PSXE Readers: The Real God Of War Will Take Your Questions

Kratos is one of the most effective, well-designed characters in the history of video games. But there must be a great deal of humanity behind such creations, which is why SCEA turned to TC Carson for the voice of Kratos, and to Joseph Gatt for the body and movements.

As you can see by his lengthy resume , Gatt has been involved in movies, TV, games and even dance for quite some time. He landed the Kratos mo-cap actor role for God of War II , returned for the recent third installment, and has also lent his talents to the likes of Lair , Driver 2 and Driv3r , and Sony's popular SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs franchise. He even had a hand in another PlayStation 3 exclusive masterpiece, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots , so this guy gets around. Now, he has offered to answer some questions and we've decided, as we are indeed a PlayStation-oriented website and our readers are just about as informed as we are (in some respects), that you should provide these questions. Simply place your question(s) below in the Comments section; if you see one you like, vote for it by replying to it and feel free to add one of your own. We'll take a bunch of 'em and see what Gatt has to say.  We'll keep this story stickied for a few days.

Being the true lifeblood of Kratos, a character most mortal men sorta envy (if only for his physical attributes), has got to be pretty darn cool. And we imagine you guys have some good questions for the man who helped bring the God of War to life. So fire away!

P.S. For the record, Gatt will be making appearances at the upcoming WizardWorld Comicon and Comicon San Diego, so if you're in the area…

I'm starting to think I've lost all my other friends in here because I was for unadulterated violence and senseless murder. Anyway, Streets of Rage is the best Beatemup of all time.

Unadulterated violence and senseless murder is fun in video games, I'd rather have it stay.

Here's a question: Since you look fairly similar to Kratos, would you dress up as him on Halloween, if you get the chance?

Will you throw on a wig and do the movements for cloud in final fantasy 7?

it would take someone much buffer than cloud to carry that sword to be sure.

Since all the excellent questions have been asked, I'm just going to jump on the silliness train…

1) What is like to ride a Titan up a mountainside? It looks like it'd be pretty XTREME!

2) How many times did David Jaffe swear at you during the making of the original game?

3) How physically demanding were those sex mini games?

Okay… a couple serious ones…

1) My brother wants to make it into the game industry as a sound designer. He going to school this fall to get a degree in the field? Do you have any tips on how to make it into the game industry? I know its a different field but maybe you have some good strategies.

2) What's after Kratos for you? Any film work, or strictly more games?

3) Are you a gamer and if so, what system do you play and what's your favourite game? (favourite with a 'u' because I'm totally Canadian, eh)

Thanks, man. Keep up the great work and thanks for a decade of Kratos!

And I just realized that you didn't join the GoW series until the second (that's what I get for skimming articles) so I guess Jaffe must've took it pretty easy on you. LOL. Yes, I'm an idiot.

Either way, thanks for giving us the time to ask you questions.

Legitimate question:
Since you have done several movies and motion capture performances for games, would you consider yourself succesful in both the gaming and film industry? And do you prefer one?

1. What is your favorite game AND favorite movie that you've worked with?

2. What is your favorite game AND favorite movie you HAVEN'T worked with?

3. What games and movies did you enjoy most when you were growing up? Were those the things that inspired you to do what you do today, or is there something different that inspired you?

(and last, but not least!!)
4. What's your favorite color?

Whatever he did in the mocap suit can be viewed in the extras of the game……and yes, that includes the sex mini-game with aphrodite

But during the sex minigame, it shows the two whore lesbians and not Kratos. Might have been an excuse to get laid with Aphrodite, lol.

Legitimate World Questions:

Did you have to be suspended on wires for aerial moves?

Do you think developers could achieve realistic motion in a character without the talents of mocap actors such as yourself?

What are the difficulties you faced during the motion capture for GOD OF WAR III?

1. Did you actually got to rip apart plastic harpies and climb on fake trolls etc.?

2. Is there something about Kratos which you would change?

3. Do you gut people and break dogs' necks for fun? (or how much do you have in common with kratos)

4. Did you have real replicas of Kratos' blades? Did you get to keep one?

5. Can we see Kratos do a move which is typicaly you?

6. Did you ever make Kratos dance or scratch his bottom or something similar?

7. How many people involved in the production process were scared of you? Did you beat them?

8. Are there any cool or special ideas for moves which would have been awesome but were removed for some reason (time etc.)?

9. Did you apply warpaint to get into your role?

It may just take some time.

A few questions not entirely related to God Of War 3. (Shock)

1 – You obviously love action games, but what about more relaxed family-friendly games such as LittleBigPlanet?

2 – If you enjoy LittleBigPlanet, have you created any levels, such as a God Of War themed level?

3 – What was your favorite memory when playing LittleBigPlanet.

If you don't own LittleBigPlanet;

1 – After you did the motion capture for God Of War 3 and got to play it, were you surprised to see your character doing amazing stunts and moves? What exactly were you thinking when you first saw Kratos in God Of War 3?

That's all for now.

in god of war 1, kratos was a really deep, likeable character.
in god of war 2, and most of 3, hes a real 1-dimensional character. hes all revenge, revenge, revenge.
not like its a bad thing though. the results of his revenge are EXTREMELY satisfying

What happened to Joseph Gatt answering our questions right here in this topic?
