After Burner Climax Locks On To PSN, XBLA Dates

"After Burner" is a name that many veteran gamers will recognize, as it was a mainstay in many arcades back in the '80s and early '90s. And now, it's coming back in digital download form.

Back in 2007, handheld owners got After Burner: Black Falcon for the PSP and the year before that, Sega released After Burner Climax in the arcades. According to GameSpot , Sega has announced that the latter will arrive on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace in April. It'll hit the XBLA on April 21 and a day later on the PSN; the former version will cost 800 Microsoft Points and the latter version will cost $9.99. This will be a high-definition jaunt through enemy-infested skies featuring three planes, 20 stages, and "branching paths." Furthermore, true to the game's name, the "Climax" gameplay mechanic will let you slow down time for easier missile locks and evasive maneuvers. A2M is at the helm for this one; they're the same guys who gave us classics like Out Run , Space Harrier and Virtua Fighter , so they know what they're doing.

Recognizable names always seem to do well in downloadable format, probably because they're relatively cheap and many simply like to relive the golden age of gaming.

Always preferred Top Gun, as difficult as it was.

I kinda enjoyed After Burner back in the day. But for my jet fix, I'm hoping another Ace Combat comes our way at some point.

These jet airplane games used to be so popular. Nowadays they seem doomed to failure. I certainly don't want to play them.

That doesn't mean others don't. Doomed to failure seems like such a harsh statement.

we have a absolute drought of fighter jet games, the best one we have is hawx and thats pretty pathetic because that sucked.

Has anyone had problems with psp afterburner? Mine just wont continue after the first stage.I read somewhere that Sony compressed the game .they took it off of PSN and now I feel like I got screwed.

Jet fighters aren't really my thing. They can be fun, but it gets repetitive a little too quickly for me.
