Sony has recently said to expect Gran Turismo 5 to launch this fall; it's supposedly a "guarantee" that it won't slip out of 2010.
In the meantime, racing fans everywhere are inquiring after the cause of the significant delay. You may recall that it was initially expected to release in Japan in March, so to push it all the way to the end of the year is a big deal; we simulator aficionados simply want an explanation. And at first, we thought we had one: while the game is around "90% complete," Polyphony apparently wanted to add 3D technology and a nifty little GPS feature. But now, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said that neither 3D nor PlayStation Move support is included in GT5…yet. According to an interview he gave PSM3 magazine and as cited by CVG , Yamauchi made the situation quite clear, although he didn't rule anything out:
"We're always attuned to new technologies. If there are display devices or peripherals that seem interesting, I'm sure we'll work to support them."
At this point, it's likely that the fans just want GT5, with or without the frills. The idea of 3D and Move support is just fine but if it causes another delay, the decision to include such technology won't go over very well. Here's hoping that GT5 will be ready to go this fall.
Related Game(s): Gran Turismo 5
The longer Gran Turismo 5 takes for it to release, the higher the standards of this game are raised. Sometimes delaying a product a little too long results in the complete opposite of what the provider was going for. Keep the fans waiting too long and you're setting yourself up to fail in meeting unrealistic standards piled on from all the years gone by.
This game could have came out in '08-'09 and been a great success, paving the way for it's successor of 2011-'12. Instead, people are going to want perfection the first time around…and indeed GT5 developers are aware and aiming for that. A task that has proven to be overwhelming and foolish. Just ask Dr.Dre about Detox…apparently its first single is slated to come out soon (whoopie-doo). After 10 years of a wait, who the hell cares and it won't meet its fans standards, trust me.

Hey Fluffer nutter,
No, the damned button was missing from your last post to me too, although a few other poster's buttons are still there.(the same goes for your report spam button too, although I don't have much use for it anyway cause Ben usually stays on top of it & deletes it right away, LOL).
Not sure what the hell it is or what's causing it, but once anybody hits a poster's reply button just once, it goes AWOL on me.
So when that happens, I have to find the closets poster under yours that still has their reply button showing, and I wind up having to use theirs to reply to yours, or others.
And other times, when I "do" have the reply button there, and I replied back, my post still goes to wherever the site decides to place it.
BTW, this is the only site I've ever been to that ever does this, loses the reply button, & also plays hit-or-miss roulette with placement of my posts.
And believe me, it winds up driving me even more bonkers than the guys trying to decrypt who the hell I'm even replying to.

I'm replying to you. Now look at your post, above mine, reply to that and you'll see what we were referring to. The light will turn on. LOL
The reply button only appears on new comments.
If you are replying to someones replies, you need to click the Reply button on the original comment.
🙂
That happens to me sometimes too Biker!
Hey Fluffer nutter(and Gordo too),
Thanks for trying to help.
OK, I turned the light on, but it's still a bit too dim, I think, LOL
Hmmm, let me see if I'm understanding you right, on how to do this correctly.
So you're saying that if I want to reply to someone, I have to hit "my own reply button" to do it, instead of hitting that person's button to whom I want to reply too?
So, is that right???
(If so, it just didn't make much sense to me, & I've never been to a site that does their reply button butt-backwards).
BTW, for this post, I just hit my own reply button in my post above yours to test this theory out, but this is where my reply still landed, 4 spots down.
ARRRGGGHHHH, no wonder my hair's growing grayer by the second.

@Biker,
The reason your post went 4 spots down is because people were posting at the same time you were so it puts them in order by timestamp of when you hit the submit comment button.
As far as why the reply button only shows for the original post, if everyone had a reply button we would have threads spreading out from left to right all the way across the page. Therefore, by putting the reply button on the original post, they keep the threads uniform and straight down the page. You are overthinking the structure.
If you want to reply to someone, scroll up until you find the post with the reply button and just put the person's name in your post that you are replying to. It is quite simple.
i thought 3D technology and a nifty little GPS feature were the whole reason it got set back from its march release.
anyway, honestly i could not care less what GT5 does, or does not support.
hell give me the trial demo with at least 300 different cars and ill be happy.
im sick of waiting 5+ years for this to release!
it would be ok if we had other things to tide us over till release, to fill the itch but we dont.
