That's why the sequel is a done deal: this fall, DJ Hero 2 will pick up where the #1 new game IP of 2009 left off. Titles from the biggest artists in the hip hop, dance, and pop genres will be featured: Dr. Dre, The Chemical Brothers, Kanye West, Metallica, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and over 85 more will turn your living rooms into veritable dance clubs. The developers are also tossing in some "all-new social multiplayer game modes," too, like innovative freestyle gameplay that will give you the ability to "crossfade, scratch and sample in over 70 speaker-blowing mashups." Furthermore, owners of the first game will be able to play with a mix of tracks from the sequel as DLC; the mix includes Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" mixed with the inspiring beats of Deadmau5's "Ghosts 'n' Stuff." This DLC will be available for free between June 8 and June 14 on either the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live Marketplace. Said David Haddad, Chief Operating Officer for the game:
"DJ Hero was the best music game of 2009 and with DJ Hero 2 we're delivering a new easy to pick-up, challenging-to-master experience that all players can enjoy together. With new social game modes, the inclusion of full microphone support, all-new levels of creative freedom and an amazing soundtrack, DJ Hero 2 is the ultimate mixer of music and friends."
With DJ Battles and the option to toss vocalists into the mix with the Party Play mode, along with a "heightened level of creative input" for the ultimate in personal creative freedom, DJ Hero 2 ought to be another big hit. And who doesn't want to try the new Empire Mode, which is basically a career mode where you start out as nothing and work to become the hottest DJ on the planet…?

If you're into mixed beats and remixed popular songs, this could be a lot of fun. Isn't the music video game boom kind of dying off now? I can see fans of the first DJ Hero picking this up though. Not my thing, but I do appreciate the innovation of the concept.
I've never played any of these music games, guitar hero, dj, rock band, whatever and I don't see myself bother me ass with this one either. I just don't see how they're fun. I'd rather go to a club and enjoy the atmosphere and maybe score a bird in the process.

Personally, I'd rather be apart of the music than merely be subjected to a trance. But that's more due to my family background with my mom being a professional soprano. When you grow up with music, you want to be apart of it, and I think your appreciation for the arts sort of diminishes the appeal of a club. So, I'm probably not a common case.
Because I don't see the appeal of these games in no way suggests that I lack any appreciation of the arts. I love music and I'm not restricting myself to just one genre but a wide eclectic range of music.
My reasons for not understanding this type of gaming is because in the past I was a performer in clubs. To be honest I get shivers when I think back on them days but I don't see how these games can ever give me the same feelings I had on stage in front of a real crowd.
But not everyone has had that oppurtunity and I guess thats why these games sell as well as they do. I'm just speaking from my own perspective.
I find a music background actually enhances your ability to play these games. Surely no one is kidding themselves into thinking that a Guitar Hero guitar plays the same as a real guitar. And certainly it can be annoying when you ask someone if they play guitar and they respond with "no, but i've played guitar hero!".
In fact, I have many extremely musical friends who enjoy these types of games. As for me, I played trumpet for a large number of years, and spent 3 years in a B-500 Symphonic Band, I played piano since I was 5 (although quit taking lessons after I reached Grade 8 of the Royal Conservatory of Music), I've been trained in classical voice for a number of years, had a few parts in musicals both amateur and professional (one of my majors is in theatre), and I've written a few quartet songs as well. You get alot of musical exposure when your mother is a professional musician. My brother-in-law was nominated for a Juno (Canadian music awards) this past year, and he LOVES Rock Band.
I'm not competing with you, but a musical background, in my experience, just enhances the experience of these games. As a bare minimum, you need to at least have some sense of rhythm, so it makes sense that this would appeal to musicians. It's not the real deal, but why should it be? It's pretty sweet for a video game.
I'm in no way suggesting your disinterest in games like this aren't without foundation. I don't even really have an issue with what you wrote, at all. Except, of course, for your referral to women as some sort of prize to be won… That was a little weird.
I apoligise if my reference to women as birds offended you. In Ireland and the UK we use the words 'Birds' quite freely in some areas when referring to women but in no way mean it in an offensive manner. Call it a regional dialect. I'm not saying it's the nicest word to call women but when we use it it's just part of our language.
And no competition in regards to our musical backgrounds, you have me beat hands down. I look back on my musical days with dread at some of the performances that would of probably been better off played out in the privacy of my own living room 🙂
Nah, it totally should be out of the living room! My cousin played in a band that often played in local bars, etc. It was always more of a garage band, but there's something really awesome about those types of bands. It's like raw emotion. lol. I certainly dislike any mentality people might have by saying that type of thing is somehow not music. It might not match up from a technical compositional stand point, but that doesn't matter or affect it's validity as music or an art form. In fact, that type of comparison should only be welcome in a more educational or professional adjudication, and nowhere else. I find those types of bands are wonderful displays of the human emotion. (Plus it must be a ton of fun to be apart of!!!)
I don't really participate in any type of musical medium any more, although I wish I did. Let's face it… it's fun to watch anyone on stage giving it their all. I definitely don't have that musical snobbery that someone like, say, my sister (following in mom's footsteps) has. Even my mom appreciates anything honest like that kind of band as music. ^.^ You should look back on those days with pride. How many people actually have the nuts to get up and do that without concern?
i played guitar hero 3…. dominated that game… then… got bored with it… and every other guitar hero after it.

I've been very interested in dj hero, but not the price tag that goes along with it. Now that this sequel is coming out, i think i might try to catch the first one as cheap as possible…
DJ Hero is a great game and a lot of fun to play. Too bad I'm boycotting all Activision products.

After the Infinity Ward fiasco and Bobby Kotick's bluster over the years, I had enough of their garbage.
Dude your better than me. I want to so bad but Iloved the first DJ Hero, GH3, GHWT, and Call of Duty. I was boycotting EA til I seen BBC2, Mirror's edge was the last game I bought. I f'n hate EA especially for buying the NFL rights cuz those dirty bastards knew 2K had a better game.
I could get back at them and have my way too by buying used games but this whole "online pass" thing is ridiculous. Then again, I have gamefly. If I keep and buy a newly released game, I'm good!
meh, sure it looks fun, but I never really got in to the whole music game fad, also all those things are really expensive and I get bored with 'em fairly quickly.
Ugh. Too bad the song selection sucks. They go for the big names and not quality. If they went with better songs then maybe I'd give this a try.
I see Lady Gaga in the tracklist. All of a sudden I want this a lot less.
On a similar note, I played Beatmania (PS1) on my friend's Japanese PS2 the other day. Compared to modern rhythm games, it's pretty unpolished (and much harder) but still a lot of fun. Best song in that game: Big Beat remix of the Metal Gear Solid theme song, which i surprisingly beat on my own.

Once her songs are in your head, they are catchy, and hard to get OUT of your head.
However, if Gaga is not your thing, you will be pleased to hear that I heard a sampling of her new stuff on the radio, and I think the runaway star of 2009 is crashing down to earth….IMO. Enjoy Alejandro, Ale-ale-jandro, Alejandro while you can, it might be her last hit for a spell.
In the case of Lady Gaga, I've heard one too many people mention how "embarrassed" they are to like her music. I don't blame them; I'd be embarrassed, too, if I liked this female rip-off of Ziggy Stardust.

New game studio all set to pump new life into music games.
Seven45 Studios announced Monday, its plans to revive the ailing music video game business with a new twist on Guitar Hero style games.
It's new game, "Power Gig: Rise of the SixString", uses a new kind of faux guitar with real strings, and a unique kind of drum set.

DJ Hero was quite fun actually, and in some cases seemed quite a bit more difficult than some of the GH series.
