Ben-DutkaIf you never played Tecmo Bowl back in the day, you either weren't a gamer at the time or you simply weren't born yet.
But whether you missed out or can easily remember the greatness of that uber-simple football game, you'll definitely get a chance to enjoy that addictive purity some time soon. Tecmo has announced that Tecmo Bowl Throwback will release on the Xbox Live Marketplace on April 28 for 800 Microsoft Points and while we know it's coming to the PlayStation Network, we unfortunately don't have a release date. They would only say that a PSN launch "will soon follow." The game will offer both the old-school 2D graphics along with an updated 3D visual display; both styles will match the gameplay from yesteryear, too. And despite the obvious difference in NFL rosters, Throwback doesn't have the NFL licensing (EA has a stranglehold on that, as you know), so they'll just stick to that original 1991 roster…only with slightly different names. You know, like Joe Wisconsin passes long to Jerry Wheat. Last but not least is the inclusion of online multiplayer, which ought to be amusing, at the very least.
Man, I can't wait to relive the good ol' days. Who wants to take Bo all the way? Or intercept just about every pass with Howie Long? I think I managed to win 91-0 on the GameBoy version…

i love old side scrolling football games, but i think i missed this one. My first football game was Joe Montana's SportsTalk.
Wow, this just made my day. I used to love Tecmo Bowl. This is definitely going to be a day 1 purchase for me.
I spent way too much time withis game back in the day. Friends and I would have all weekend tecmo bowl old dutch cokacola marathon tournaments. this will be day1 for me for sure

Really disappointed in how Live gets it's first and almost to a level of being a timed exclusive.

I played the portable tecmo football divice and that was prety fun thanks little brother who got my Gameboy SP token away. If it wasnt for you I would of never of heard of tecmo football. Thanks lil' guy.
PS still can't wait for GT5.

I just hope I can still run up and down the screen and have defenders dive hopelessly in my wake. This game was amazing. Best cut scenes ever!
I think I will have to get this just for the nostalgia factor.
If you watch the videos that are available, you can see that that tactic still works somewhat.
I still have my original so I don't know that I'd need this really, but it does peak my interest.
I'd be interested if they could use the actual, current NFL teams/rosters.
