The newest Gran Turismo will boast a host of upgrades and enhancements, as we'll certainly expect extremely refined visuals and yet another improvement on authenticity and realism.
However, another improvement will involve the game's AI, which has been chastised in the past. According to CVG's sister mag , PSM3, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said the AI in GT5 will be more "human-like" than ever before. In order to have a proper simulator, it helps to present us with a field of opponents who appear to compete like real racers; this is obviously a major aspect of the experience. Said Yamauchi:
"How close the AI can come to human lap times? That was the focus of development up until GT4. Now that has been successful to some degree, an attempt has been made to express more human-like behavior in GT5."
Earlier this year, Yamauchi stated that GT5 was about "90% complete," despite the fact that it has now been delayed to the fall. We know they took the extra time partly due to the addition of 3D functionality and a nifty GPS feature, but most fans simply want it to hit store shelves ASAP. The good news is that when it finally does arrive, you can bet on the finest GT yet, with the most diverse selection of cars and tracks. We're still not sold on the whole NASCAR thing but hey, NASCAR is huge. We get that.

Indeed. It's a difficult endeavor. There is a reason no one from any other league has been successful in NASCAR.
You said it perfectly Irievibes..
I just dont find peoples ability to stay awake all that exciting or see how it takes skill.. but clearly you guys like it so enjoy.
As someone else said its just an extra feature. 🙂
ok think of it like this….ANY fool can climb a rock, but there is a reason so many people DIE climbing the everest, its not a matter of just staying awake, it actually gets HARD, to even keep your vision from blurring and focused on what you want to focus after 3 hours of doing so, its the strain and tension of all the small things , over a prolong period of time , make it an endurance race…
i am not a HUUUGE fan as i said, but i can understand its appeal, ill be happy to get into the nascar mode in GT5 and learn more about it! more features is always a plus!
That analogy is a bit exxagerated compared to car racing. but i understand your point.
Heck im going to have a go off it too!! I might even become a fan. gotta learn to keep an open mind with these things!!
I'm perfectly happy to wait until the game is finished in the eyes of the creator. If released before then it would be like stripping the game of its soul.
I want the whole experience, and I expect I will be pleased.
Same for me, what's so exhilarating about 4 hours of left turns? My guess is the fans that actually go to the races just get turned on by a deafening amount of engines and enjoy huffing gas fumes.
And even though I heard the AI was supposed to be improved back before the last couple delays its still more of a draw than the 3d and that seemingly even more pointless head tracking.
GT was overdue for an AI overhaul since GT2 or so. If a car crashes into you, you have to work to keep your car stable or, if you're in a light car at a high speed you're almost certainly going to spin out.
But if you crash in to the AI its like trying to move a dump truck. It'll be interesting to see a group of cars not moving on such an obvious rail.
I really like the head tracking idea, I always use in car or bumper view. The ability to be able to use my mirrors as I would in RL will be great.
how lil u understand a nascar race if you think speed is the main factor here…
you do know these guys are driving for 5 to 6 hours STRAIGHT right? not only that, but as the track gets hotter, and you get more tired, it gets progressivley harder to drive and shave those lap seconds, not only that, but you have to play with your pit ins and tires
yeah its all right turns, nascar is a strategic, and endurance race, not a who gets from point a to point b faster…
i am not a huge NASCAR fan, but i understand its appeal
me too imagi, since i heard the head tracking idea, i said in my mind "Finally!" i can actually drive like a real car, i can use rearview mirrors and look at the guy next to my door if i want to without having to bind a whole bunch of keys to do so..sounds awsome, if they are taking time to add these kinds of features its a-ok by me
GT5 to feature more "human-like" AI? Does that mean getting the occasional bump causing you to wipe out? LOL. Whatever, what they really mean is making the AI harder to compete against I bet. "Human-like" would mean seeing AI biff and screw up..but like other platforms with "better AI" it only means making it a pain the rear to play against.
The Nascar feature should be awesome, racing is racing people. GT5, rock on.
Good point. Kaz acknowledges that NASCAR is a motorsport, yet alot of people wont.
dont care just release the fudging thing already!!!!!!!!!!!
The addition of NASCAR to Gran Turismo is another reason why I love Kaz.
There is not only the practical reasons, such as sales in the USA, it is further proof of Kaz's love for the automotive industry.
He doesn't mind at ALL that a good chunk of GT fans won't care for NASCAR. Why? It's racing. It's skill. It's pure unadulterated horsepower. There are 75 million NASCAR fans out there right now. How many of those represent potential sales?
There is a NASCAR video on the US Playstation Store in which highlights Kaz as he tours a race event. He talks about how he is a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and how he loves the atmosphere due to the mass amount of people in attendence.
Bravo KY and PD for including the biggest motorsport on the planet (holds 17 of 20 top 20 attended sporting events in the world).
Seriiously Ben, your not excited about them including Nascar. This is one of the reasons why I am anticipating GT5 and I am far from a Nascar fan. I like the fact that game is so diverse. And even if you don't like it, look at it as a bonus feature.
yeah it's kinda the same as OtherOS feature
even if you don't use it it's still a feature, and shouldn't have been removed
>:(
the longer the wait, the better the game
I have GT5 on the brain…
Hey Ben! What don't you like about NASCAR? Or are you worried about something?