GT5P was so plain and boring i got sick of it in a day, i have not tried forza 3, and as for NFSS its a great game but not exactly a substitute for GT5.
so i conclude JUST RELEASE THE FU**ING THING ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last edited by ___________ on 4/6/2010 2:30:08 AM
What are you talking about? There are many games to tide us over. Okay, let me rephrase that. There are many games for those of us that don't whine and complain continuously because we're stuck in a bottle. Smile, damnit.
flutter nutter, thats asking way too much of this grouch but he probably meant racing games
Last edited by aaronisbla on 4/6/2010 6:01:24 AM
racing sims you donkey!
how can a say FPS be a substitute for a racing sim?
@Karosso,
Thanks for letting me know it's not just me that has problems with the postings!
Now I can tear up this new prescription for Prozac, LOL
"Sigh"……Negative No Name is at it again. Can someone please get this guy some Effexor for his depression?
@ no name
will you just pipe down
cant they just patch this and release the game now?
That would be an awesome announcement for E3
dont care how the game looks, feels or how long it takes to come out..You will need a force feedback steering with forcefeed back pedals flappy paddle gear changes or gearstick controls to get the most out of this game!
You don't know how much I want this game.
But if the game's 90% complete then those last 10% are the most important. The game needs a finished feel to it and GT has always delivered that and that's why we love it.
I know that 6 years is a heck of a long time for a game to be in development but that's what you get when you're not as limited by the hardware.
For example, imagine how much longer the cars take to model at 500,000 polygons next to GT4's 4000 and there's 300 more cars in GT5.
Getting the textures and lighting just right as well. There was only so much you could do with the PS1 and PS2 before you hit it's limit. Never mind the limit of CD's and DVD's next to BD.
The extra processing power will allow more realistic physics and more human like AI which will take more time to develop.
And at the very least the move to HD will show up any little imperfections. I know the NTSC release of GT4 supported 1080i but really how many people actually played it in HD.
It better live up to expectations, which have been built up to a level higher than just about any other game of this generation.
Even with FFXIII, people knew that it would be linear and wouldn't have towns, so their expectations were tempered. Not so with GT5 – anything that any other racing game can do, GT5 will do 5 times better.
Okay. We'll see.
i dont have the coin for a good wheel, so this game isnt on my radar. racing simulators and me dont cooperate unless i have a wheel in my hands and pedals under my toes.
but 3d is an all-win situation, long as they give the option to sink it in to the screen instead of pulling everything out away from the screen. that way when someone just wants to be able to judge corners better without getting motion sick (like me) they can do that.
Last edited by LightShow on 4/6/2010 8:11:54 AM
You need the dfgt wheel for this, makes it all so, so much better, worth every penny.
Uhh…….Move or 3D wasn't included in all those delays?
Thats what worries me. Normally a ton of delays is a bad sign. Its even a worse sign when they tell us the delays didnt happen because of new technology. That means the huge delays are because of something they dont want to tell us about. Look at other games that have huge delays. Too Human was embarrassing, i've heard from many people that the Splinter Cell Conviction demo is terrible (which makes me very sad)…
The Conviction demo wasn't terrible at all and the last delay was for some multiplayer issues that cropped up… we wouldn't want annother MW2 issue… as for the delays… I think most of that is they keep adding more and more BS to the game… I mean the game isn't that huge in the US so why go out of their way to add NASCAR to the game at launch? Add that in later to bolster long term sales… I think it's crazy that everyone defends all these delays… I'm still angry over the Conviction delays and as for Too Human… alot of problems occure when you have to switch engines mid way through development
now I don't remember when the 90% news was announced again, but I don't think it was six months ago(which is the 10%) so actually they do still have a bit of extra time for the following actual delay…
Anyways, as long as it makes the game super awesome, like not just regular super awesome, but more like really fancy, shiny, super awesome.
It might be a bit of a problem in the end though, because all over the web I see people commenting, oh no another delay, fck u polyphony I won't buy this now.
