Doesn't God of War III look pretty damn good? Would you believe it if the developers said they could make it look even better?
Well, you might. In an interview with Games On Net as cited by Connected Consoles , Sony Santa Monica's Bruno Velazquez says the team hasn't yet maxed out the PlayStation 3. He also makes a statement that would support the concept of developing exclusive titles:
"We didn't have to worry about how it was going to work on other platforms. I think because of that we were able to spend a little more time to squeeze the most out of that system, and I know that we haven't reached the full potential yet."
We always thought it sounded logical. Regardless of the platform, one would have to assume that a development team would be able to extract more out of that platform if it was the only platform they were using. This would easily explain why exclusives – on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 – seem to often be head-and-shoulders above the slew of multiplatform titles. Furthermore, it proves the PS3's potential and capability when most agree that several of the best games of the generation are PS3 exclusives. Therefore, we're more than a little interested to learn about future exclusive projects. Aren't you?

Exactly, which brings to mind about what the Castlevania producer said which irked me.
Quality > popularity and other things.

Im still Serious About Slapping Dave Cox
The graphics, hot damn, GoW3's graphics are incredible. Except for Hera, she looks crappy, and the occasional NPC dork who gets in your way.
Whatever Santa Monica makes next should be incredible. Just look at the massive jump in graphics from GoW to GoW2. If they can make another leap like that….
Yeah, GOWII is no joke, the way they were able to UP the quality was breathtaking…
Thats like saying ferrari's are fast, well duh.
I couldn't agree more, but I mean, I thought it was obvious, then I remembered that over a couple articles the last few days we've discussed how some people are just dumb.
In that case I'm glad he spelled it out for them.
It's like any kind of art
If you're making a song in two languages at the same time, the quality will be dumbed down to accommodate the lyrics for both languages with the same rhythm
Or in art, imagine if you had to paint the same painting twice using different materials…
Anyway…exclusives have always been better than multiplatform games. In most cases anyway. I think only fighting games are able to escape this.
People are starting to crow about how Crysis 2 "is the best looking game on the xbox!". "best graphics on a console evah!". I think God of War III looks better. The Crysis 2 trailer looks decent but not better then this.
I think they should create a new IP and use the God of War III engine. I wouldn't mind a new God of War either. :). This game is purty, and if they can make it even better…yummmy…

Heavenly Sword 2!
I never played the first one. Maybe ill pick it up since everyone seems to like it. 🙂
I never played either. But i picked up Fallout 3 and MGS4 (my copy was stolen) for $20 each, but HS is still $60, was it that good?
Not having to worry about how it is going to work on other platforms is definitely a plus for developers. I'm glad some can see that.
God of War 3 is the best game this year so far. The graphics, story, gameplay, I would give 9's, but the ending is like an 8, which is still good. The ending to God of War 2 got my adrenaline pumping, "eager to get the third game to know what happens". God of War 3 ending should have the same feeling. Everything got wrapped up.
well considering it was an end to a trilogy, why would it leave an ending like GOW2 did?
Dont quote me on this either, but I heard there is an alternate ending they were working on, too before the game released. I cant cite anything as its just hear say, but apparently it involved the titans and was at such a massive scale they couldnt get it in before release.
anything can look better as developers learn to optimize their code properly and find out new tricks to use.
allot of developers were saying half way through the ps2s life that they maxed the machine out, look at GOW2 that looks 10 times better than every ps2 title out there!
thats with every console, uncharted 2 for another example ND said they maxed out the ps3 but they can still optimize their code and use a few smoke and mirrors.
anything, and everything can always be better if you know what your doing.
but the theory that a game has to be exclusive to bring the best out of said system is a load of hogs wash!
look at crysis 2, RAGE, BRINK, and such.
all multiplatform games and i bet you 50 bucks both crysis 2 and RAGE will look better on every system than GOW3 looks on the ps3.
if you have the time, money, commitment and talent you can do what ever you want.
but just wait till half life 3 comes out (or should i say if?) because when it does it will blow anything and everything out of the water.
its about fu**ing time valve put the source engine to bed and create a new beast!
hope they keep it PC exclusive this time that way they dont have to worry about cutting things out just because the consoles cant handle it.
RAGE and BRINK??!! Way to name two of the future's biggest epic fails as superior to GoWIII.
As for Half-Life 3, well, I suppose it'll show up sometime after the enigmatic "episode 3" of part 2.
blank line fails again.
how can you say there epic fails if there not even out yet?
obviously you know nothing of ID software because like valve every single game they release is pure gold.
what are 3 of the most famous series of all time?
thats right, quake, doom and wolfenstine.
well, guess what?
ID CREATED THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I've stated in posts to previous articles on this site, I doubt highly that _any_ exclusives we've seen this gen, PC, PS3 or 360, would've looked the same or, better, had they been multi-platform. Only a select few developing teams have shown they can handle the task, to say nothing of whether they can actually MAKE a good game or not.
Exclusivity gives developers more time on the actual game, plain and simple. They spend less time having to learn 3+ different architectures, for their basic game engine, and can devote more energy to the rest of the game, which is a considerable task in and of itself.
Besides, without exclusives, there would literally be NO reason, to own more than 1 console, or a PC etc.. None. It'd simply come down to what brand name you like the most, or how 'cool' the packaging looks.
Nice, God of War III looked really awesome and shiny n whatnot, and if they can make it even better, then why not, I'm in.
I am all in favor, but please make it longer! GOW3 is approx 8 to 9 hours gameplay if you really rush it. I am in favor for at least 15 hours, that you can stretch to even 20.
purchase an RPG?
This makes complete sense…..as long as the developer puts in the effort to maximize their exclusive game on the PS3. Unfortunately, not all exclusives smell like roses.
GoW3 was a bit short. But maybe it felt that way because I liked it so much. But to critique it. I felt the first 2/3 were better than the last 1/3. All of the box-like rooms and the Ico-like girl stuff didn't do much for me. And sometimes I feel the game could've used a bit more straight-up action sequences. Having played GoW2 recently, it felt healthier with more combat segments.
Great game though. The graphics! I'll be amazed all year.
If you thought it was too short that means you thought it was an awesome game. I thought id be annoyed buy its short length but i have played through it 3 times already and am on my way to finishing it on Chaos. While its short, the game is fun enough to warrant multiple play throughs. I haven't even finished Final Fantasy XIII because GoW3 is so addicting.

