It just has to be one of the coolest special editions we've seen, and it's bound to appeal to role-playing fans everywhere. …too bad only those in PAL regions will get a shot at it.
According to Electronic Theatre , Namco Bandai has revealed the details of the upcoming Demon's Souls: Black Phantom Edition , set to be released in PAL regions on June 25. This great collector's set includes a brand new hardcover art book loaded with concept and game art, a strategy guide, and the original soundtrack, and although the source doesn't list a price, we have to imagine it's not exactly cheap. But at the same time, it's very likely that RPG fans in Europe and elsewhere have been waiting anxiously to get their hands on what is widely considered to be one of the best role-playing experiences of the generation. Fans in Japan and North America will absolutely defend it to the death, so that should say something. Sure, it's challenging – and some will say, "overly difficult" – but if you don't mind dying a lot, and you intend to be patient and vigilant, the rewards will be great.
Well, we know what RPG aficionados will be doing in a few weeks time: lining up for Demon's Souls . Too bad From Software says they won't be doing a sequel.
Although it is a pipe dream, I keep hoping for a patch to the game that will offer dificulty levels.
And I know people argue that it is not that hard, but whatever, it is overly difficult in my eyes. I want to enjoy the game all the way through, but for a game to continually frustrate me, I just don't have the motivation to continue when I have so many other great games to play that don't beg me to slit my wrists.
I with you 100%.
You are with me 100%? Good. Then let it be said, you and I will take over the world! Moohoowaaaaahhaaaahaa!!
I'm busy this weekend, how does next week look for you?
Im good with computers, can i help?
OT: looks pretty nice, and it sure will make the euro rpg-ers happy… im just not too interested. i care about a euro version of the new vegas collector's edition. poker chips… mmm…
Agreed actually
But also… a patch to sell equips you don't care about 'cause souls…. ahem – you play into a level, get far into it, die, souls gone, you have 0 money so you really can't buy any replacement pots/that thing against plague/poison which I struggled with…. then your journey back with your weakened character = higher chance of death = souls gone!
MyWorstNightmar,
I remember "World" also saying something to the effect of how hard it was, so I believe he'd also "third" your emotion.
This has been known for quite some time now actually. The price is cheaper than what it costs to import the american game, but not by much. Converting from SEK (swedish currency) to USD makes it about $65.
It's not that bad… the phantoms are there for a reason. so you can summon them and they can help you. hell when I play I stay dead and just keep going to others ppls worldsa and beat their stuff, come back to life and kill myself again. That's how you lvl up. It's can be tedious sometimes but that game is phenomenal.
It is about time the Euro's got hooked up with clearly a better version.
Does anyone know what region-code the EU-version will have. You see, I'm gonna buy this game for a friend and I want to join him in multiplayer. It says on my cover that it's region one, will I be able to play with him if I buy him the EU-version?
Not really
The game runs in a game-specific server
ATLUS runs the server for the US version
Sony runs the one for Japan/Asia
Namco-Bandai will probably run the one for Europe
PS: I can't play against those who bought the Asia/Japan version. But I know some who have bought the Asia/Japan version who can connect to their servers.
European gamers can be happy with that.
By the way Demon's Souls is 29.99 at Amazon today. Looks like a good deal for those who are interested.
Offer this with selectable difficulty levels, and I'll buy this day one.
Heck, patch the current game, and I'll buy it immeadiately as well!
🙁
If you get the game and play it for at least 10 hours you will realize how important the difficulty of the game is.
It's actually part of the game's story.
You really can't take it out of the equation.
Scarecrow, I want to believe you, but I have a sneaking suspicion that after 10 hours of play, I will be no further than I was after 1 hour of play.
Think of what I could do with that same 10 hours? I could play through both single player experiences of MW1 and MW2. Or Alienange could come over to my house and we could watch Avatar three times in a row! Just like last weekend eh Alienange? Good times.
The level of satisfaction is different
MW1/MW2 is twitch gaming
Sudden bursts of satisfaction
"OMG I got a kill, yaaaaaaaay."
VS
"I summoned 2 blue phantoms who guarded me against a deadly black phantom and then we took out that insane witch in the Tower of Latria. That was no easy feat!"
That's the purpose of an rpg, to overcome the most daunting of situations.
You really can't compare what you do in a FPS VS what you do you do in an rpg.
Mentioning Avatar is even worse.
PS: Nothing personal

Scarecrow, hey, I get it, the game sounds utterly amazing. But the few hours I gave to it, I just struggle with it badly.
One of these days, one of these days, I will get to it.
Well, no excuses now. Get the game if you have the guts!
