There are indeed differences between the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, as often pointed out by developers.
Take, for instance, vice president of Alawar Entertainment, Kirill Plotnikov, who spoke to PS3Center about the advantages of the PSN. He makes note of the "comfortable working conditions" Sony provides for smaller developers, as well as the unlimited possibilities offered by their online service. Said Plotnikov:
"Sony has created exceptionally comfortable working conditions for casual game developers, which has allowed us to make our most challenging ideas a reality. Another important thing is that the platform has almost no hardware limitations. The development toolkit makes it possible to use high-resolution graphics and the most advanced visual effects possible."
This is likely in reference to the fact that Sony doesn't put a data cap or limit on how large a PSN game can be. As a result, we can receive downloadable titles in full high-definition, and designers don't have to worry about a size restriction cramping their style or forcing them to make sacrifices. Live initially had a file size limit of 250MB and since has been upgraded to 2GB, but it's still not unlimited. As for Alawar, it's important to remember that they've made games for other platforms as well as the PSN.
Personally, I just want to see the next title from thatgamecompany. Bring it on, guys!
Boo ya
I was unaware that Xbox Live had a data cap limitation on file size. Interesting. That would definitely make the PSN's unrestricted size policy very enticing for developers looking to stretch their wings.
Good to know.
I could have sworn that the original file size cap for games developed for XBLA was 150MB.
I think you are right. They wanted users without an HDD and only a 256MB memory card to be able to download arcade games.
I thought it was, too. Bear in mind I'm only basing the info on the PS3Center article.
Another plus for Sony.
Speaking of amazing PSN games, you guys HAVE to try Hustle Kings if you like pool!!!! It is fun and really really good.
does it have normal pool, cause I'm not interested in some of those timed pool type mini-games but I love me some regular 8 ball or 9 ball.
Also do u know if it's going to support move later?
yeah, it has regular 8 and 9 ball games 🙂 but when playing online with people there's a time limit, of 60 seconds haha, or less.
Yeah, its got other game modes as well. Like Killer, Cut throat, blackball, 14.1 continuous, and 3 ball. I believe its in 1080p that's what my TV says at least. It is worth it man.
if it has move support, i'll get it then… but tbh i actually want a pool table
I also would love to see another game from thatgamecompany. Both games they put out for the PSN and the PC game they did were all amazing and innovative. I can't wait for what they bring to the table next.
Another plus for PSN. I just got Braid yesterday and I'm loving it. Now if PSN would get more Shmups, I'll be heaven.

while downloadables aren't really my big thing, it's nice to find another way to tell xbots that ps3 is better.
Yes! Console makers should encourage and make big ideas possible on their machines. Their job is not to limit what developers can do.
Sony to Microsoft:
I'll stand my ground
I won't go down
You won't break me
You won't make me
You won't take me,
Under blood red skies
You won't break me
You won't take me
I'll fight you under
blood red skies
(lyrics by Judas Priest)
I swear I remembered reading an article where they started charging something like 10 cents/GB downloaded from PSN.
Maybe it didn't actually come to pass, or maybe in comparision to the XBL, that's nothing.
I knew XBLA had a limitation of 50 MB at one time and that was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. But if it's 2 GB now, I dunno, are there even any PSN/XBLA games that large? I honestly have no idea.
A win for Sony at any rate, though of course it all comes down to the games. And while we're on the subject of downloadable games, where's my PSN version of Catan! I know they have one in Japan, but right now console Catan is limited to XBox only! PLAYSTATION CATAN FOR USA!
I'm pretty sure there are a few demos that go over that limit, plus there is the recent 10gb download for that new rpg. Wipeout might have been over 2gb.
I remember that because they made a big deal about Symphony of the Night going over that limit
Tired of the gimp effect hampering your project? Join Sony on this comfy couch over here. We've got something to show you.
Sounds dirty. I like it 🙂
didn't Microsoft have to up it to 2gb because of the GTA4 DLC?
Plus the fact that Sony also has development "help" teams that they send to the rescue, if needed.
If I remember right, even though it was a disc game, Sony did do that for the Killzone2 developers when they got stuck somewhere inside the PS3's architecture.
I still can't help but wonder what XBL is worth paying for….
Facebook!
I mean duuuuuh
No!!!! Avatars! Those are really worth your 50 bucks.
Then spend lots of money on Natal and BAM! you can look at the underside of your avatars shoe.
except bandwidth 😉
anyway i wish the PSN would be treated to more classic titles not only ps1 classics but games like the Iphone has.
my iphone is riddled with some really good games, i would kill to see a particular game called Jet car stunts.
has you as a toy car jumping, drifting and such to solve puzzles.
best most fun downloadable game i have ever played!
PSN needs more games like joe danger and earth worm jim! and less zombie shooters.
honestly how many shooters do we need!?
as if the disk based market is not saturated enough with them, now they have to invade the downloadable space too!?
Lovely to hear yet another plus for the Playstation side.
That cap means the xbox people couldn't even handle the demo for God of War 3 😀
And yeah, I can't wait to see what awesome game thatgamecompany will produce. I said it before and I'll say it again: Get Flower if you don't have it yet, it's so awesome!
