Crysis 2 Animator Found Inspiration In Kojima’s MGS4

Even a team that isn't shy about taking potshots at other studios can't possibly find anything but praise for a game like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots .

Crytek, the developers responsible for Crysis and the upcoming Crysis 2 that is also coming to consoles, have come under a bit of fire lately for calling out the competition in a variety of different ways. But according to a recent interview with Crysis 2 animator Luke Kelly, Hideo Kojima's masterpiece was a great inspiration for the artistry and design we will see in the hotly anticipated sequel. In response to the question, "Do you get inspiration from other games/movies?" Kelly responded:

"I certainly do! Metal Gear Solid 4 is a perfect blend of; production values, balanced gameplay, atmosphere and personality. Many games have some of these qualities, but very few have all four."

There are a few other interesting replies but to hear that MGS4 has been an inspiration is encouraging, and a break from the line of people working on Crysis 2 who have already pegged the game as a guaranteed Game of the Year contender. Nothing wrong with a little optimism via encouraging statements, of course, but it's nice when one praises another title and says, "I looked at this great piece of work to help me out." Well, that's kinda what measuring-stick games do , right?

Yea! Next article you'll see him say MGS4 has average story and graphics which they can easily outdo.

He respects gamers as much as we respect him. This is hard to find. I guess you can say the same thing about Capcom this gen, but in a negative way.

As well he should.

I was expecting the typical mudslinging Crytek PR statement.

Not this.

Who DOESN'T draw inspiration from MGS4? Being able to spot why something is fantastic doesn't mean you have the talent to do the same.

So first they claim that their graphics will be groundbreaking and better than anything else we've ever seen, then they claim they are copying their art style from a game over 2 years old? I lol.

Don't get me wrong MGS4 was unarguably one of the best games ever made, but crytek should think before they speak.

The game will probably look any better then most good looking mulitplats on the market.(the console versions at least). I don't expect this game to have better graphics them most PS3 exclusives. MGS4, Uncharted 2, God of War III and probably even Killzone 2 will still hold the crown. I'm sure this game will look great but not PS3 exclusive great.

Don't think he said anything about copying the art style, just being inspired by the balance of the deeper and quality aspects of the game.

I can confirm that the console versions are looking very good.

@kraygen I'm not sure you are grasping the concept of the word 'Inspiration'

The Twitch Gamers would disagree.

You mean there is a game out there that doesn't suck compared to Crysis? Wow that's a new message. The only thing I know for sure is if it doesn't look better on PS3 then it could have been better if not a multiplat. I'll gladly pull a tooth out if the visuals of a multiplat can outdo KZ2.

Crytek are gonna lick their wounds when this game doesn't blow like they want it to..Don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to this game as much as the next guy but the perceived hype in my gaming community is pretty sub par for it

P.S. KZ3 FTW!!

why is anyone caring what these jokers think? Crysis isn't even a good game. they don't even have a proven track record on the pc.

I can't believe they waited this long to say something about Kojima's masterpiece. I don't play FPS's, so they must be trying to suck up to some of y'all for saying stupid sh*t here recently..

What's up with this sneak attack ps3 update today?

If they can make the weapons in Crysis 2 half as realistic as they were in MGS4 THEN they'd be on to something. Super soldiers with super weapons is not really my cup of tea.

Glad to see the compliment!

As for company's boasting, or even claiming to 1-up each other, I have no problems with that.

But, just like in my world, they better bring their "A" game by proving their worth, backing up their talk.
Or they're just another phony poser wanna-be.
