Ben-DutkaPerhaps in order to squeeze even more out of the series, Warner Bros. Pictures intends to turn the last film installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," into two parts. It's slated to come out in November and in following the same trend, the gaming division for Warner Bros. will take a two-part approach to the interactive version.
As reported by GameSpot , Warner Bros. Interactive and Electronic Arts have announced Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, DS, PC and mobile devices. And while Part 1 of the game will launch alongside Part 1 of the movie, you can expect the same process to happen when Part 2 drops in 2011. EA's Bright Light Studio will handle development responsibilities and according to project lead Jonathan Bunney, this new Potter adventure will be "darker and more action-oriented;" for instance, those protective walls of the standard Hogwarts School will disappear. Young players will strike out on a quest to locate and defeat Voldemort's Horcruxes, which means enemies like Death Eaters and Snatchers will be included in the perilous adventure. Certain recent installments haven't really been up to snuff, although they typically show plenty of potential on the surface. They just need to solidify the control and give us a bit more to do; if Bright Light can manage that, perhaps this new effort will be well worth it for fans of J.K. Rowling's smash franchise.
But doesn't she have quite enough money by now? Maybe if we give the game a 10, she'll fork over .000001% of her fortune, which is probably still around a trillion dollars.

I like the books and movies. I only read the first few of the books though. I have too big a back log of books to read to devote the time to them when I can just watch the movies.
I don't take them too seriously, and enjoy them for what they are. I support science fiction movies that are well made. And by well made, I mean a lot of effort goes into them, and the acting is passable for the type of movies they are.
Now, the Twilight movies are a disgrace. I call it chick porn. Very little effort put into a franchise that will bring in bucket loads of money from romance deprived women of all ages. The money will pour in whether they make a quality film or not.
The Harry Potter movies could EASILY do that becuase they have a built in audience, but I commend them for going the extra mile to put out quality by putting forth maximum effort and not skimping on financial budgets.

I blame Harry Potter movies for putting the kabash on what Lord of the Rings accomplished in bringing a fantasy setting out of the children's realm.
World, by your last comment of "kabash" or kibash, do you mean stopping the momentum of what LOTR started? How so? The industry will continue to put out more stories and movies. Good or bad product, it will still come and hopefully continue to evolve.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice looks promising. Not sure what to think of The Last Airbender. I think they are going to come out with a Hobbit movie.

I for one hope The Last Airbender is good. Or should I say, I hope the real Avatar movie is better than that fake one we had a few months back.
Actually World. I must admit that the Quidditch was actually a decent game.
Studios interested in fantasy settings were influenced by the commercial success and relative simplicity of Harry Potter (Which is a bastardization of a number of previous works) to put their money into other less well developed literature in hopes of appealing to children who force their parents to take them to the movie instead of the pursuit of a triumph in film-making that stimulates the intellect and imagination of a wider coss-section of ages.
My only hope is that they find a way to make something out of The Wheel of Time series, though I don't know how they could squeeze all that even into 3 3-hour movies like LOTR did.
World, I like that explanation better that your kabash one, that was something I can sink my teeth into.
Most stories that have been written within the last 20 years have been influenced, and closely resemble ideas of past works. It is inevitable. It is hard to truelly come up with a unique idea anymore.
The Lord of the Rings was published in the 40's or 50's? Not sure exactly what year. So, you could likely very correctly claim that the story elements within it are "original" elements.
I think Harry Potter succeeds in fostering imagination, and I think that's a good thing.
I suppose so, it's hard to make anything new these days, but I like the way Tolkien tackled his subject as a fictional history of Britain, and so drew upon those legends of elves, his own experiences in WWI and even heavily upon Christianity.
I also die a little inside every time I see that commercial for Universal Studios where the kids point twigs at each other.
I used to get herbally inspired and play some Harry Potter game for PS2, I was really into beating every game ever.

Well of course they're splitting the movies and games in two. You see the size of that last book? What started off as a small kids book sure turned into one long yarn.
But you gotta admit, like most books -> movies, they cut alot of content from the books to make the movies.
But in the end it's ALL about money.

I dunno, I think Harry Potter, for what it is… does the job in re-kindling the imagination of the young ones; and getting them back to reading something in books, rather than staring all day long at a TV watching cartoons. I think most of the Potter films achieved what they set out to do, to bring the Rawlings story universe to life… some better than others…
Again, I never take these productions to seriously, and really, it is entertainment… supposed to enjoy the ride and take you away from the everyday mundane of life and issues everyone of us have to deal with…
It's an attitude thing, take things with a pinch of salt and don't get down or negative about these things, just enjoy what you enjoy… and I am sure something will come along to light your imagination too…
Warner's corporate milking of the franchise, on the other hand, is incredible… two forcefully split a story that could be told in one sitting, into 2 films is incredible… its thievery right in front of your eyes… They will make double at the box office, and the game follow ups will doubly fail too…

I agree Qubex. It got alot of kids reading really big books. I may not be a kid, but this series got me reading non-medical books for the first time since my mandatory english lit classes in college….and I really liked the books.
World – I can see where you say that parts of the story are a bastardization of previous works…but she really did do a good job of creating another wizard culture; not so much another world….but she did come up with an entirely new sport (so that's pretty cool).
it would be pretty cool if the "PS Move" could be used as the wand…lol but it should be better than the last few games i hope…
i actually really enjoy the pot head titles.
im really looking forward to the lego title, and of course toy story 3.
every time i watch a trailer of toy story 3 it makes me feel 10 again! nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than that.
Comparing Potter to LOTR is like comparing Chaucer to Dr Suess. However, Potter serves it's purpose as a light indulgent read and helps to get kids into books.
As far as 2 installments, it is perfectly understandable. The Deathly Hallows is a rather long title that is packed with action and many events. They could save up the Grand Finale for the last book and still have plenty to tell. It would be hard to put a game out that didn't follow that sequence too.
I have never played the games to the movies and don't plan on starting now, but I do love me some Potter. The movies are a release day midnight showing for me.
Although I think that the books and movies can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike, I think that the game would only appeal to a younger audience. Which is why I really don't care about another harry potter video game.
