Telltale Tackling Jurassic Park, Back To The Future Themes

Well…alrighty then.

TellTale Games has revealed they plan to release episodic video game titles based on the "Back to the Future" and "Jurassic Park" film franchises. The movies caused corresponding games to be released back in the '80s and '90s but we've seen nothing since then; now, the developer will deliver new interactive experiences for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC and Mac this winter. Said Dan Connors, Telltale Games CEO:

"I think it's a prime time to reintroduce these properties in the digital world. Telltale Games has always set out to be a great storytelling company. We've been honing our chops over the past six years, and we're ready to take on these two iconic properties and continue to advance storytelling in games."

Telltale is responsible for episodic titles based on Aardman Animations' award-winning "Wallace and Gromit" series, Steve Purcell's comic "Sam and Max," and Matt Chapman's online toon, "Homestar Runner." Connors went on to say that the new Back to the Future and Jurassic Park games will tell "new stories" in each series; this could include a DeLorean trip back to the Afro-laden '70s and fresh takes on the man-versus-dinosaur mythology… Turok , anyone? Said Connors:

"The games are going to exist within these worlds. I wouldn't call these games sequels per se but a new interpretation of their worlds for a new medium. For one generation, it's an introduction to these series. For another generation, it's a thing they can look back on and something they can share warmly with their family and friends."

But if they want to stick with the original "Back to the Future" theme, we're cool with that. All sorts of gameplay elements: a racing/extreme sports mechanic when Marty evades Biff and his gang on the skateboard, a music/rhythm mechanic when the hero rips it on stage, a fighting mechanic with Biff as a boss, and maybe a few puzzle elements concerning the science aspect and Doc's preparations. …yeah, put us in charge.

The first time i put on RDR, first thing that came to mind was Back to the Future 3 (Wild West setting). That was a pretty nice movie, with movie-magic ahead of its time. Hope this translation to games turns out OK.

idk, i like the idea…

jurassic park is still a game concept that hasn't been fully realized…especially as a survivor horror (they're kinda fading away)

sidenote – turok was 'dead' the moment they veered away from the original game/and original comics. The original story of a native american and his friend from the past being transported to a different dimension in which dinosaurs and other beings existed could've maybe developed into something better. Now, just a mediocre, storyless, 1st person shooter that can't compare with the best in that genre.

back to the future might be a difficult concept to work with… i guess if they follow the movie it might be interesting. I could see them maybe trying to take a heavy rain approach to it, at least in certain scenes. Time travel gives a broad range of possible ideas…hopefully they choose the right ideas, and implement them wisely.

Sounds pretty cool, and hey if Ghostbusters can do it…

Man, I don't know. Are they talking about making them downloadable PSN titles? Or full on $60 titles? I played the Ghostbusters demo and was on the fence about it, so that turned me off to spending the $60 it took to buy it.

Ghostbusters wasn't BAD, but some of the weapons were kinda silly. It walked a very fine line of being nostalgic/dorky. I do plan on playing through it at least one more time eventually, but I'm not so sure that Marty McFly can pull it off.

As long as it's quality then I'll be interested. Please no more cheap nostalgia products.

Despite your great ideas I still think Back to the Future is a tough movie to turn into a good game.

Hopefully, if we buy the Back To The Future game, it will allow us go back in time and not buy it if it sucks.

Jurassic Park might be cool, but not if they do it in a Wallace and Grommit or Sam and Max art style. Something with graphics like Turok, yeah, I'd be interested in that. Something with claymation characters – I'll pass.

Hezzron,

LOL! And going back in the past, our American money will be worth something more than just the paper it's now being printed on too.

When you said TellTale, I thought you were referring to the people that are in charge of the Lego Star Wars games, but that's Traveller's Tales. These would be fun games to turn into Lego adventures.

Two fantastic movies, but I'm really unsure of a Back To The Future game. It will be a hard one to pull off without coming across as cheesy.

Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition was a sick game. I had it for Genesis, idk if it was on SNES as well. I never played the other JP game, but I played The Lost World: Jurassic Park on Genesis and the only good parts were the boss levels, because they were completely different than the normal level.

Also, I remember playing a Back to the Future game on… nintendo? The only thing I remember from the game was a skateboarding level and the health bar was the picture of Marty and his brother and sister. If all three people faded from the picture, you died.

I think the concept of a Back to the Future video game is great, but the ability to carry it out and make it worthwhile?.. not so confident

I remember the first Jurassic Park video game, it was ok, being on the super nintendo I think. I will be excited for the Back to the future game though, although I put the old Jurassic Park video game in a bin with all my nostalgia products.