I didnt think it was short at all. Its right on par with every other action game out there. Obviously its not the 15-18 hours that was said at some point during the pre-realse satge but…
Im the type of player in these types of games especially GOW series, that searches for everything and gets every last orb you can find. By doing this and playing on harder difficulties the game lasted around 12 hours for me. I dont run through games liek this i savor them like they were meant to be played. Again 12 hours even 10 is on par with other games of this genre…
Play it on Chaos. It ill take longer then 10 hours and requires much more skill. The lead combat designer for God of War was right, this is no button masher when attempting Chaos.
I hear ya jawknee. Thats my point! It takes skill and on topic TIME.
all major ps3 exclusives rock
MGS4
GOW3
Demon's Souls
LBP
inFamous
Heavy Rain
Uncharted 2……
GT5 and The Last Guardian to come
Exclusive is the way to go, or use one platform for all games, like Kojima predicted. i am fine with that too

Valkyria Chronicles 🙂
I think at this point were sgtarting to realise most developers who think they are maxing out the PS3 are not even close, but are rather maxing out what they (as in their team) can do with the machine.
Pouint is in the Making of GOW3 video on the GOW3 disc, Stig (director) said they were probably around 50% of the PS3 capability with GOW3. That leaves plenty of truth in the quote in this article. Whatever Santa Monica does next should be a dream!
Well I finally found GOWIII at a nice price and it is currently on the way so I can't wait to play it now that FFXIII is in the bag and on the shelf. Of course the media I've seen and demo looked tight but nothing compares to having the product right in front of you. As with all Sony stuff I imagine they won't max it out until the end of its life cycle.
I can't even imagine what Santa Monica has in the hopper next but after a well deserved vacation on their part I would love to be a fly on the wall at one of their brainstorming sessions.
I highly doubt it. It's an unfortunate conclusion I'm mustering up here. I can only imagine polishing up what is there and not necessarily advancing what isn't. In other words, better texture detail, which may go unnoticed. Perhaps more utilization of FSAA instead of HDR? HDR just hurts my eyes… It looks like water colors bleeding through edges more than it gives a game any realism. I can't remember the last time I look at at someone and saw a glare of colors bleeding out of their clothes and flesh! lol..
This is the only thing I think they really need to work on with PS3 games. They're either too jaggy, as Quincunx doesn't seem to possibly be utilized to its potential, or they look like they're glowing.. More 4xAA would be a nice change of pace.. Idk.. Just an observation.
Regardless, I'm not too critical of a games graphics. If they push the graphical bragging to the limit, i usually get caught in a opinionated mindset since the thought is there. Otherwise, I think they look good enough for me to enjoy so long as the storyline and characters are enjoyable. This, to me, is far more important.
If the PS3 can do more than it has, I'll be one happy camper! I'd love to see what it can do as it is amazing for a console! I'm just not entirely convinced that it will be able it..

FINALLY F************!!!! BEAT GOD OF WAR ON GOD MODE AND THE F****#*$^^$! GAME F*****G! FROZE ! so pissed off….
^Ouch…. I feel your pain man.
IO just wanted to say that I am all for exclusives as they give the developers to focus on one platform and give it everything they got.
Look at Uncharted 2 and GOWIII I mean holy crap man…. And also look at Alan Wake and SC: Conviction exclusive to the Xbox… They look pretty damn impressive and I must be honest in saying they are two games I am sad not to have on the PS3 and for the first time I might even want to buy an Xbox to play them.
Yeah well go ahead and hate me for what I just said, but the point I am trying to make is that Exclusives always seem to have something that the multiplats don't….
But then again there are some amazing multiplat titles that also shows that it can be done across the board, i just find that the exclusive are more consistent in blowing my mind…
