its average at best
Well that's disappointing. Thanks for the reality check.
Peace.
what even happened to six days? didn't that just fall of the face of the earth…?
still searching for a publisher, the games ready for release but unless they find someone willing to take the heat it looks like will never see it.
figures the 1 war game that is actually different really cool and does not follow the sheep off the cliff is the 1 that does not get released.
Rockstar should pick it up. 😛
can't wait i been a fan of Medal Of Honor since i was old enough to play shooters i have all the M.O.H games from the Ps2 days. in matter of fact i was just playing them the other day since my ps3 is died and i can't get a Ps3 slim just yet, damn my folks. so i am stuck playing my Ps2 and 360 till feather notice.
im a little skeptical with this, the guys at EB have played a good few hours of the SP campaign and there saying its really good but i dunno.
im really sick of war games, shooters in general, i mean how long can you play the same game over and over and over and over and over and over and over again?
i was wondering that too, how come six days copped all the flak and MoH did not.
i think its because the media does not know its about todays wars, and actually has real soldiers working with the devs on the game just like six days did.
fu*king media destroying another one of our games!
why cant they keep their mouths shut and keep their heads out of other peoples entertainment?
you dont like it, great, thats fine but dont spoil it for others.
i hate religion for example, ive seen what it does to people a family friend of ours is so blinded by it.
but do i try and bad mouth it and ban others from enjoying it?
no, i keep my nose out of their enjoyments so why cant they do the same?
Afghanistan sounds like the most boring environment any game could possibly be set in. Everything will be shades of brown.
if u payed a little attention to the developers or the NEWS, afghanistan isn't just desert, its aactually a very diverse landscape. look it up if u want to.
A demo before buying would be nice. If it looks like MW2 and online plays like Bad Company 2, I'm all in! If not, I will wait a month for COD:Black Ops (if it's the better of the two).
game looks like bad company 3.
little hesitant to buy it… is the beta good?
This looks like the shooter game for me this year. (Besides KZ3)
Gonna give the Beta a try today…
I would like to play a shooter that really displayed the life of a modern day soldier as accurately as possible. That would be interesting, and for anybody who watches the military channel a must buy.I don't think MoH will be able to pull this off, but it will be cool to see them try 🙂
Battlefield Bad Company 2 is great so far, not sure if Medal of Honor and Black Ops will compare but what I've seen so far makes me think it might end up in the running for the best shooter of the year award
I actually really like the beta. It definitely has freezing issues and other issues such as hit detection problems. But its actually quite fun. Its really like a hybrid of MW2 and BFBC2. It has kind of like a killstreak but also has vehicle combat. I like it but they really need to fix the bugs. Honestly, it is a beta so i'm not really that worried about it.
MOH needs lots of work
you can only invite 3 friends in party and yourself make it the 4th one plus no mic in lobby
kill animation horrible its lock up your character for about 3sec and freezing issue, once they get those fix then we'll have a good FPS
But is a beta its suppose to have bugs
