Ben-DutkaVideo games have come a long way, and next to visual advancements, the strides taken in the realm of music and sound have been most significant in the industry.
This is why we have Video Games Live, and pretty soon, they will make their national premiere on PBS. As announced at their official site , they will be performing an "unprecedented lineup of the world's most beloved video game franchises" in a 90-minute Video Games Live special. Musical pieces from the likes of Mario , Zelda , Sonic , Halo , Final Fantasy , Castlevania , God of War , StarCraft , and others will be featured, along with a "musical journey through Classic Gaming." The concert will air on July 31 and run throughout August on PBS stations, and the CD and DVD/Blu-Ray will also be available in North America exclusively through PBS until November 1. The CD will let you listen to no less than 16 musical performances and the DVD/Blu-Ray features over three full hours of bonus material, including "additional and extended music segments, composer and game developer interviews, exclusive game trailers," and more. Said veteran video game composer and Video Games Live CEO/Executive Producer Tommy Tallarico:
"I’m hoping that this project will have a very positive impact on the perception of video games by the non-gaming world. The reason we created Video Games Live over eight years ago was to prove to the world how culturally significant and artistic video games have become. The goal was to create a show for everyone whether they play games or not. The fact that all of the game publishers have come on board with this project to help our mission says a lot about the future of gaming and how much they believe in Video Games Live."

lol nightmar the comment above urs is kinda like my OT well now on 2 the music i,ll b sure 2 watch this not sure how im in australia might get it if im lucky i like orchestra music 4 games saw a show on it b4 they played one winged angel lol my fav gaming song i actually prefer the 8 – bit version lol more memories what your fav gaming song guys ???? RDR comes a close second after one winged angel lol just noticed the blue ray bit WIN wat price is expected 4 it buying blue rays is expensive here

This is great, and it will help to bring more family's together on the concept of mainsteaming the video games industry.
I definitely want to go out & catch one of their shows.
It would also be great if once they're all done their tour, that they will keep going out on new tours of updated music with all new current titles out.

If the blu-rays work on my PS3 in Australia, I might just be tempted to order one.
'Bout damn time video games got the positive recognition they deserve. Whoever says they're not art should go to a developer and check out the sketches, sculptures, digital recreations, motion-cap rooms, sound effect rooms and music halls that are used to to create these games.
People who say video games aren't art make me sick, they clearly have mouths bigger than their brains. Either that or they're just ignorant and ignore facts to further their own personal argument. And now cue the Xbots.

I like the idea of Video Games Live and think that it might actually work, as far as bringing the non-gaming world to realize how much interactive entertainment has become a part of standard modern culture and how it has actually helped in the way of providing jobs, progressing music, and enhancing the technology available to the public.
