Fifth Devil May Cry Not On Capcom’s Future Schedule

The rumors of a fifth Devil May Cry have been circulating for several months now but Capcom apparently doesn't see it in the near future.

The most recent rumor centered on Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory; it's a common belief that Capcom tapped the talented action game designer to handle the next DMC entry, even though it's well known that Ninja Theory is hard at work on Enslaved . Despite that, the rumor-mongers continue their attempts to convince the doubters; they say the developer in question is actually working on both projects simultaneously. We've even heard that DMC5 might surprise everyone by exploding at E3 in a few weeks time, but according to Connected Consoles citing the latest edition of PSM3 magazine, the rumor has taken a hit. "The Insider" section of the publication says a US source reiterates that Ninja Theory is working on the fifth Dante adventure, but it's not on Capcom's two-year schedule. So yeah, if it does pop up at E3, it will most certainly be a surprise at this point.

And don't be casting aspersions on the awesome DMC franchise. With the exception of the second title, these games always kicked ass…so somebody had best do another one!

NO this sucks so bad :(. I always thought it was something they would continue with after the whole multiplat thing. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully that statement is just their to sway our hopes 😉 I'm right, right Capcom? They have been on a role with customer satisfaction if I may say so myself. I'll just have to do with MvC3 which is probably the top game on my list today. Loved the first one.

I'm still angry that my copy of DMC4 is useless thanks to the saving problem. Hello Crapcom you should have had a patch to fix that ages ago.

While I do still like the series, it would look totally weird with the Heavenly Sword look that Ninja Theory does so well.

That's tragic, World. Although I didn't experience that issue, it's a pretty darn good hack'n-slash game. Not nearly as cool as DMC3se (Vergil is my favorite playable character in the franchise and even the genre), and although it is not my favorite of the genre, but still it's an awesome multiplatform effort.

Ninja Theory is, no doubt, a very talented team, but I still expect Japanese to be kings of the genre, just like Western studio's own FPS's. I'm sure there are exceptions, but it's kind of like how I'd rather have Asian food from an Asian restaurant, rather than from a Western one, ya know?

I played DMC3 and I loved how damn hard it was, but I haven't touched DMC4, should I get one?

i'd say "do it", although not as great as 3, it has its good moments, and it must be somewhat cheap by now, wouldnt it?

Catastrophe is 100% right on that. The 3rd still holds the best spot in the franchise but 4 was no slouch. I think you might be slightly disappointed with the direction they took in this one (no REAL Dante). Whoever played and enjoyed the series up until 4 should know what I'm talking about. Either way it's still a terrific game by today's standards.

No aspersions on the DMC franchise, but watch for the Capcom haters to make an appearance.

I use to think the same thing, but they all have their place (even DMC2 though it was clearly the weakest IMO and INTOOM). DMC3se at first seemed like a disappointing departure from the first, but after playing it through and through, it definitely has the best action and style of the franchise. The visuals were not as polished, but it traded that with supreme on-screen action and activity (The ending boss fight with Vergil on DMD mode was INSANE and remains my favorite boss fight of all time). Sure it was a bit nauseatingly emo for some, but I thought the cutscenes were rockin' in terms of choreography and style

What I could play of DMC4 before the save issue made it impossible to go further told me I very much liked the claw, you could break out some sweet combos with that thing.

Edit: And I don't know why people dislike Nero so much, he's just a Dante Jr.

Well, I didn't dislike him. It's just that his "Slam dunk!!" banter was annoying compared to the Vergils's "Dieeee" and "Scummmm" kill-lines, which were ice-cold and ace.

I actually thought Nero's resurrection/possession scene was hair-raisingly cool.

I don't know what's worse. That comment or the fact that I laughed. Both it's a tie.

It's a shame another DMC won't be coming out, at least for now, but Unleashed might be something to really look forward to based on the quality of the other games they've done.

Oh, dangnabbit. I just typed a bunch of words and hit send without checking that I was connected. Oh well, I'll try to cut the crap this time.
Not particularly interested in DMC5 unless they promise to bring back the difficulty of 3, regardless of who develops it. I rented 3 for a week, got to level 7, then bought 4 and was very much let down. I don't know why, I'm always disappointed by franchises I've played on PS2 to PS3. More on that later.
As far as Ninja Theory go, they've proven they deserve my money with HS, and besides Enslaved reminds me of ICO in many respects which garners my immediate interest. (Incidentally I got ICO from the local video store for AU$20. FOR THE WIN!)

why doesn't this suprise me? If bayonetta demonstrated anything, its the fact the genre have overplayed itself.

Perhaps they could remake DMC 1&3 in HD, man did I love DMC3, it was pretty good. I could have sworn another Developer was working on the next DMC. Possibly Ninja Theory?
