Last year's Red Faction: Guerrilla was one of the best action/adventure experiences of the generation, so our expectations are high for the follow-up.
It will be known as Red Faction: Armageddon and not only will it boast many of the features that made its predecessor such a big hit with gamers, it will also be a direct sequel. According to fresh details , the main character will be Darius Mason, the grandson of Guerrilla predecessor Alec Mason and Mars faces a brand new threat: after the planet's new Terraformer breaks down, the colonists are forced to move underground to escape the barren wasteland. Mason is forced to become a miner/scavenger and on one of his trips to the surface to scrounge up some essentials, he accidentally releases a "long-dormant evil" that is, unsurprisingly, alien in nature. The rest of the features are as follows:
Gotta love that GeoMod technology, huh? Red Faction: Armageddon is slated to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC next March. If you missed out on Guerrilla and love the idea of Grand Theft Auto on a foreign planet with a ton of environmental destructibility, you'll have yourself a ball.

Hmmmmm . . . meh.
Guerrilla was a ton of fun – all other games seem to be lacking something once you get used to the destructible environments in that game. This new one is looking really cool, like it's got some horror elements to it. Definitely looking forward to it.
I agree it was a ton of fun, one of the surprises of 2009 for me. however I gotta admit that after I got around 2/3 into the game it all started to get pretty old and repetitious. I never finished Guerilla because of that. Up until that point it was a cool ride though, and well worth the buy.
Red Faction Guerilla was fun, but nothing overly memorable. Destruction missions and minigames were fun.
I traded my copy towards Heavy Rain. With the likes of Just Cause 2, my open world destruction fun has been filled.
Might hire it. Or wait for a price drop.
I believe Game Informer had an article on the trouble and danger of sequels, especially when used too much while changing very little. Red Faction may fall under that category soon, unless they bring something more to the table than just shoot this, destroy this and run here.
COD hit the sequel problem with MW2,and it's only going to get worse. New IPs is where the money is at. Sony has got the right idea. And what new IP does Microsoft have to offer?
Looking forward to E3 now, just to see MS fail on the gaming side. They will do the usual showcase of multiplat games, pay celebrities to show off natal, make a big hoohah over Halo Reach, Gears 3 and Fable 3, and that will be that. I wouldn't be surprised if MS's surprise was the taking of another exclusive from Nintendo or Sony, along with copying 3D from Sony's efforts. They'll just blow steam and say their's is better, as usual. No wonder there's so many loud mouth Xbots, MS encouraged that mentality!!! Frickin' Microsoft killing the business.
Phew, sorry, that's my rant for today.
I still have yet to bust out the latest Red Faction, which according to many people was a diamond in the rough. This one could be fun, the destruction I hear is astounding, but honestly the cave setting leaves me to agree with World, meh.
On the other hand, Crysis 2 is coming a long nicely, and reading the new about how the PS3 version us performing better(duh) I am intrigued.
The demo turned me off, I know it shouldn't but I hope the full game was better than that.
Guerilla sells for $20 and I still can't bring myself to buy it. Why IS that??
Alienange,
It's because you are broke & don't have $20.
LOL
BTW, I'll probably be broke when this comes out, but I still want it….
and I know why that is(I like the RF series)
Seems worth a Fiver.
Sounds like it will be more like the first game, a personal favorite of mine.
Geo Mod sounds awesome, and some of the abilities shown in the trailer look like they have a good amount potential. Hopefully we'll hear more at E3
games are supposed to be fun and red faction was fun, well worth the 20 bucks it costs now and I'll be keeping my eyes open for the sequel
i really cant wait for this that teaser trailer looked amazing!!!
im happy to see this go back to the underground confined areas of the series, instead of the open world RFG.
nice to see geo mods back, thats what really made the game shine!
destroying buildings and seeing bits of concrete and metal fly off so realistically is just so much fun!!!
and honestly, who does not like walking through buildings?????
It's nice to see red faction returning to the tunnels like the original. I really hope this game doesn't flop because RFG was great even though some people didn't appreciate it. My only complaint is that I want to shoot at EDF not just aliens, and if there is no EDF than maybe something like aliens with guns. -IMO-
I thoroughly enjoyed RFG. And am of course looking forward to this one. The game wasn't perfect, but the Geo Mod engine did make it a little unique. If they amp up the engine even more and maybe throw a story line in the mix I'll be plenty pleased.
Hell I might even go as far to make this a D1P!!
When Red Faction returns to being a FPS, I'll return to it as a fan.
I'm so sick of these open-world, mission-based games. If THQ wanted GTA on Mars, they should've created a new franchise.
