BioWare Working To Combat Dragon Age Crashing

Ever since firmware update 3.3 for the PlayStation 3, Dragon Age: Origins players have been suffering.

Many gamers have reported frequent crashing issues in the game after downloading the update but thankfully, BioWare is on top of things. The developer has a team currently working on the problem, and according to a post on the BioWare forums made by online producer Fernando Melo, player feedback has been very important.

"Thanks to the great feedback on here and from those folks we've been in contact with directly, the team now thinks we've been able to find a code-side workaround from our end to patch DA to play nicer with firmware 3.3, which was one of our investigation threads."

He goes on to say they're currently testing this code change and once complete, they'll have to get it through EA's certification testing. Hopefully, this won't take very long and Melo emphasizes that the publisher "is aware of the importance of this and will give this priority in the queue of titles/patches across EA." After that, it has to go through Sony testing and only then will we get the fix. So yeah, you've got to wait a bit but at least the crashing should go away some time in the near future.

I did experience a freeze when I was doing a mission in Denerim…
It really surprised me, but I just rebooted and reloaded the game, and it worked fine. I haven't had a freeze-up ever since.
Is it supposed to freeze that often?

I experience a crash in dragon age pretty frequent, I'd say approximately once every hour of play or so. Often enough for me to have gotten into the habit of saving very, very often…

Not often enough to spoil the game for me though. Dragon age is the coolest game I've played this year and quite possibly on my top 5 ever for the ps3, and this comes from a guy who can't really stand fantasy settings. Dragon Age changed all that. A very, very good game.

You can't stand fantasy settings, but your picture is from LOTR?

Say what? 🙂

I chose to pass on this title due to overwhelming backlog of games at the time, heh. A couple of my friends did not, and since 3.3 both of them have not been able to play reliably at all.

I was planning on getting this one when the GOTY edition comes out, or whatever the version is called with all the DLC included. I am sure it will be sorted out by then. 😀

Does this only affect Origins? I have been playing Awakenings a lot lately and have not experienced any crashes and mind you that is buying the DLC version of the expansion so I am booting up the disc and running off of it.

Anyways, regardless I hope for all the people having issues with the game that they get this resolved quickly.

I guess Bioware still can't get the hang of the PS3.

I guess Naughty Dog doesn't have a handle either considering Uncharted had problems after an update as well.

I've been playing the Disc version of Awakening and had no freezing issues.

I fail to see how a developer has little to do with a firmware update messing with their game. Just as I_defenestrate pointed out, by your logic Naughty Dog doesn't understand the PS3 either…

I have to have any problems at all. The framerate issues are still present, but I have never had a freeze.

I haven't been back to DA in a awhile so yeah I'm sure it will be fixed by the time I do. I HAVE to play it again since I couldn't copy my save over to the new hard drive.

Make me a patch that fixes the frame rate eh?

Actually BW, I'm afraid it's to late. I already sold my game due to the pathetic glitch that prevents you from proceeding any further. It happens in red cliff when you have to fight the swarming amounts of enemies and protect the village. well I did so (and many other gamers) and yet I'm not allowed to proceed cause apparently there's still 1 enemy left somewhere in the village that wasn't killed. The frustrating part is that you cant quit the mission. Well this is just B.S IMHO and I got rid of it. I put in too many hours for the game to just prevent me from beating it. Oh well the money was spent on something much more worth it (GoW3).

There's a class action lawsuit against Sony for that thing, based on the removed other OS

Dragon Age looks like it will expanded and patched multiple more times before it is all said and done. I think I might just wait out until the eventual GOTY Edition comes out.

Seen lots of people say they are waiting for goty edition but some goty editions are more bugged than the original releases and they don't get patched because by the the dev is done messing with it.

Oblivion goty was uber broke. If you got vampirism you couldn't get rid of it, which meant you couldn't go outside during the day. Just saying goty isn't always the best option.

My hubby has been playing Dragon age Orgins and Awakenings and had a few issues but not enough he said that it has ruined the game for him he was just super worried that the PS3 was having issues with the new firmware update but he saw me play bioshock 2 for like 3 hours with no issues so he knew it was his game.

Hopefully they fix it soon, I know it can a little frustrating.

i hope this update was worth it, i didn't see the details but i'm sure glad i didn't download it yet as all i play at the moment is dragon age (it even caused me to put off my GoW3 purchase) and i'm about 80% done and would be super upset to have it ruined by an update. i can't install the update as i've not updated to the new ps3 firmware yet since i have an original PS3 and am trying to hold on to the 'Other O/S' functionality Sony touted so much when advertising the PS3. i'm waiting to see how the lawsuit pans out or until i can afford a second console. with dragon age taking up any gaming time i have the wait should be easy. i was gonna buy the retail version of Awakenings expansion as it's the same price as the DLC but you can return it for modest store credit when you're through with it if you buy it rather then DL it (nice incentive on the pricing, Sony..idiots)…

is it just me or is sony doing alot of stupid stuff of late (and EA, but that's standard for them)?

same thing happens with the pc version. Can't even finish the game because of it. A little surprised something like this came from bioware
