If you were an action fan, you likely had a blast with Dante's Inferno , which proved to be a decent distraction until God of War III launched a month later.
And we'd say Visceral's solid title definitely deserves another go, which is why we're excited to see the studio may already be hard at work on a sequel. As noted by Connected Consoles , a few job listings hit strongly at the idea of Dante's Inferno 2 . The first job – through that link – is for a Lead Character Artist "for an existing action/adventure franchise," and it even adds something a bit more concrete: "The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre." Other listings include an Environment Artist and Senior Animator although there's not much in those descriptions that spills the beans. According to EA's latest sales figures , Dante's Inferno is currently flirting with the 1 million mark, which should be enough to warrant a sequel. Besides, if they work out a few small kinks, DI2 could be one of the better action experiences of the generation.
Furthermore, we're willing to bet you'd see this sequel long before you'd see another God of War ; SCEA Santa Monica has already said many times they'll be taking a break from the series, and we're not even sure if Kratos and the Greek mythological theme will return. So perhaps Visceral and EA can take advantage of the lull.
"The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre."
Umm, what?
I don't think that unless they're going to make it a PS3 exclusive and take a whole lot of time in developing it, this will happen.
Didn't buy dante's inferno, seeing as I thought it wasn't worth my money, and I doubt that idea will change for the second game.
It is worth a rental.
You see that Ninja Theory? When you sell a million you're supposed to immediately start working on a sequel. Well… that's how the big boys do it anyways.
They know what they have to copy after seeing God of War III.
lol, nice burn!
Yes, that was funny, but good point!
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
@Qubex
You said pee… LOL
wow, can't wait to see how they stretch Dante's masterpiece even further to make way for this.
I've always wondered: Who buys the PSP version of games such as this?? Unless they dont have a console, it just seems like youre getting the lesser game.
The PSP version was surprisingly good…
It felt like playing Chains of Olympus and the graphics were on par to it or even better. Plus the cheaper price tag did the trick.
I was really saving up for many other titles when that thing came out… lol
Half way off topic I suppose but what is the name of the site that lets people buy and sell games and movies and books. It is kind of like ebay but dedicated to the things I just mentioned and it has been mentioned several times here in the comments. I am looking to buy this from there since the prices are reasonable and it gives you the condition of the game.
Thanks.
Wasn't it Glyde dot com?
You sir are the bee's knees. Thanks.
I got a movie from glyde, it was the smoothest thing I've ever done and came quick.
You're welcome. 🙂
I hope there are some great monsters in this one. D.I. had some tame stuff in there. Nothing shocking.
I thought Cerberus was a wonderfully disgusting masterpiece.
It was more cute than disgusting.
cute?
WTF?
i really did not like Cerberus, they strayed to far away from the whole hell theme.
i thought Cerberus was suppose to be the gardian of hell.
so why is he half way through the game?
and since when does he have 3 heads?
best boss battle has to be the judge of the dead, the finisher OFMG was so gruesome i was picking up pieces of myself for weeks!
Cleo's chest was anything but tame…
The first one didn't really grab my attention, so lets hope this one is a step up instead of a step sideways like most sequels to average games.
… I can imagine World leaping and screaming with joy when he hears about this.
He already did.
It's true, I blew a load.
1st one was good but a far cry from GoW 3. Hopefully they take time to iron out the next one a little more. It was fun but ne one who played GoW got the whole rip off feeling while playing, the atmosphere was great though.
And there was a slight typo possibly….." a few job listings hit strongly at the idea of Dante's Inferno 2."
Hit instead of hint. 😉
This is one of the better games I've played, so this is some good news if proven true! Just started playing Trials of St.Lucia and I am enjoying the hell out of it. I would like Visceral to focus less on framerate and more on textures for the sequel though. The environments for first were amazing and would have been absolutely stunning if they were a little cleaner and sharper.
Hes going back to hell?
no, he moves up to Purgatory, where there is another plethora of crazy sh*t in Dante Alighieri's masterpiece.

how are they going to render GOD in the third one? that's assuming they make a third and complete the trilogy. paradiso, i believe…and it's in outer space!
Dead Space, that's paradiso ;D LOL
This will be awesome. Dante's Inferno 2 epicness.
Dante's Inferno is like GOW III but with Christan Mythology than Greek. But still good.
To bad it's for Xbox 360 it's the closet they will ever know to GOW III
with god of war done, this is a good time to get a sequel out. theres the fans of the first game like world and those god of war fans waiting for their next action game.
Couldnt spare my £'s on this cause GOW:III was coming out but its good to hear Dante's got a sequel. I know its a pretty solid game overall
Yes I'm very happy, even though they already confirmed this in the ending and extras of the first game it's good to see it moving along quickly. Visceral is quickly becoming my favorite multiplat studio with this and Dead Space.
If you wonder why I defend this game so much over GOW it's just because the environments are a feast for the eyes, your weapons have actual impact, the platforming is better, the character is heavy and the controls are tight, as opposed to Kratos who is pretty loose and almost as light as Bayonetta and operates in a plain grey Hades almost exclusively. I love GOW and Kratos, I have all 3 games, but I felt the character was one dimensional. I'll accept any flames for that.
That said, I still want one of those Crosses!

