Why Sony Kicked The Competition’s Ass At E3 2010

For the second year in a row, it seems that Sony has kicked a ton of butt at E3.

Sure, we already knew about that massive Twisted Metal unveiling at the end of Sony's press conference (thanks, Dave and Scott !), and in my honest opinion, that alone was enough to give Sony the edge. If I were to compare across the board, I don't see how either Nintendo or Microsoft could compete with what Sony has on tap for us in the coming year; once again, it comes down to the exclusive stuff. Although I'm not the biggest fan of motion-sensing technology, I was far more impressed with Move's presentation than Microsoft's Kinect. I don't think the pricing is as low as it should be for either, but then again, people can go crazy for this new technology stuff… Then there are the exclusive games and let's face it, Sony has owned that category for quite some time.

But now, giving us looks at amazing Killzone 3 , Twisted Metal , LittleBigPlanet 2 , and Gran Turismo 5 content, it becomes very clear that PS3 owners should be very, very happy right about now. 3D is obviously designed with the PlayStation 3 in mind and that ought to be mind-blowing (provided it's done correctly), and I swear, I thought I'd see swine flying by my window before I saw Gabe Newell on a PlayStation stage. Portal 2 is just one of the great upcoming games for the PS3 (and can you believe he said it'd be the "best version?!"), and of course, we can look down the road to stuff like inFamous 2 and Uncharted 3 ; the latter will probably hit hard at next year's E3.  That right there will give Sony the advantage in 2011.

Look, I'm pretty overloaded on E3 stuff right about now, but I think my conclusion feels right. The exclusives that continue to push the industry? Yeah, you know where they are (as much as I will adore Gears of War 3 ). And now, I'm going to take a break before I die.

Aside from TM i honestly thought that (m$ and Sony)did a mediocre job, I don't mean It wasn't great I mean all the information was leaked before hand, so no big announcement last year E3 was better.

Now as For TM that was a dream come true I just cant wait, God damnit why can't it be in 2010.

I didn't mention nintendo Never was a fan so I can't judge them .peace y'all

@Ben – Well apparently the 3DS is good enough to impress Kojima (so much that he's looking into making a Metal Gear for it) so I guess it isn't half bad right?

Don't forget the same people who spoke praises of the 3ds spoke praises of the kinnect. Same with kojima and well look the reception that got. Very underwhelming. I do like the 3ds just not the 3d that I will be using.

Never said it was bad. I said it's not really enough to get me excited over what Sony presented.

i don't think that my comment at this point will get anything new, there is around more than 200 comments over this article, dude thats awesome,
i used to like the WII and Nintendo products and the way that WII were meant for family wise game console
but with providing a great system like move for PS3 I'm sure that this will get a lot of WII's owners attention for the PS3 , Sony is going at the right way into covering more gamers base
i expected Sony's e3 press to be great but i was wrong
its not great
its so awesomely amazingly great IMO there was nothing to thumb down at it
the only this that has my attention outside Sony's press was the NINTENDO but still i cant imagine a mature guy would carry a kid's console like that ,i think this machine would be a great opportunity for Sony to study the 3d technology for a hand hold console and its effect on the market and acceptance by gamers to get better planning for the next PSP2
in general i can see that Sony is doing it right covering more gamers by providing everything on PS3. 3D games ,move based games ,hardcore games ,free online games ,games for all ages ,a great online community ,more reliable machine , and this list can never stop growing

I actually went through and read all of that, man people can get emotional. I'd like to point out that the press conference doesn't really have a point system or anything, so really, who won, is a matter of opinion.

We all have our reasons why we believe this company or that company won, but in the end it's due to what appealed to us. Doesn't really make anyone wrong or right, just means we all know what we're looking for.

I pointed out earlier how I felt and why, some ppl agree, some don't, that's cool. I know the truth. 😉

I wanted to see The Last Guardian (never happened), a new Kingdom Hearts 3 (never happened). Resistance 3 (again another no show). I knew Rockstar would not be there as was Agent etc. I wanted them to be but hey ho cant have everything the show would have gone on for longer than 2 hours, (well if they cut Move down from 45 mins to 30 mins) then it may have squuezed a few more games in.
Overall I enjoyed the show and the news that came out.

The ending was a bit of an anti climax to me when Twisted Metal was announced. This was simply because I have not played a game of this before. The demo got me interested though it looked great fun and now I cant wait to play it.

Sony's conference was the best. Kevin Butler did not disappoint. Twisted Metal was expected, because I remember in a certain part of Twisted Metal Head On for PS2 it hinted at Twisted Metal coming out on the PS3.

I guess Sony is saving the PSP2 for a different video game show like Gamescom or TGS maybe.

Since when does Kevin Butler talk about himself in the third person?

Shouldn't it be…"I did not disappoint."

I hope you're kidding.

E3 didn't matter much to me because there are bigger and better things in the world cup, BUT I am pretty excited over Metal Gear Rising and VERY interested in Move, but baffled over how Kinect is going to work at all!

Do you guys know that you actually have to be standing up for the thing to work? Because it has problems scanning you if you're sitting down!

All the cool things about it go out the window if you are forced to be standing up! Who's gonna wanna navigate menus and watch movies standing up?

I will have to disagree with this post. I do not care how many thumbs down I get because of my opinion. Must best bet on the best E3 of the year is Microsoft. It really is a plan flat out winner as really Sony really doesn't come close to dominating the E3. Before I get more in depth, I still prefer the Playstation 3 over the Xbox 360, this is just my opinion. I will talk about the biggest 3 on my list, Kinect, Call of Duty Exclusive DLC, and the new Xbox 360 Slim.

