Although it was a huge announcement and actually quite shocking for anybody who knows about Valve's well-documented thoughts concerning the PlayStation brand, how many of you actually played the original Portal ?
We're guessing the answer is "not enough," which is why we've nabbed this E3 gameplay video for you, along with a few important details. Here's a brief history: the first title began as a FPS designed by students at the DigiPen Institute of Technology, who were then hired by Valve to produce a full product. It featured standard first-person movement but it didn't really play like any other FPS; there was an emphasis on unique mechanics and puzzle-solving via "portals." The portals, which you could place with your handy tool, would allow you to leap all over the place and strategically bypass certain areas, and you would often be assisted by the computer AI known as GLaDOS. Portal 2 is a direct sequel; although it takes place some time after the original quest, you still play as the same main character.
Fans of the first game will quickly praise its originality and engaging style, and we're all hoping for an even more fulfilling experience the second time 'round. Valve even said the PlayStation 3 version would be the "best version available," which is great news for PS3 owners. So when Portal 2 launches later this year, you should definitely consider a purchase.
