Capcom To “Heat Up” Resident Evil Later This Year?

It probably won't be Resident Evil 6 but it might just interest fans of the pioneering survival/horror franchise.

According to Andriasang citing a recent Nikkei BP interview, Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto has hinted that they want to do something to "heat up" the series in September when the new movie hits theaters. If you weren't already aware, the 3D film, "Resident Evil IV: Afterlife," starring Milla Jovovich, is slated to grace the big screen on September 10. In allusion to this event, Tsujimoto said Capcom would "like to do something to heat up the game series" at about the same time, which has prompted much speculation and discussion. We suppose it could be an all-new RE installment, although it seems unlikely as we've heard and seen nothing about RE6 (unless it surprises the hell out of everyone at E3 next week). Perhaps it could come in the form of DLC for RE5 in the theme of the new movie, or maybe something episodic in digital form. There's any number of things Capcom could do, but at least we won't go through all of 2010 without an RE-related news topic.

There is an ongoing argument over the last entry in the series; i.e., whether it was great or merely average due to the controls. …we wonder what Capcom will do for the next title.

Seriously, I'm hoping Vanquish will wash the bad taste out of my mouth from RE5.

I have to admit, I was one of those that defended RE4's scheme, and did so again (hypothetically) for RE5 before it came out.

My feeling is that RE5 was a great game, no doubt, it just could have been much better. Not only the control scheme could be improved, but so could that annoyingly slow inventory mngmnt system. That bugged me more than the lack of moving whilst shooting

I actually don't feel the controls are enough factor to not like the game , the problem was that RE4 was a more awesome game wen RE5 was a step backwards and with the 360/Ps3 we deserved more.

I was going to get R5 seeing that it cost less now. But after watching my brother play it for a couple of days I was kinda disappointed with it. Here's hoping that the surprise is worth it.

There are reasons to enjoy the game but it's certainly not a true Resident Evil.

They need to stop making the movies. They are all horrid…even if they weren't trying to be RE.

Those crappy movies are all about the heroine and how strong she is. No survival. No horror. Just Alice. They just HAD to ruin it. God, I even hate her NAME. Aliiiiice.

The movies weren't the greatest, but such sweet eye candy,

Milla Jovovich, oh baby…..YUM!

I really liked the first and third movies, the second one was awful though. Here's hoping they don't continue the every-other-one thing.

i could see them hiding a RE psp game

we'll see next week

as for re6….. story wise.. where can they possibly go after re5? i feel like 'everything' is pretty much out in the open, all the people involved in the creation of unbrella are dead..

I liked the movies, for once I didn't care they went far afield of the games and well lets face it they are among the better movies that came from games initially. Dunno if I'll go to the theatre or wait until it's on blu ray though.

I recently saw Degeneration, which was surprisingly good.

I think this will be episodic content for RE5, or maybe a controls patch.

I would've agreed with you… if I didn't have the knowledge that george romero was going to direct resident evil, doing a full treatment no less, then getting canned from it. He even did a resident evil 2 trailer which was awesome back in the day. only to have Marilyn Manson do the music, and anything/everything that makes the games/ old horror films great just not in the film.

Hang on… I just don't agree with you. they are full of suck, and were wasted money and potential. Resident Evil could've been a modern day reimagining of the zombie horror film, with george romero no less.

Romero would have been the best but I stand by my statement that they are among the better game to film adaptations, I mean look at the competition in the past. And obviously aren't a waste of money if there is a big enough audience to make 4 films.

Weren't the controls of RE5 the same as RE4? I thought they were good. The problem was that they threw you into a Gears of War environment expecting you to blast everything like a third person shooter.

If they'd go back to the survival horror aspect of the series I doubt the controls would be an issue.

Actually the controlls were my only concern , they hardly changed from the PS1 re controlls , Games should change , standing still is always a bad thing.

That's why it didn't feel right Alienange, the RE4 controls worked for that game. You can't put them into a gears environment and expect them to work though.

I really enjoyed RE5 and the co-op even if it was a different game from others in the series. I really wish it would allow local co-op with separate PSN ids because I still enjoy playing a game with other people in the same room instead of being in separate houses.

I loved Re5, actually i sold my version of re5 a couple of months ago in order to buy the re5 golden edition , which i will soon isa.
I dont get why people hated re5 , yea the controlls were crap , but everything else about the game was soo great , the graphics the coop the story (typical RE) story .
I am a big fan of the series , and i support Re games , The movies really suck though.
And com on capcom , blow us away at E3 with the new re and maybe the new DMC .
These old school titles are just the best. 🙂

The picture used in the article wasn't even part of the game. It's from the first trailer back years ago. I would have liked that many Majini on screen with the controls of Dead Space.

I wanna be back in Racoon City thats when the games were the best. I don't care if its a remake of the original three games or some side story that happened at the same time, I just want ZOMBIES again…

It'll be the PSP iteration announced at E3 last year, I only hope that it doesn't follow the storyline from the movie. RE on the PSP has the potential to reinvigorate the original fright factor of the series. I mean, with the lack of a second analogue nub, it fits the control scheme perfectly. But if they make it RE5 portable, it's a no-buy. I want to be scared by my PSP (Actually, I already am. It's a 1000 and the screen keeps flickering out on me, and the mute button activated whenever it pleases :/).
Peace.

They should go back to their old school roots and make it like Resident Evil 1,2, & 3 was like. The download content in the Mansion came pretty close to it, I think. As close as it could with how they made RE5…
