Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Slips Past Holidays Into March

"Due to a very competitive environment" has been a common reason for delaying titles recently, and Ubisoft is using it again.

This time, it's for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier , which was initially supposed to launch later this year. But during a recent investor's briefing, CEO Yves Guillemot announced that this new installment in the critically acclaimed franchise wouldn't make it in 2010. According to Joystiq , Ubisoft wants to give the developers an appropriate amount of extra time to fully realize their ambitious vision. Said Guillemot:

"Due to a very competitive environment, we decided to move the game out of the Christmas quarter, and into the March quarter. It will also provide additional time to our development teams to realize their vision."

As the site further notes, we can't help but remember the last holiday season, when multiple major titles were pushed out of the holiday season to avoid the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , Assassin's Creed II, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves . …well, mostly MW2. And once again, we're already starting to see plenty of potential blockbusters lined up for the fourth quarter; Medal of Honor , LittleBigPlanet 2 , Call of Duty: Black Ops , Gran Turismo 5 , etc. So slightly lesser – yet still large – games may have to take a back seat…and this obviously includes Future Soldier .

Hah! Wusses, hiding for the awesome Playstation exclusives coming up.
I don't know why they'd do that just because of the competition, unless of course they don't think much of their own game. But big titles will come out next year too, so if they just move it because of the competition, they can keep moving it for ever, and ever, and such.

It's all about business… if they release at the time of hugely definite blockbusters, they know there will be less people who are going to put money to their game becaue the consumers are going to spend it on other stuff. i dont know many people that can afford to get 4/5 games in one go. and this christmas looks like its going to be like that again, last year, any less than huge title would have faced competition with MW2, and thats the same this year, but there are more huge titles.

GT5, LBP2, COD:BO (you can tell this one will go down a blast, even if it isn't all that good) and Medal of Honour (tbh, this and COD7 are gonna battle it out on the shooter front this christmas, so i really can't see much space for Future Soldier)

You release when consumers can buy, because its ultimately all about the customer (although i don't know Activision thinks so)

Well, there are a few pro's and con's to this, but I think that its a good idea to make the game bit better before its release. Giving more time helps studios a lot you know, also creates a good game.

<<<<It will also provide additional time to our development teams to realize their vision>>>>

Yeah, but in the same token…this also gives Ubisoft much more time to chop the game apart in order to soak our wallets on in-game DLC, like they did to the 2 chapters of AC2.

To Ubisoft:
Research the word…."integrity"

what do u guys do when your at the movies, and the movie just finished????

i wait for everyone else to leave, and just get my things together

its perfectly fine to wait it out, most people will get over COD and MOH, and searching for a new shooter, and Ghost Recon falls right into that time frame

dachemists,
When I used to go to the movies,I always watched till after all the credits were over, cause that's usually where any bloopers & out-takes were usually shown.

Plus, I can also find my wheels easier, & make a less stressful get-away out of the parking lot.

Lets be honest its mainly because of Halo Reach that Ghost Recon is running into 2011.I suppose GT5 has a hand in it as well but they're different genres and thats an exclusive so I don't think it counts that much
