This is one of those times when all the readers will go, "hmm, do I fit into that category?"
In speaking at a recent event to help launch and promote Sony's 3D HDTV line, SCEA president Jack Tretton gave a presentation that opened a few eyes and perked a few ears. Based on the conclusions of a "recent survey," Tretton said PS3 owners are "voracious technophiles" who will likely embrace 3D faster than others. Not surprisingly, he says that if a consumer doesn't own a PS3, his or her interest in the machine "increases when they learn about those 3D capabilities." And here are some more relevant statistics:
Tretton then went on to say that within this fiscal year, SCEA will release "20 gaming titles that are stereoscopic 3D compatible" and "every genre will be covered." The question is whether or not those statistics will rise over the next few months; early indications are that they will, now that Sony's 3D HDTVs are out and the first Blu-Ray 3D movies will start hitting shelves this summer. And the more we think about it, the more we think that supposedly fake PS4 teaser is actually a real commercial, but for 3D. Maybe we'll even see it at E3…
If you want a top of the line Samsung TV it WILL run you 6-7 grand…if you want a lower end 3D TV then around 3-4 grand. Either way, people most likely don't have that much extra cash to blow on a 3D TV…especially if they already have a regular HDTV, there really is no use in upgrading. Who wants to wear goofy plastic glasses for hours on end while getting a headache at the same time???
where r u getting these numbers lol…
UN55C7000 55" 1080p 3D Samsung LED HDTV- $3,299.99
That is probably Samsungs best model 3d t.v. they offer. 3-4 grand is what people were spending on HD t.v.s when they came out so I dont get the fuss about the price. Jelousy maybe, IDK.
Not to mention Some HD tv's still cost in the high 3's. Its life, we move on, and in the mean time we wait for price drops!
btw you can punch that model number in, if you wanna see for yourself.

And let's not forget that this 55" model has already gone on sale for as low as $1799 with four pairs of 3D glasses. I almost bit but I have no reason to replace any of my TV's.
@EducAsian
Captain Negativity over here, leading the charge against progression.
Truth be told, I still use a SD tv… So, any upgrade would be awesome for me.
And Wreckless,
I would totally agree with you. 3D in gaming is such a gimmick at this point. Just give me hardcore games and I can care less if it supports 3D or not.
waste of money the 3d tvs …cant wait for them to hit $500, then yea
thats funny, cus thats what most people said about HD t.v..
where did he get those figures, because they dont seem right…
not that im not pro-3D or anything

seems legit, especially if its worldwide.
Well, im not afraid to mention that I thought 3-d t.v. was going to be a fad. But I cant get over what I saw with my own eyes. It was quite amazing, and although It wouldnt be an all the time thing, 3d is welcome in my home.
Ive seen the t.v.s comparable to the price, that my HD t.v. was when I bought it. That being the case now that Ive seen a 3-d t.v. and cant wait to see what games will look like, I will gladly purchase one, when that time comes. Im still a skeptic about quality and reliability so thats whats holding me back right now!
bigrailer19,
UN55C9000 Samsung – 55" Class / 1080p / 240Hz / 3D LED-LCD HDTV
This is what I'm talking. That is one of the top line 3D TV's that Samnsung has right now. Currently retails for 7 grand. I don't just pull numbers out of nowhere. That model you gave me is one of Samsungs lower end models.
Ya know something Jack?
Ya really gotta stop calling us by those big high-faluting names.
Why just last week, someone else called me a thespian.
You're from ancient Greece? Dam Biker saint I thought you might be old but not THAT old. 😛
(j/k)
the only thing stopping 3D is the price.
well that and the glasses, but seriously is that so much of a issue?
anyway sony are apparently going to release a emitter and 3D glasses for normal bravias at E3 so if you have a bravia but cant afford a 3D TV you can just use those for your 3D gaming fix.
Technophile? Me? No bloody way. I've got a broken phone, a ps3, a psp, an sdtv and a 3G internet connection that I use on my mother's laptop. Technophile, I am not, though I am very interested in the advancements of technology.
Do I know about 3D, no, I know about 4D when factoring in the ever-present dimension of time.
Do I care about 3D? No. It's a useless medium, at least right now. How can it be used to enhance our entertainment experience in terms of immersion?
Will 3D make me use my ps3 more? GOD NO! I already use it for at least an hour every day, and sometimes much, much, much more than that, so no.
Anyway, I've got too much debt to bother buying an expensive and, at least for now, almost useless bit of tech.

Peace.
It'll be a long long time until I even think of getting a 3D tv, i have other things to pay for before getting a new tv.