Kinect:
Yes, the idea may not be entirely original, but it does do justice for the fact is is extremely interactive and precise. It uses a motion capture bar instead of a camera, so it will be a precise motion control device. It has very good games such as MILO, FORZA and let alone a Star Wars game! Those 3 games alone are impressive! You can control the menus with the palm of your HAND, which makes it ideal for any user. There's not doubt in my mind that Kinect will achieve significant sales as to many consumers this is something different. There are thoses ready to put the controller down.

Call of Duty:
Why is this a big deal? Well, because it just is. Xbox 360 has always been the console to play FPS's on. I mean the series plays better, looks better and sells better on the Xbox 360 over the PS3. Don't get me wrong I still think that the PS3 version is good, but it's 2 biggest problems is the frame rate and lack of DLC. Frame rate, is a big problem with many multi-platform games as really it is much easier to program for the 360 over PS3. SO developers are lazy and port it over to PS3 poorly making bad games, not to mention the RSX is a little weaker in terms than the XENON(check out at technobuffalo/consolewars on youtube). DLC is big one because there are simply enough die-hard COD fans that care about the DLC and want it. Believe it or not it is one big selling point, and also to throw in that 360 will get all DLC for COD until 2012, if I heard correctly.

New Xbox 360 Slim:

Probably, the biggest one out the three. Microsoft has really come far out their shell as the new Xbox 360 does actually look very good. Big improvements such as built in wi-fi "Whisper Quiet" and the new infer-face relocations really make it a must-have. 5 USB ports and all the media ports have been redone superb. 250 GB HDD that is easy to remove with no screw driver hassle, not to mention it has more space than the current 120GB PS3 Slim and costs the same. The console also stole our touch buttons and kept the stupid original disc tray. Very nice looking as really looks more of the kind of technology you would see today, nice sleek and formula-1 look too it. No matter what, Microsoft has really out done the rest this E3 and I hate to say it but yes, I look forward to get this Xbox 360 Slim sometime later on.

Can you please explain this to me…

How is someone supposed to act like they're holding an invisible wheel for more than 15 minutes? Wouldn't that get tiring? Try it, try holding your hands out for 5-10 minutes, it's not as fun as it sounds (doesn't really sound that great either). And I don't know if you realize this as well, but the person was ONLY controlling the steering, not the acceleration of the car! That SUCKS.

And I dunno if you read my post, but do you realize that you HAVE to be standing the whole time for the camera to scan your body correctly?

SINCE when do you drive a car standing? I do see Kinect adding some cool features to SOME games, but I don't see any hardcore games that will focus entirely or even 50% on Kinect alone. It's just so limited!

What happens when someone walks behind you? What happens when someone shouts out something in the same room? What happens if you're playing in a noisy house? What happens if you try to swat a fly, and the damn thing thinks you're trying to start playing a movie?

ONCE AGAIN, ONE MORE TIME. YOU HAVE TO BE STANDING FOR THE THING TO WORK!!!

Seriously? The Slim was your highlight? It's the same Xbox in a smaller package with.. Wifi. What's the huge commotion? Oh, the WhisperQuiet? Well I hope it's magical, too. I sense RROD coming soon!

Unless it was all just a bad case of cold solder joints!

I digress.

The Xbox 360 Slim is hardly anything special and it is NOT true that recent CoD games have framerate issues on the PS3, nor is it true that multiplatform games are better on the 360. That's all old-fashioned and completely false.

This isn't 2007.

After looking at the newly re-designed 360, for the life of me I can't fathom how anyone's calling it a "360 Slim".

It's not slim!!!1

What it should be called, is by a more rightful name of…a "360 Squat"

I mean, come on now, even Keven Butler would tell you that this new "360 Squat" looks like it was compressed under one of the wheels of a 500 ton Terex Titan strip-mining dump truck.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Terex_Titan.JPG

And as a bonus side-effect, MS is crowing about it, as being so "whisper quiet" now.

Of course it's whisper quiet, it stopped working moments after being de-boxed!

Im with Ben on this Sony killed it, the move spotlight was tolerable and primarily they did what they always do, bring the games. Nintendo had a good Nintendo conference but that's always my problem with them; when you put them up against the competition they always look lame (except this year because MS's conference blew harder then a cat 5 hurricane). The fact that their games are innovative should not be an excuse for slacking off in every other way. Nintendo fans are far too forgiving imo, Ninty gives everyone the shaft for the last 3 years and completely starves the console of good games and now just because they are actually supporting their console with more then exercise games and gimmicks everyone goes right back to forgiving them? 1 good year hardly forgives the last 3 imo.

As for 3DS its impressive at first glance but when you look at the tech specs its not all its cracked up to be. I don't find the screen size very appealing either (nor its native resolutions for those screens), the DSi XL should be their new default screen size as the DSLite/DSi are too small for me. Either way Sony will likely let Ninty test pilot the 3DS and then release a PSP2 that does everything 3DS does but better, just like with their home consoles.

Im also not understanding the Zelda love here? The new Zelda will be the first in the series I never play. Why? Too much motion, I don't have some 400×400 sq-ft room to play games in. I refuse to stand up while playing a game(I work all day and exercise every morning when I play I want to relax)and there is just way too much motion in this new title, sword swinging I could get use to but that in addition to the nun chuck flicking for blocking, rolling the bombs and all the other controls…… Ill pass thanks.
