EA’s Latest Titles Like The “1 Million” Sales Plateau

EA has released some sales figures for several of their most important games of the past year and perhaps unsurprisingly, many have surpassed – or are at least flirting with – the 1 million sales mark.

First up is Battlefield 1943 , because according to the publisher, it has now become the most popular downloadable title in history with 1.5 million units sold. That number apparently tops all others in the realm of the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace, which is fitting because it's available on both online services and it's pretty darn good. In addition, EA has reported that Mass Effect 2 has sold 1.6 million units, and the multiplatform success of Army of Two: The 40th Day has resulted in 1 million+ units across the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PSP. Last but not least is Dante's Inferno , which is evidently closing in on 1 million sold on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PSP; this one garnered plenty of fans early on and now, maybe we should start turning our attention towards a sequel… And looking down the road, EA should have a few more million-selling blockbusters, as Dead Space 2 , Crysis 2 and Medal of Honor are all looming large for the tail end of 2010. Oh yeah, and The Sims 3 for consoles, which we have to assume will be crazy popular.

So, which of these big games have you played and which do you plan to play? There are plenty of great titles on store shelves these days and EA, love 'em or hate 'em, has plenty to offer.

I've played Mass Effect 2…that's all. I will be playing Dead Space 2 even after my gripe about them making Isaac more BA. I watched the trailer that went up a while ago and man, it hooked into me.

And ashamedly I will probably pick up the damn Sims 3. I like the first one and never got around to the second but will probably pick up the third entry just because. I will probably get it on the PC though as the first Sims was weird on console and just felt to be optimised for the PC keyboard/mouse schema

I read that LittleBigPlanet 2 will have mouse and keyboard support. Hopefully Sims 3 can follow suit.

@tridon

that would be really nice, wish more games would do that, the ps3 can handle it, why can't the devs.

I'm really hoping ff14 on ps3 will allow keyboard and mouse, controller for mmo is sucky.

Hey hey, what if you could play FFXIV with… wait for it.. the Move?! You could control a cursor on screen with it for clicking on objects, targets, skills etc. and use the normal face buttons (X, 0 , square and triangle) for other things.

Um…I don't really see why you would want LBP2 with mouse and keyboard controls…seems off. game was made for that controller

@ legendary

well just for drawing some items when crafting levels and stuff like that is all I'd want it for, but I'm hoping it is move compatible more than anything really.

I've got 'Battlefield 1943' and I freakin' love it. I just wish that EA and Dice would support it a little more. If it's the most popular downloadable game ever, you think they'd at least give it some new maps and/or features. I'd pick those up in a heartbeat.

I've also played 'Dante's Inferno'. The first three levels or so were quite fun but the rest of the game went downhill from there. If you can ignore the fact that it's a blatant of 'God of War', you can definitely have some fun with it. There's a lot of cheap deaths, though. Also, there's moments and characters in this game that seem like they're just there for shock value when really it just comes across as grotesque. It even turns you off the game a little.

As for EA's release schedule, I'm looking forward to 'Crysis 2' because I always wanted to try the first game. I'm also looking forward to 'Medal of Honor' because at one point in time, that franchise was the console FPS to end all console FPS's. I really hope EA and crew give that game every little bit of attention that it deserves. I can only hope that 'Medal of Honor' reclaims its FPS crown from Kotick and Co.'s 'Call of Duty'.

I'd love to get Dante's Inferno. That looks great. Sadly I just don't have the time or money for it right now.

For the coming soon section I'm definitely interested in MoH and have a keen eye on Dead Space 2. That way if Crysis 2 is good I'll be pleasantly surprised.

C'mon GOWIII was all recycled Hades stuff and bad puzzles. Gotta love the environments in Inferno.

Too late for playing it before GoWIII but not to worry, I don't judge games based on other games. Each one is a fresh experience for me.

sorry man but after spending some time with Dante's Inferno at my brother's place, i gotta say it was a pretty meh experience and this was before i got a hold of GoW3. just my opinion though, will eventually check it out in full once there isn't much else to play.

And for the most part, quite a lot of people liking GoW3 more than other games in its category isn't due to massive hype and people following it blindly, its more likely due to them being fans of the series. Its a great series simply because it is, not due to some massive advertising machine like Halo 3

Played all but Army of Two, Dante's Inferno, and Battlefield 1943. Waiting for July to get the PC version of Battlefield. Looking forward to Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2. And seeing as how Sims 3 has sold around 6 million copies, the console version should do well also.

To Alienage,

I really don't see Crysis 2 disappointing, from the articles I read and the footage I watched it looks promising. I know it is Multi-plat but I am expecting top performance from the PS3 version.

As this news is great for EA lets calm down on the info, Activision stole the title of Money Hungry unforgivable SOB's. EA has done well as of lately, excluding the used games rubbish.

