Those of you who love the long-running SOCOM franchise were likely excited to hear about SOCOM 4 , in development at Zipper Interactive ( MAG ) and scheduled to launch later this year.
But in order to become better acquainted with the new title, you should probably meet the game's new lead character. Cullen Gray, known as the Operations Commander (Ops Com), has been unveiled over at the PlayStation Blog , and this accomplished soldier has quite the history. The son of a naval analyst and a civilian geologist, Gray traveled a great deal and saw a lot of military life as a child. He then graduated from a military university "with an outstanding record" and went on to serve his country in the special forces before being recruited into NATO's Limited Resources Deployment (LRD) program. As part of the New Warfare paradigm, guys like Cullen were employed as "troubleshooters able to leverage only the resources at hand to resolve high-risk or remote field missions with a high rate of success." Needless to say, Cullen gained a lot of experience in this role and after three years and a review period, Gray was promoted to Operations Commander and began to oversee the operations of small-unit operations around the world. As for a more personal bio:
"His physical condition is matched by a deep intelligence and natural leadership abilities. While renowned for quickly and quietly resolving some of NATO’s most tenuous situations, psychologically his profile is something of a mystery. Generally exemplary before his rescue, routine profiling since shows that he became withdrawn and cynical, choosing to socialize little with colleagues and showing a distinct lack of empathy for those unwilling or unable to comply with his directives. Gray is driven by the mission at hand and will pursue success at all costs."
In short, Gray's service record "is the stuff of legend." …sounds like just the right guy to have as a lead character, huh?

THANK YOU
i hope some of the older characters from the series will make a cameo appearance in socom 4
I never played any SOCOM games until 2010 when I played SOCOM 3 on the PS2, but since I already played the likes of Uncharted 2 by that time, I just can't get into it.
And with MAG can't live up to the standard of KZ2, I'm hardly excited for SOCOM 4.
Excited I may be not, but keeping my eyes on it I will and I also hope for the best for SOCOM 4 and the day I know SOCOM 4 is worth spending hours on it is the day I become a SOCOM fan.
its really outdated now dude i went back to socom 3 a while ago and couldnt get into it and i used to love it
Yea, now I regret I missed out on SOCOM back when PS2 still kick ass.
I missed not just SOCOM though, I also missed Twisted Metal, Deux Ex, Tomb Raider etc.

Snaaaake is really Yoda!
ahhhhhhhhhh i miss the glory days of socom.
i just hope their putting their best foot forward and making the SP mode just as good as the previous titles.
with zippers last game being a MMO, and the less said about confrontation the better! im worried they have forgotten to create a great story mode.
i think we have had enough games destroyed by MP thank you very much!
Uncharted 2 multi and SSF4 are the only games I'm playing much online at the moment. However as a fan of the first Socom I am interested in this.
I cant wait for this ganme! I've been a long time fan of the franchise. One thing ive wanted in the Socom series was a bit more story orientation. I love the way the campaigns are set up doing little missions in a part of the world. But a lead character might give it that edge!
And the MP is always awesome. Granted Confrontation was a little sloppy, but with Zipper back at the helm, I'm sure we'll see old school Socom at its finest!
I like it! If anything has a chance of getting me off of MAG as my shooter, SOCOM 4 does..
socom is great online. it reminds me of 3rd person counter-strike, which is the best online shooter of all time. i mean, at least I think so. realistic damage ftw! confrontation was poopballs, though. good to see zipper back in control. take a hike, slant six!