Seriously though, it wasn't the 2009 rpg for no reason.
and GOTY at gamespot
How much are they charging us for a game the USA got last year? I'm not paying extra even if it is special edition. It's just not happening.
Mine.
Wow at some of the comments. People actually seem to think that practice doesn't help. I was much better at this game after I had played it for several hours.
One important thing for Demon's souls is to find your play style. Most people, myself included, instantly create a knight character because its and rpg and in rpgs you often play as a knight.
However on Demon's souls, knight is one of the hardest starting classes there is. You can barely move because your armor is too heavy and you are as slow as a 4,000 pound man in his recliner covered in potato chips.
I switched to a class with no armor and I found it to be a lot easier, easier to jump outta the way. Aaah demon's souls gets easier the longer you play it really. What a great game, lucky europeans.
Yeah I made a knight, big mistake.
The hardcore fans can always import.
I might, I might 😉
I might just get the European version to play with/against the Europeans
there ya go.
i'm from the UK…we've known about this for about 2 months now =/ was revealed by NB ages ago =/ you're a little behind…
THIS GAME ROCKS! I've had like 7 different characters from the KEEL smasher build to a mage build or a pure priest build! So much fun. I tried to look for another good RPG and bought dragon age origins. AND MAN WAS I DISAPPOINTED! after 6 hours of playing it i just dropped it and never played it again. Like the places are SOSOSO small the enemies are TOO EZ(i dont even know what i was doing). Like every 40 steps a message appears "GATHER YOUR PARTY AND VENTURE FORTH". And goes fast travel to the other city. So so disappointed. Anyweiz, for those who haven't gotten Demon Souls, GET THIS GAME ALREADY!
Australia is getting this as well so I am ready to be brutalised!
I usually play most games on easy but Demon's Souls has been on my must buy list for ages.
Good to see Europe and Australia get some special edition love. It's $89 here instead of the usual $109 so I hope it does well.
Awesome news Ben, though I already knew about it. I'm curious though, will it be available in wide release or strictly limited because you see, the local games store is well, let me just say, not the best. Because I read somewhere that only the Black Phantom Edition is being released here, and that worries me. I want this damn game, even though the only RPGs I've played prior are Fallout 3 and Oblivion, I'm prepared to be taught tough love.
Peace.
Bought.
@worldendswithme, you really need to give this game more time. The learning curve is high but the reward is immense. The Knight is a big mistake, try using the Royal. His soul light spell will get you through the first level. If you can get adept at doing a reposte, you will pwn any knight.
Australia too? My buddy has been urging me to get the Japanese version for 4 platinums, 5 is just over the top insane.
This is exactly the same as the collectors edition that was released here in the states. The cover art just has a red hue to it.
The strategy guide is small, but it was a huge help.
Ok you guys need to buy the hell out of this so there is enough interest that they decide to indeed make a sequel or at least make some DLC… regardless though you should buy this game as it is excellent.
Glad to see the PAL region has something to gloat about.
But,….. so does the USA & Canada now too….
FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY,
According to the email they just sent me, the developer Atlus is giving everyone the regular version of "Demon Souls", for only $29.99
And you can grab this deal from any of the USA or Canadian Gamestops, Amazons, or online from GoGamer too
I unfortunatley have yet to take this game online… I also have yet to venture to anywhere else but Stonefang mines T^T I've died very little and I play often but some sliver of fear is keeping me from moving on lol, thank the heavens PAL regions get to suffer through this amazing game with us ^_^
Online makes all of the difference. I made it about halfway through by myself, but co-op'd the second half. Playing co-op makes it a lot more fun and it's a little easier.
I've already preordered it here is Australia.
And it's the same price as the standard edition. Hip Hip Hooray!!!! $89.95 AU. 20 bucks cheaper than most other new release games here.
sorry, but i dont buy 12 month old games.
wonder when 3D dot game heros will be released here?
oh well im just happy joe danger will be out next week.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
aparently earthworm jim is suppose to be on XBLA next week too, i sure hope so!!!
i would love to buy the 30 dollar version but im scared i will never finish the game cuz i need lots of retries to learn something LOL
HAHAH, an ad? no im no advertiser, i have just been thinking about this game,LOL i guess it does sound like an ad…..check through all my comments im no advertiser
Please, don't do this here. Don't turn into IGN and have people advertise their stuff on the comments threads of a gaming website.
Ben, is this guy a certified advertiser for this website, or some random trying to sell their wares for free?
If it's the latter, please ditch fast.
I love the comments section on PSXextreme. Lets not bring it down with website advertisers.
