Konami Says “No” To Move Capability In Castlevania

Many PlayStation 3 fans have long since said the Wii was more of a gimmick, so the question is, do they view the PlayStation Move in the same light?

Well, Konami producer Dave Cox does. In a recent GamesTM interview – as cited by NowGamer – he explains why the team turned down PlayStation Move compatibility for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow . Now, before reading his quote, bear in mind that a technology like Move would be automatically better suited to certain games and genres…and Lords of Shadow might not be one of them. Said Cox:

"We were given access to Move a few months ago, to test with the game. We looked at it but we felt that, at that point in development, it would be more of a gimmick than a feature. So we decided against using Move. Purely because we want a game in which you can take the combat seriously. As you’ve seen, the combat is quite deep and waving the PlayStation Move around the living room just wouldn’t be right. I think it would be a cheap marketing ploy."

That's a frank summary of what we often think of when we consider the Move. On the other hand, we've also seen Sony's new motion-sensing technology do some pretty nifty stuff; stuff the Wii really couldn't do in a million years. That remains the primary reason why we're interested in testing it out later this year. But for straight-up action games like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow , I would prefer to stick to the traditional controller…not sure about you guys.

Well, at least every game developer on the face of earth isn't jumping on this like their game absolutely have to have it.

The Wii has games that don't demand the use of motion technology, though few and far between, so why is it that now Move and Natal are on the horizon people feel like every game that is coming out needs to utilise these technologies?

Well, that's nice, wonder whether they ever said that to the folks at Nintendo about their Wii?

I don't think Castlevania would be much playable, or at least easy playable with the Move, so i don't mind, I don't even know if I'm going to get the Move at all.
I mean it looks awesome, and has a lot of potential, but they really need many awesome hardcore games to pull me over.

Now while I plan on buying Move day one, I only plan on using it for a few games anyways.

Max, did you get your two copies of RDR yet? If not, Toys R Us has a killer deal right now.

This news makes me happy. I'm glad they didn't forcefully add it. Maybe if they were just now in early development stages, but it's already being worked on. There is no reason to add this feature.

Although the Move does look good, I don't see a reason why most games should 'have' to have it. I really can't say until the Move comes out and I try it though. I'm a little excited about, I hope Move will be what it's said to be.

maybe they can add it as a option so you can it ON or OFF. so its not mandatory.

I'm fairly certain that if you gave Nintendo a "million years" they could duplicate what the Move does. =)

I'll be definitely be getting the move, though probably not right away.

But I still hope that if a game IS Move supported, the developer should also give us the 2nd option in order to use the Dualshock-3 too if we decide we don't like the Move on that game

I think the move will be a success if sony can market it enough. The guy from the gadget showed us you can put top spin on tennis with move, something not possible with the Wii.

I understand what Konami are saying to an extent. They are trying to make a solid game, and to implement move, you'd want it feeling intergrated, not like a gimmick. but once it releases, developers cant use this as an excuse, because they'll have had lots of time to get in sync with it.

I have absolutely no problem with that. You wouldn't want to make a game that is using Move as a gimmick. It cheapens both your game and the Move.

Weird since I'm saying no to this iteration of Castlvania due to it looking too "God of War-y."

I agree sometimes however I also believe in making games that do thing's differently like Heavy Rain, not all clones are bad if that was the case we wouldn't have a lot of games today. But Castlevania has always been a great series why change what it does to fit an aesthetic that's been done to death?

This man talks sense. I fully expect Natal to try to weasel its way into every single game even if it works very poorly.

Well I am really excited to use move, but that doesn't mean every game needs it. Honestly some games would get old and exhaustive trying to use move with them. A fighting game? I'd be done after 1 fight, a game like castlevania is another prime example, too tiring.

Plus I think most of them should have the option of ds3 or move, cause some days I want to hop around my living room cutting peoples arms off with raging fury, and other days I just want to cut them while I relax on the couch, either way tho, you must bleed.