Even with the cliffhanger at the end of Dante's Inferno I was still worried Visceral wouldn't make a sequel. It wasn't selling that well out the gate and worried me it wouldn't surpass the million sold mark.
With Dead Space and Dante's Inferno IPs Visceral is hands-down my favorite multiplat Developer.

World, I agree with Kratos not having much layers to him, but as a great admirer of the masterpiece that is Dante's Devine Comedy, God of War still gives an emotional punch quite often, the greatness of the source material, is completely lost in Dante.
In other words, I'll take the simple, but well executed tales of Kratos, over the mutation of Dante any day. I tried to play it, but the ridiculousness of Dante's Inferno as a game was just too much.
well its not for everybody, I understand. I did get a couple emotional punches out of Kratos too, but the story of a man confronting Sins that he once deemed necessary via a journey through hell rings personally with me. So of course I'll have my opinions. Besides, who wouldn't want to be the one that consigns Pontius Pilate to everlasting torment?
Smokey I do enjoy Greek Mythology, but c'mon, GOW warped the hell out of that too.

@World
I could not agree with you more. I see many people have a negative opinion on this game but I loved it. I am playing it for the second time currently (finishing off some trophies)
Despite it being similar to GoW, I keep it in perspective and didn't hang expectations on it that were more fitting for a sequel (or an established title like GoW). People can't seem to get past the similarity of the two because of the mythology storyline. Take away the storyline and Dante would get more praise for what it is… a fantastic action/adventure game with great graphics etc. but could use some polish… which usually happens in the sequel (I.E. GoW 1 and then 2)
DI is not perfect… it has flaws… so did GoW1. If they made the game about some Shogun warrior or something people would be forced to give the game it's due and not hold it in contempt because of the amazing work GoW is.
Sweet, loved the 1st one, May have to rebuy it back as I traded it as I needed the cash for other games at the time. I clocked it in a week. 🙂
It has great DLC, especially the Trials of St Lucia where you make your own challenges for online.
I hope the Scythe returns.
Not sure why so many people didn't like it. I thought it was a great game. Like I've said before, if GOW didn't exist then Dante's Inferno would have seemed a lot better to some of the people who didn't seem to like it. That was a day one purchase for me and I have replayed it many times and it's worth every penny so the idea of a sequel has me excited. I guess to each their own but I think Dante's Inferno was one of the best games to come out this year so far. I'd rank it a LOT higher than Heavenly Sword and Bayonetta.
TRUTH
My friend got Dante's Inferno for 360 half price yesterday.
He told me it's one of the best action games he's played on his 360.
I told him that's the kind of gaming he's been missing out on since God of War first came out on PS2 then PS3.
My friend had an Xbox then got a 360. Still hasn't been convinced to get a PS3. Give it time, many of my friends are exchanging their 360's to PS3's just so they can see Iron Man on blu-ray, and play God of War 3. Many are also awaiting GT5, that game is gonna be massive!!!!

DITTO
If GOW didn't exist, then DI wouldn't have existed either 😉
IMHO, NG2 is the best action game on the 360, and NGS2 is the best action game on the ps3. GOW3 is better game if compared as an adventure game, though, because of presentation and set pieces. I still have to play Bayonetta, but I'm expecting it to be more like DMC, which is still pretty damn good.
Blegh, this game might have been playable if they had given it a different title. But seeing something like the Inferno get butchered like this is offensive.
I actually did try to play it though, because I love the genre… but that didn't work out very well.
Don't think of it as a retelling of the classic poem.
Think of it as a love letter to the setting of Dante's Inferno. A game using the theme and setting, but not the exact story.
If you enjoy action games, this one may well be worth it, since it is half price and all in some places here in Aus.
I haven't played it, but I got WAAAAAY too many games to keep me busy for a while.
Still have God of War collection to get through too. I'm afraid Dante may have missed out on my shelf. Sounds great though, just no time unfortunately.
Can't wait! I'm with World on this one as I've always been about Dante's Inferno. Great ideas, fun combat system, and a horrid backdrop (horrid as in it's fitting for the location). I just expect to see a more diverse line of enemies, more weapons and attack options (don't get me wrong there were a lot of attack options) and also more great boss fights like Cerberus. By far my favorite boss fight and kill of the game.
anyone whos finished the game would tell you theres a sequel, its obvious, so obvious in fact its almost as guaranteed as the ending to GOW2…..
wonder if they will follow the series of poems or take it in a different direction.
id like to see it stay in hell, just the thought of hey im playing in hell is so cool!
and it allows them to really do some cool level design, where other areas like heaven and such meh.
thats one aspect dantes inferno did 1 million times better than GOW3.
the level design in GOW3 is almost the same throughout the same game, there is so much backtracking, its like theres 3 levels repeated 5 times!
dantes inferno actually tosses you into different environments, and theres actually unique things about that environment too like the different enemies you encounter.
