When technology is new to a certain industry, it can take a while to grab hold. And not surprisingly, most of you won't be going 3D just yet.
The majority of PSXE readers say that 3D gaming is simply too expensive of a proposition to be realistic right now. And that's perfectly sensible, as a new 3D-enabled HDTV won't be cheap; Samsung has a few LEDs that can handle 3D, but not one of them can be considered "cheap." You'll see the same when Sony's 3D Bravias launch in June. Now, the firmware update that brought 3D functionality to the Playstation 3 was free, and we don't believe that 3D games will be any more expensive than normal games. It's just the TV and unfortunately, that's always the most expensive investment. Another big group just says they're not interested in 3D so they'll stay away for the time being. However, an acceptable percentage of gamers do plan to use 3D for both their movies and games, and although it's a smaller number than those who say "no," it's a good sign for the advancement of this technology. I think Sony should make better 3D HDTV packages specifically designed for gamers; they're the ones who would most likely want those new TVs, so Sony should sweeten the deal.
This week, we want to conduct our own "connectivity" poll. A recent study told us that the PlayStation 3 was the "most connected" console; i.e., the highest ratio of owned consoles connected to the Internet. This isn't exactly surprising 'cuz the Network is free, but some people really don't care about it. What's the Network status of your PS3?
'm not giving in until the glasses disappear and the TVs themselves get cheap enough for me to afford. I'll probbl have a PS4 by then, lol.
Also, for the poll on the PSN: How could you NOT be connected ll the time? I would think it would either be Connected or not, ya know? The only thing I could see why someone would have to get rid of it or not have it on everytime you turn the PS3 on is that you don't have a wireless router.
I think 3D TV's will always be too expensive for me. I can get a perfectly good 32" HDTV for around $400, and I just don't place enough importance on it to spend more than that. Our main TV's are nearly new, and I can't see replacing a one or two year old set with a new one. The 3D TV's currently start at about $2,000. For that money I could get three 32" HDTV's and three PS3's to go with them. To spend that much on something just to experience the wonder of 3D – it ain't gonna happen.
My PS3 gets hooked up to the internet whenever I want to download some demo's or check for updates before beginning a new game. Otherwise I'm offline.
For me, since I just got a really nice LED-LCD about 2 months ago, it doesn't make any sense for me to purchase a 3DTV. Plus it would have been out of my price range even if I had waited, so my vote was for it beeing to expensive.
As for the new poll, my PS3 is connect to the network all the time. My ID is my name 'michiganfan1983' if anyone wants to add me.
The one game that I would love to see in 3D is "Burnout". There are a couple others that I would like to see too, but honestly 3D gaming is on the bottom of my must have list… actually it's not even on the list.
If the economy was better, I would be a day one 3D purchaser.
I'll probably buy a 3-d set in about 2-3 years. I'm guessing they'll be affordable by then.
My ps3 is always connected to the internet. My psn is yak4life85 for anyone that wants a new friend. Let me know your from here.
Does always online count if I'm online but can't currently sign into PSN since I refuse to update from FW 3.15 (until maybe Geohot's custom firmware comes out)? Kinda unsure if the poll is asking if my PS3 is connected to the Internet or PSN, based on wording.
I think he's asking if your just connected to the net, and not any particular site(such as PSN)
It's just that "the Network" in the article refers to the PSN as that and the poll question seems to imply it, but then it could also appear to just be asking if it's online at all (for web browsing and being able to get game updates).
I sign in to PSN every day, but I don't have the PS3 auto-connect and I don't usually stay connected unless the game requires it.
