Ben-DutkaIf someone asked what you thought was the "most covered" video game ever; i.e., the game that snagged the most magazine covers, what would you guess?
Of all the huge games out there, we're willing to bet most wouldn't think of Assassin's Creed II and yet, that's the correct answer. According to Ve3tro , Ubisoft has received confirmation from the Guinness World Records that their excellent sequel is officially "the most cover-featured video game." ACII was the lead cover story for 127 different publications between April 2009 and April 2010…and considering the game launched in November, it's more like April 2009 through October 2009, but we digress. It's quite the accomplishment, no? Said Ubisoft boss Alain Corre:
"Assassin’s Creed is one of our most well-loved brands. The worldwide interest for the brand, coupled with the energy and creativity of our press team made for a winning combination and I am proud of receiving this Guinness World Record."
Even Gaz Deaves, Editor of the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition admitted that he would've expected the record to be held by another title, and "this achievement is even more impressive in view of the other 2009 releases Assassin's Creed II was able to beat." Well, we knew Ubisoft and the industry really pushed this game hard but we hadn't quite realized it was this hard. And at least the game is easily one of this generation's best, so it's not like it received all that attention for nothing.
I would have -NEVER- guessed this game. Honestly, as much dislike I have for the game, my first guess would have been Halo 2 or 3.
Yeah, I was thinking Halo 3 also. Microsoft hyped the hell out of that overrated game.

It would make sense that it would have to be a multi-plat. It would make the cover of both PS3 and 360 specific mags and the ones that cover all systems…..and AC2 is one of the better multi-plats for sure.
I have yet to play this. I have been involved in several games, and eventually, this one is next.

ACII is great without a doubt but after I finished the story, there's just really nothing left to do aside from completing side missions, collecting feathers and trying to get the rest of the trophies.
But good to know that it's the most covered game as it fully deserved it.
the subject matter probably is what made it so popular across the globe. I'm in the middle of AC1 and look forward to getting 2 (hopefully it will still be only 30 bucks in Amazon).

most covered more like most overrated. i played the game and did not like it at all. wasted 60bucks that day.

ACII was amazing….. i got the platinum trophy and i'm on my third playthrough… stopped for a while though for GOWIII.
i bet this record gets broken in the next year or so once GTA 5 is announced and released…
I still haven't got around to playing the second AC. I had the original and it just wasn't my cup of tea. From word of mouth and reviews, though, it looks like the second blows the first out of the water so I definitely want to give it a shot one day.
I would have guessed MW2, any 360 exclusive, or any FPS.
They don't need to be covered; some people will buy them by default 😛
If I had to guess I'd say cod:mw2 would have been all over magazine covers, especially xbox 360.
Funny thing about acII I still haven't had time to play it. The sad part is i've had it since christmas. So little time, so little money.
i am yet to open the seal of this game and play it. lol i got it for a deal of 20 dollars. 😀
Well I could believe this because after the underwhelming ACI, ACII needed alot of exposure. This does prove that marketing result in great sells, probably Sony should start marketing their games more often. I have seen more Splinter Cell commercials than GOWIII already and when were both of these release again?…lol…but seriously, marketing for Sony is weak. I have never seen a Heavy Rain commercial, Infamous, MGS4, etc. The only game I really saw get exposure is UC2 and look at how well its doing, and GOWIII got some of the same treatment. What about MAG, what about etc…Sony wants money, yet they don't take the time to do the little things that would increase business. I know alot of people agree with me. The best marketing they have done is for0 the slim which is slap in the face to everyone who paid $400 and up for a 40GB original PS3. $300 for 120GB, that is great, but then sucks because I got ripped off in the beginning and I am constanting deleting game data so I can play a new game that needs half my hard drive to become playable. Yes, I am off topic, but I just felt like saying that…lol
The oringinal Assassin's Creed disappointed me, that's for sure.
It's probably why I have yet to dive into the second one so quicker then I have.
Wow, really didn't expect that, I can't recall many magazines with acII on the cover, then again, I don't read many magazines, I have the internet for my news, though I do like my occasional Official Playstation Magazine.

So Guinness World Records really is just a bunch of people with nothing better to do. Ah, can't blame them I guess. Video games is where it's at these days and they're just trying to get in on it.

I am playing it now and I am having so much fun with it. It took everything that was wrong with the first one and fixed it.
I have had a great experience so far. And it is by far the best multiplat game out at the moment…
All the attention and yet I've never played it..either one I may add. One of these days I suppose.

combat, controls, environment, graphics, sound, storyline, level structure.
almost everything in that game was near perfect!
