Ben-DutkaWhen everyone first saw Quantum Theory in motion some time ago, the comparisons to Gears of War were immediate and obvious.
But despite what we may think, Tecmo Koei boss Yoshiki Sugiyama has said that his game most definitely is not a Gears clone. And although we still find it hard to believe that the project wasn't at least influenced by Epic's award-winning franchise, Sugiyama does mention the one feature that seems to stand apart: the partner aspect of the gameplay. He highlighted this in speaking to CVG , and tried to convince everyone that Quantum Theory is very much its own game:
"If gamers assume they know what awaits them, if they assume Quantum Theory is going to be just another shooter, they're going to be surprised. While the style may share similar traits of a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by hardened warriors it's the co-operation between our two characters that makes Quantum Theory so unique.
The fact you have to physically manipulate this spectacularly acrobatic partner while launching your own assaults makes for an interesting new dynamic – and of course the battle ground is always changing and shifting. There's a living tower at the heart of this story, a fantastical construction that is never as it seems."
Okay, well, that's true and all, but…it still looks a lot like Gears . Even the red damage indicator in the middle of the screen seems like a direct rip-off, as does the main character's movements and overall art design. That being said, we have to respect what Sugiyama has said and we'll certainly be interested in trying the final product, which should be released this summer. Well, maybe; it's been delayed quite a bit.

He will say anything to make a sale, so no surprise. Even though I never play Gears so I wouldn't know if they are similar or not.

u played it bayonetta which is the same as DMC, and that was kindda awesome . `For me if its like Gears I will be a very very happy man
I happen to like GeOW so I'm very interested in quantum theory. This will be a day 1 purchase for me.
At least it's third person, that's always a plus over first person, in my book.
I'm just not sure about the setting, one building? Hope it's a versatile building, got this info from the trailer btw, so if it's not just the one building, please correct me if I'm wrong.
dude, the building structure is ever changing, sometime u r behind a cover then the cover moves so I think it's versatile enough

When I first saw video of the game, I did think GeoW. But I do like the fact that the tower is changing all the time.
And sticklife is right, they should have kept it a PS3 exclusive. Not because of the fact it might been out now, but because TK could of really made the game SHINE.

its like a japanese knockoff of gears, with a chick that has armor and an outfit that is soo out of place.

lol, Tecmo should go look at army of two, they just described that game
heres to hoping it'll be good, but we all know deep down it wont b worth the launch price. maybe a rental.
After they made it mulit plat it is just another shooter.
Even if it was still exclusive it could wind up being 'another shooter'. PS3 only titles have been genre defining thus far, but don't think every PS3 exclusive is going to be good.. *cough* Last Rebellion *cough*

Gears is ok, I beat the first on with a friend, and played a good amount of the sequel, but I can't get into it to the point that I would buy a 360 to play it. Maybe Mass Effect, hope that comes to PS3 eventually.
yea if they port ME 1,2 and 3 onto a bluray, n call it the trilogy. ill pick it up first day
I think a single bluray port of the Mass Effect series could wind up being a bi*** slap to MS, especially after they claimed that 'The xbox 360 is successful because of the lack of Bluray'. But I'm sure a lot of people would love to see that.
Kinda sceptical now, but am looking forward to seeing what the final product is like.
It's weird, I've never been intrigued by an unknown game before. I like seeing new IP's.
Shame it didn't stay PS3 exclusive though. Coulda been really awesome.
Yah, I have my doubts with this one. If the reviews turn out to be solid I'll rent it to see how I like it. But I suspect this one may be received no better than Lost Planet 2. Come on Tecmo bring me some more NG and DOA.
Dante's inferno was a GOW clone so this should get what, an 8 of 10 from most reviewers. Good, but still a clone.
I don't expect a huge surprise, but at least I'm hoping for one.
The tower is alive & it's constantly changing itself up.

The reaction to Dante's Inferno being a GOW clone was mixed in PSXE but now Quantum being a GeOW clone is completely negative.
I guess everyone in PSXE hates GeOW……
