John-ShepardYou can bet Sony will be promoting the new 3D technology (along with many other things) at their press conference on Tuesday, and game developers are scrambling to take advantage.
We know Killzone 3 will be available in 3D and now, another potentially fantastic FPS has also embraced the "next-generation" of game viewing. It's Crytek's hotly anticipated sequel, as they confirmed via USA Today that both the single-player and multiplayer modes of Crysis 2 will be available in 3D. The PlayStation 3 is already 3D-ready for video games, and there are a few compatible titles on the Network right now, but the revolution is yet to strike in full force. Said Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli:
"The success of 3-D movies like Avatar and the introduction of 3-D TVs from the hardware manufacturers tells us that this is the next big movement in entertainment, much like HD was years ago. For games especially, 3-D gives gamers an increased level of immersion, which can enhance an intense experience like Crysis 2."
Of course, they do clarify that both the 2D and 3D presentations of the game will "have the same content." Some have asked if developers will either eliminate or add certain content when transitioning from 2D to 3D, but while the resolution can alter, the content itself should probably never change. The developers are touting Crysis 2 as one of the year's best and we have high hopes, but it'd be nice if we could actually see some gameplay… How's about it, Crytek?

3d is at a stage HD was 4 years ago with blu ray and hd dvd. There is a large amount of uncertainty as to which 3d technology will prevail.
More concerning is the fact that 3d TVs which don't need glasses are rapidly developing,
Since I wear glasses already, I will be ready and waiting when the 3D technology that needs no glasses, and does not induce nausea or headaches, comes along.
The thing is that the 3D TVs with no glasses can't a achieve a proper sense of thing popping out, only depth but doesn't really stick out of the TV. The only way to get that effect is with the glasses and that is due to the binocular effect… and how our eyes work.
I know this because I had to do a presentation on photonics and electronics for Physics about TV and 3d TVs and also had to explain how it works so yeah.
I also wear glasses and these shutter glasses are big enough to put on top of normal ones.

Yes, but the thing is that human vision senses depth of field and things do not literally pop out at us, we merely shift our focus. The kinds of 3D pop-out done in movies and TV (almost as if to prove it's 3D) are overdone to show off the 3D-ness of it. I don't think that a screen that gives a 3D image without glasses will have a disadvantage in terms of the viewer once producers tire of having laughable 3D effects.

I still wish Crytek had made a PS3 version of the original Crysis. The frozen tropics would have been cool to see.

Hey John, GT has had a gameplay video of Crysis 2 for quite a while now. It looks pretty darn good tbh and 3D really would present a whole new level of immersion. Now how much is a 3D tv again?

Hmm…. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that a 3D version of Crysis 2 will be a PS3 exclusive (console exclusive). The 360 firmware doesn't support 3D and the HDMI implementation it has doesn't support any kind of 3D output.
A possibility 360 version won't support 3D.
what? the PC version will have 3D crytek are PC developers after all.
if the ps3 version of crysis 2 has 3D and the PC version does not then im going headhunting!!!
I believe highlander meant it would be exclusive to ps3 as far as consoles are concerned, meaning 360 version would be left the only way to play it where you couldn't get 3d, that's what I got from what he wrote.
i doubt it because crytek have said multiple times all versions of the game will be the same.
i cant see them doing 3D on one system and not the other.
if 3D cant work on the 360 than they wont do it for the ps3 either as they want the games to be equal.
they already said they had to remove a few things from the PC version because it wont work on consoles, so id expect them to do the same thing vise verse.
anyway the 360 can do 3D because M$ said it can and harvey norman are advertising the 360 as 3D compatible.
so if its not, well than both are in for a law suit.
this is cryteks first game on the 360 the last thing they want to do is piss customers off.

Underscore do you have a link to these claims that 360 can do 3d? I've not been able to find it.
Apparently Crytek will implement 3D on the 360 (perhaps other platforms too?) using the old color separation/3D glasses technique. One hopes that the PS3 version of the game does stereoscopic 3D instead. I'm not sure which the PC will do, with nVidia they can do the active shutter thing.
When is Crysis 2 coming out?
I know I'll be getting the PS3 version because the PC version would be too 'expensive'.
I think Ben is right its time for Crytek to show us sum gameplay! ..put there money where there mouth is…We have all the hype in the world about games comin out i believe ps3 owners have a more wit about them when it comes to the hype.

All I can do it's play some games like Crysis 1 on 3d with Anaglyph glasses on PC…
Not as crappy as it sounds… but I barely used it… Don't really find it all that enjoyable…
I hope to see glasses… VR glasses like with HD resolutions XD …

i was a little worried them taking it from the lush colorful jungles to new york, i was worried it would turn into a one color affair ala KZ2 but its actually looking really good!
the destruction is really impressive too! watch the GTTV preview and you will see cement flying of columns as there shot or hit by a grenade.
or even the glass shattering, looks really impressive!
I'm glad to see companies supporting 3d because I think that's the only way that anyone would continue to improve it. I don't really think it's good enough right now, but I'll want it when it is up to snuff.
I agree, in order to have it progressed upon the technology needs to be sold and used by the public. My other thought is that once it is out for a bit and some different, better version of 3D comes along there is the possibility of something like blueray vs. HD DVD electronics battle, and that is certainly one that I would not want to be on the loosing end of.
Wait so let me get this straight–they're gonna have it play also in 3D-in the same resolution? By the previous posts on 3D it seems that a game has to have lower resolution to be presented better in 3D (due to hardware constraints on the part of the PS3). Or would they be just be having it on a sub-HD resolution so that 3D-transition is better?
I believe that the post you're referring to said that games that were out and having 3d added to them had to be rendered in a lower resolution because they were not initially meant for 3d, but that new games could be done with 3d and Hd together.
gotcha but isn't Crysis 2 a multiplat, so would it have to be less than HD to cater to 360? Or i can imagine that they would have a lot of configurations for the resolution…