Those people will still buy it guess, but there might be a few original buyers who won't, that costs.
imo , they are done with all the major coding and stuff, me thinks they are just polishing and adding the bells and whistles, maybe working on the soundtrack and that kind of stuff, i seriously doubt they will rework a whole lot of stuff just to add technology support that less than 1% of the potential release market will have acces too, so i think it would be pretty stupid to delay it cuz of that…
no…i dont think the delayhs are because of 3d , i think its more of a them giving themselves an unspecified timeframe , so they can release it in christmas ift hey want to, good idea though, plenty of other games releasing this first half so it makes sense to wait till end of the year
I say GT6 should be in 3d because by the time it releases, everyone will have a 3D TV in their house. Sure some games need to support the 3D option right off the start, but I don't think a lot of people will buy into this 3D thing for a while yet. Some early adopters will pick up on it right away, but most people will just wait until it drops in price.
As for GT5 and Move? No thank you. Although wasn't there talk a little while ago of there being some kind of motion control with the PSEye? if you looked to the corner of your screen, your camera view would look out the side window or something? That's kind of neat but full on controlling the care with a Move is something I don't think would go well. A force feedback wheel would be better.
Meh. Sorry, I can no longer muster up anything about this, wake me when it launches.
highlander, you gonna sleep that long? OK, whatever, we will wake you. Enjoy your hibernation.
Seriously, i just want them to at least release a solid launch date.
@Rogers,
Unfortunately my wife woke me early and reminded me I work for a living – LOL! No hibernation for me, but Polyphony needs to understand that many gamers (myself included) are so fed up waiting that if GT5 doesn't knock our socks off, it will be harder to persuade us that GT6 is worth worrying about.
No need for Move, that is what the wheel is for, 3D is nice but that as it is such small amount of people using it it is not worth any delay, just release a patch to implement it.
I just bought NFS Shift this weekend because I am tired of waiting for this game. They should just stop it with the teasing, 90% done…, can release anytime etc.. and just STFU! Only thing I want to hear from them is a non moving shipping date so I know when to head out and hand over my cash for it.
it doesn't need Move but it would certainly be nice to have the option.
Yeah, though I am not sure how it will work unless they release a plastic wheel to slot it into like on the Wii. All this stuff can be added later, it is not a core part of the game.
Think I am going to follow Highlanders lead and just ignore all things GT and be pleasantly surprised when I see it on a shop shelf. I now expect a late November release date as this is a system seller game that would be good for the PS3 sales this xmas.
3D and move something else to make this game not come out already all these features and how long it's taking to come out thay better not forget the 1 feature that will make me bye this game or not costome music!!!!!!!
Agree, the music really annoys me in prologue, what is worse than hearing music you hate, hearing it for the hundredth time!
I have had to turn the music off and instead of listening to music I like through my 7.1 system I have to hear it come out of my phone!
There was an article a couple months back maybe, where 3d was included in the final game. what happened to that lol? To me id rather not hear anything about GT5 til it releases. Theres to many things to speculate on that whenever somethings said, its denied later or the other way around.
I recall that 3d, and a gps feature were part of this set back though. I dont know this is outta control!

You know, Sony's official site about 3D and whatnot have GT5 in the background. Perhaps that's meaningless?
I think there may be some meaning lost in that translation. I just don't see a direct, "No, these features are not in GT5 yet."
It's likely that Sony desires GT5 to have 3D enabled, whether it is at launch or not, well at this point it seems unlikely. However, I will say they've already done this under normal circumstances as seen here:
http://ces.gamespot.com/story/6245185/gran-turismo-5-in-3d
And to a much much higher degree of fidelity than my pocket will be able to afford at any point in the foreseeable future, ala:
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/11/19/pfft-1080p-gran-turismo-5-prologue-in-2160p/
It doesn't mention it in this particular article, but I do believe that this setup used 3D also. Either way though, PD's already got a 3D system setup for GT5, it's more likely they're making certain everything else is polished, re-polished, and polished again. I'd also be willing to bet they're putting off the launch date to be able to add as many cars as humanly possible.
At this point I think they just don't want to release it until the holiday shopping season is in full swing.
There was no reason for 3d to delay it in the first place, if many other games can apparently have it patched in later why can't gt? And why would the move even be thought of for gt? Motion controls don't work for steering anything with precision aka the lair syndrome.