Dead Space 2 will be a definite pre-order for me. Absolutely LOVED the first one. Crysis 2, we'll see. A shooter in a ruined city doesn't look too interesting to me, even if it's got really pretty graphics. If it's got great gameplay and an interesting story, then I'll most likely check it out.

I used to be interested in Dante's Inferno, but when I heard that the last third of it flat out sucked, that pretty much killed it for me.

I'm also looking forward to the next Need For Speed game from EA.

The last third didn't flat suck so much as it just began to play a bit like Darksiders. Make of that what you will.

is that an actualy game or a very clever joke?
and as for your comments on GOW3, i would agree that some of it is recycled, but thats what i've heard. as i've never actually played the first two, GOW3 was fresh for me, and immensely entertaining.
The only previous relation ive had to that genre was ninja gaiden. and altho different games, i like GOW3 more because while NG:Sigma1 was very good, it was faaaar too hard. the final bit was three boss battles one after the other, and i had no health items.

Do yourself a favor and get Dead Space now for under 20 bucks: The best survival-horror game this generation by far, and one of the best single player experiences, too, period. It's one of the first games to break the multiplatform curse on the ps3, and actually supported better sound due to Bluray. Visceral single-handedly changed my opinion of EA with this gem, and I mean it. You don't have any excuse not to play other than a lack of control over your bowels.

I do want to play dead space, but I know it's very short and I have all my money tied up in rdr and modnation right now. Maybe if good games stop piling out every month I'll get a break and be able to get to it.

I haven't played any of those either. I do have Dragon Age, Dead Space, and Mirror's Edge though. I'll check out Dante eventually.

just curious ben but, how many units has the saboteur sold for EA since it's release? that's gotta be nearing a million, i would hope… if not then, shame on all of you gamers for passing on it…

I'm playing The Saboteur right now and I'm having "Tons of Fun" with it. And it reminds me a lot like FarCry2 which I loved too, but only with Nazi's instead & a whole lot less of the AI re-spawning in the same place you just killed them in.

I love how each mission area suddenly goes from a dark sinister black & white into a full onslaught of vibrant colors after clearing out of all nazis & any of their equipment/supplies/etc.

***Spoilers****

I did cheat a bit though, after clearing out the nazi's in one heavy mission, I spend an hour using one of their own AA gun's to take down the Zeppelins, just racking up money points till I got to $10,00 so that I could buy better guns/health/equiptment ASAP for both me, & my allies in the Resistance too.
And it was so much fun hitting a Zeppelin & listening to the thud of a direct hit, and then watching it explode & come crashing down into the city as it incinerates itself.

But I found out I couldn't do it too many times, cause after a while the IA DOES get wise to it & either shows up with an extra rocket launcher that you can't get at, or they send up an fighter airplane to strafe you back & forth with machine gun fire.

Man, talk about some crazy times in Paris!!!!!!

dude you can take down the planes with the aa guns, gives you 100 contraband as opposed to the 50 you get for zeppelins!

I haven't played any of those games, but I'll at least watch Moh and deadspace 2, just wondering how they will turn out, but nothing on that list has me dancing or anything.

BikerSaint
BikerSaint

kraygen,

OOPS typo…. I was tired when I posted it, but that was supposed to read $10,000, and not $10.

Yeah, I knocked a couple of them out of the sky but that one AA gun I used rotated around so slowly it felt slower than molasses left outside in January.

****spoiler alert*****

Half the time I was trying to swivel, a enemy would sneak up with a grenade or rocket launcher, & I'd wind up dieing from the combination of a direct hit causing me to be knocked off my AA gun, & then the long tumbling free-fall back down to earth

Plus you can't always swivel the AA guns exactly where you want them.
Sometimes when a half-track showed up in the street below, I'd also try to aim at them by banking a few AA shots off the 1st or 3nd floor of the building behind them to get the truck & it's troops by concussion.

"By any means necessary", I always say.

I'll defiantly avoid Dead Space, Medal of Honour and NFS: Criteron or Burnout: Need for Speed.
Why yearly it almost destroyed NFS.

Anyway couple of them could be dangerously close to Littlebigplanet 2. Serves EA right for not releasing any games in July/August

Dammit World, that is exactly what I was going to say.

Here you have Ninja Theory crying poor mouth for selling 1.5 million on 1 system back when that 1 system first came out.

Then you have EA pleased at their 1 to 1.5 million sold games that many of them are across 2 platforms.

It is probably an expectation doesn't meet reality thing. Ninja Theory thought they would be retiring off the revenues from that game. Something doesn't add up.

have to say army of two the 40th day is by far my favorite EA game and shooter this year.
its so much fun, and the modifications you can make to your weapons.
one of the very few games that actually makes the fun game, and does not remove something because its "unrealistic."
i thought games were about having fun not realism.

a real sham it is like 4 freaking hours long!
why do the best games have to be so freaking short?
this and bioshock 2 are my favorite games of the year, and both really needed a SP injection to lengthen the game.
