Sucker Punch: “It’s Unbelievable How Far We’ve Come”

Sony says the PlayStation 3 – along with the PSP – has a 10-year lifespan, which means it will have to last a good deal longer.

But as most developers say, the sheer potential of the system will allow that longevity to become a definite reality. Take Sucker Punch, for example: in speaking to VideoGamer , studio co-founder Brian Fleming spoke about the technical strides they've made since creating the original inFamous , saying they've been able to get a lot more out of Sony's machine:

"Compare this [Infamous 2] to the last game. It's frickin' unbelievable how far we've come. It's crazy how much we've been able to get out of it [the PS3]. It's crazy how much more we're able to do.

Is future proof the word I would use? I don't know. The future is always coming and coming and coming. But we're four years in and working on this and we are still getting a lot more out of it; almost five years in on working on the PS3, still getting tons more out of it."

The sequel certainly does appear to be visually superior in just about every way, as we saw some early footage at E3. Fleming went on to gush about the Cell processor; calling it "unbelievable" and saying the SPUs "kick ass."

"The SPUs are just total monsters. You just have to move more and more and more and more and more stuff there. We have post-processing graphics passes going on in the SPUs. We have more particle stuff, more collision and physics stuff going on in there. They're unbelievable."

He added that they're "still figuring out big stuff" and clearly, he believes the final product will be head-and-shoulders above the first title. We always like advancements and improvements and it's interesting to hear that devs are finding new ways to take advantage of the PS3's power. At the same time, we have to admit that gameplay was by far the most important aspect of inFamous and we just need that same stellar gameplay to return…and we'll be happy.

Side note: I used a pic of the original game because I really don't like the overhauled Cole. So sue me.

I for one don't see what the big fuss is about with the change. He looks a lot less generic than the cole on the first game.

If the new look has the ability to alienate some fans of the series thats pretty sad

I disagree, he looks more generic now because he looks like a Backstreet Boy.

to each his own, but id prefer it to another Nathan Hale carbon copy.

Not so sure why the normal argument is " he looks like a douchebag now ( odd since someone's attitude makes them a douchebag, not their looks)"
or " He looks like a backstreet boy or Abercrombie and fitch model" as these are weak arguments to me at best, but thats just my opinion about it, as is theirs.

But compare the old and new cole to the lifestyle that suckerpunch described for Cole in the first game. He is/was a bike courier, delivering messages and packages. He also is a natural at free climbing/parkour.

Honestly i see a lot of couriers in Chicago especially during the summer time. Clothing wise, the new Cole fits that description of a free climbing, parkour using human more so than old cole did. In fact, the older model they were gonna use for cole was more impressive than the one they put on the first game, wish they had stuck with it

It's more about connecting with a character. If this were The Crow, it would be normal, but this is the same person.

I think there are plenty of disheveled, disgruntled, angry couriers with bitchy girlfriends. I think the gruff exterior and attitude of the old Cole better fits the mold of the man we saw in the first game, if not the job description. Remember this fellow is more of an urban explorer than anything.

We can agree to disagree, but at the very least it is foolish to change the appearance and personality from one game to the next. Would you be too thrilled if Nathan Drake was changed into a bald tattooed tough guy?

Come to think of it I hate what they did to Max Payne too.

i read the same article. In it, he states and confirms exactly what people who could care less about Cole's look have been saying, as long as the gameplay is rock solid and the game is fun, great.

He still looks like a normal guy to me and that's what counts. The changed appearance doesn't make him look any more extraordinary than his last appearance. Its not like they put the guy in some tight Xmen uniform

It's the fact that they changed everything about him that bothers everyone. Not caring less about his appearance and personality are different from liking the change.

Can you prove that they changed everything about him including his personality? if not then its just cosmetic at best. We haven't really heard enough dialog from the new VA to make a good judgement yet. Im waiting on someone to point out his personality changes, kinda impossible to do that without….playing the game

I'm not liking his new look, he looks too sissified, like he should be standing outside a supermarket in a green pullover smock & hawking Girl Scout cookies out of his bag.
But as for the game itself, I'm sure it will be great.

Hey Cole……if you got 2 boxes of Oatmeal Raisin coolkies, and a box of Thin Mints left, here's $10.

Hopefully we can select his old face (a cheat code?)

Maybed add it as DLC? I'd buy it, lol…

Anyway, the graphics looks so much better. The town looks more alive and colorful. Not that a cold/dark, messed up city wasn't good. But I like this progression. Shows that there's a progression.

Anyway, aside from the face, the game's looking great. And the Cell processor is really something. Naughty Dog figured that out beautifully, can't wait to see Sucker Punch's result.

So, you'd rather punch someone in the face than cave their skull in with a giant fork type thing… To each their own I guess.

Maybe I'm just a lickle bit too violent.
Peace.

He said kill, not punch. Big difference. Think of squeezing an orange until it gushes out. Yeah, that's satisfying.

just because the ps3 is going to last 10 years which im positive it will does not mean we wont see a successor soon.
look at the PS2 its successor released 4 years ago 6 years into its life cycle.
so if sony were to follow the trend than a successor to the ps3 would be released in 2 years time, 2012.
not that i think we need one anytime soon, we need a PSP HD more than anything else!
o, and a wii HD.

sucker punch are up there though, up there in the elite club with crytek, ND, sony SA, ID, valve, rare, remedy.

I still cannot get behind the new Cole. As much as I usually don't get into shallow discussions like this, the voice, the style it's annoying me even now. I can't see myself buying the sequel due to this.
