Bungie Hasn’t Decided On Lead Platform For New Game

Okay, so we all know Bungie is working on a new IP for multiple platforms, but as of yet, we know very little about the project.

On top of which, they haven't even decided on the lead platform for their new game, which sort of indicates that we're a ways off from seeing anything concrete in terms of gameplay. Some are expecting that Bungie will choose the Xbox 360 as they obviously have plenty of experience with that platform, and as Bungie community boss Brian Jarrard told CVG , they "have a very intimate relationship with the 360." He goes further to say he's still excited about sharing their "new stories and universe with an even bigger audience and bring it to different devices and platforms and create new and interesting ways for our fans to engage." But even so, they remain undecided as to the lead platform; said Jarrard:

"It's a little bit too early for us to say which console we'll lead on. We're going to exactly figure out what's the right way to lead into our new universe and what's the right way to extend it. It's too early for me to say which console is going to be the first out of the gate."

Now, one could interpret the last statement as a possibility for the new game actually debuting on one console, but we doubt that'll be the case. And all we know for sure is that the new project will be action-oriented; beyond that, all we can really do is guess. But will Bungie side with the console they know, or will they try something new…?

Slap all those Xbots in the face and have it be a timed exclusive to the PS3.

I'd say, just go for the PS3, it'll make people "wow" and create extra hype for the game, and it will attract the Playstation fan base.
So yeah, Bungie, PS3 is the right choice, always, except when it's about the worst console, for which you could argue between wii and xbox 360.

If they haven't decided then it's safe to assume what platform they'll be leading on. It'll be a pleasant surprise if they decide to prove me wrong.

There was talk a while back about Sony announcing a new exclusive at E3; something similar to the San Andreas Timed exclusive. I wonder if this could possibly be it.

Hey Bungie,

Make the PS3 your lead console, then making it work on everything else, will just be pretty much gravy for you.

Expect a shocker. Lead platform will be Wii HD sometime in 2011, take it to the bank.

that would be a weird, almost stupid, decision if they are looking to innovate with this new IP

there is no incentive for the Wii because PS3 and 360 are getting motion controls so….. i guess if they could find an incentive it would be the large user base

MyWorstNightmar

I can't see it being a game implementing motion control if they are going to put it on the 360 and PS3. Since Move and Natal are SO different, I can't see any game being able to be on both platforms and be some sort of motion control game. It would have to be PS3 and Wii, and NO 360. Can't see that happening. Bungie ace out the 360? No chance.

what I meant was that if they wanted to incorporate motion into the game there is no sense in going with Wii since there are other options, even if they are different.

even after all that, I doubt they'll go with motion.

I agree with you, no motion! But also, just because a game is on the wii, doesn't mean it has to be motion control heavy.

Well, since they know the 360 so well, it actually makes ense to use the PS3 as the lead platform so that they can learn the platform and iron out all the bugs along the way. The 360 implementation will be easy for them, so they need to put the majority of their effort into the PS3 version since they are relatively new to the platform. It only makes sense…

I agree. I'm afraid if they don't do it that way, they may release an inferior version for ps3. Of course, this would stir WAY too many fanboy wars.

Highlander, they probably won't lead with the PS3 because if they lead with the PS3, they will make the game large, expansive, beautiful, and a space hog. Then they will try to fit it onto 3 discs, and say Oh Frack!, we can't fit this onto anything less then 5 discs. Then they will scratch their heads trying to figure out what to cut out, what to scale back. There will be a lot of finger pointing, name calling, insults. So for that reason, they will make the game on the 360, fit it onto 1 disc, or 2 max, and then port it.

Well while it makes more sense to lead with ps3 for many obvious reasons, I have a feeling they will take the easy way out and deliver us a low quality port.
I'm sorry but after the original halo, it's been all down hill for bungie in my eyes and I don't have a lot of faith in them to not do whats easy instead of what's right.

They should just create it in LBP2 and then port it onto Xbox.

I hope they optimize their game for the PS3 first, and then put the game on 3 DVD's.

Come on Bungie, you know you want to…

They probably won't. They've been working on the Xbox for over 10 years, they will stay with what they are comfortable with, making sub HD games for the Xbox then port it to the PS3.

Just my guess, but im pretty confident in my guess. haha

There's no question that PS3 will be their lead console. After those guys must be pumped to be able to touch a PS3 and able to finally say"Hey guys now that we aren't stuck with microsoft anymore, we can finally touch a PS3 finally!"

"They all cheer and party after they open up a PS3."
Then they all go to six Flags to Go Bungie Jumping and celebrating for the development on Playstation 3. END OF STORY

LMAO.

My guess it will be the 360. Lets be honest,Antivision will go to MS and give them a deal. This is Antivision after all and MS isnt above buying exclusive content. Money makes the world go round ppls.

Lead on the PS3? Bungie? It would be the smart thing to do but they won't. These are the people who are practically responsible for the existence of xbots. You think they're going turn around and ditch them now? Why would they do that?

On top of that, word is they've already started on their next project. You think they've been learning how to use the PS3 on the side while making ODST and Reach? Never.

all i can say is let me know when you decide on which lead platform, then i'll tell you if i'm gonna keep an eye on it.

They don't know? They just don't want to mention them still being an Xbox company even though they are making for both consoles now. I'm sure we will all be entertained by the PS3 port they give us.

I also think Bungie will choose the Xbox as lead platform just because they are so familiar with it and how to work on it.

The PS3 will be a huge challenge for them seeing it is their first time on our platform. But luckily there are plenty of development companies that can guide them and I am sure Sony will give them all the support they need. So they will get it right I am sure.

But if Sony takes them "under Their wing" for this project and make the PS3 the lead platform for their next title I thing it could be one "Epic" game.

But if the Xbox is the lead platform I am just worried about the porting process in the end. But if it does need to be ported maybe they can give it to a Sony company to handle… Just not to Sega or Valve or what ever….

i dont care what the lead platform is, just bungie please for the love of god NO MORE SHOOTERS!!!!!!
please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there are other genres you know!?

id like to see them tackle a platformer, something like prototype but good!
o, and without the post apocalyptic setting, i think thats getting WAY! overused these days.
with a really deep complex storyline, none of this company x turned you into a freak so you have to wreak revenge bull tripe!

Should be the PS3 to help then get to grips with it but they will go with the 360.

This company gets way too much credit. Halo was fun in 2002. Now…not so much. Digital Floundry did their thing with the Reach Beta and determined its running in Sub HD. So i think it should go without saying, if Bungie wants to make an impression, work on the PS3. Stop limiting yourself to an inferior sub HD console.
