Final Fantasy IX Should Be Cleared For A PSN Landing

The most downloaded PlayStation classics on the PSN are Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII , so wouldn't it stand to reason that Final Fantasy IX should arrive at some point?  Isn't that logical?

Of course. And according to Examiner.com , Square-Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto said he would introduce the idea of bringing FFIX to the PSN at the company's next board meeting. Well, that idea must've gone over well because Hashimoto stated on his Twitter page that as this is the game's 10th anniversary, the board members approved of the plan. We should expect an official announcement "by next Friday at the latest" and that'll be great news for all RPG and FF fans around the world. This means we would now have the best of Final Fantasy during the franchise's golden years on the PS1; PS3 owners will be able to go online and download FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, and Final Fantasy Tactics . Of course, if you already own them all – as any good fan would – this doesn't interest you, but it's great for bringing in new fans, and allowing those who didn't get a chance all those years ago to indulge now.  And oh yeah, they're all actually turn-based .

And you're trying to tell me a FFVII remake wouldn't work? It took long enough for S-E to finally consider the possibility , didn't it?

It's pretty obvious that this will come eventually. Most likely a 6 month gap between each FF PSone title. The main question is, will they continue the trend into PS2 titles, or will they just stop right there.

BTW.. I'm waiting for that damn premium account for unlimited PSone classic download. It feels like the value of the premium account is degrading every time I pay for a FF classic title.

Wanna bet that the 'premium' services include PS2 emulation and download of PS3 classics?

You meant PS2 classics right?

ROTFLMAO! YES! Indeed. PS2 (TWO) classics.

LOL! Now that's not a typo I want to make again.

Highlander, if PS2 emulation would be the biggest draw for the Premium Package, what is my incentive to pay for it? I still have my BC 60gig, has hasn't shown the slightest sign of quitting anytime soon.

I would say the same reason people like me buy PS1 classics like Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX even though the Slim AND the 60gb emulate PS1 games. They are prices fair and are convenient to have. Some of these older games like ICO that are hard to find might be a reason too.

@Main_event

Owners of BC capable PS3s are a minority, so while it may be of less use to you, it is of use to any new owner and the majority of current owners.

Also, there is a PSP2 somewhere in the pipeline. If that little beastie managed to pack the punch of a PS2 – including backwards compatibility, then making PS2 games downloadable over PSN suddenly becomes a very, very hot prospect indeed.

True, about me being a minority. i just hope that we aren't left out just because we bought a system at launch. that sends a bad message.

@Main_event,

Me too, I have two of the original 60GB systems, and so far so good..

As for being left behind? The original PS3has all the hardware that the Slim has, and then some. All Sony has done is remove hardware, make cheaper components and put in a bigger HDD.

If they manage to make PS2 games downloadable for PS3, it will be for ALL PS3s.

I mean with the Premium Stuff. I support Sony as much as i can but i'm not gonna pay for something i already have.

Assuming the main draw of the Premium stuff is the PS2 Emulation.

The reduced price for the classic titles is nice but i don't download enough to see a return on the subscription costs. but i can see how it would be a great deal for those who own a slim or non-bc ps3.

Why is it that the most downloadable PS Classics are both FFVII and FFVIII and yet turn based jrpgs are no longer being made? What the hell IS that?

Helloooo ! These games are still selling like bread years after their release. A FFVII remake is a no-brainer, but come one, make some new turn based jrpgs already !

They will take the turn based out of FFVII if it's remade. Mark my words. Square is now the twitching gaming appeaser.

I don't know… they didn't do that for any of the DS FF remakes.

Only flaws you have there are:

A] FFVII was never turn based but rather ATB, which is kind of similiar to tur-… [well you should know what it is].

B] As FFXIII being an example of SE's newer games, the stripped down battle system of FFXIII is also ATB, only on sterioids with a few changes & add-ons.

Basically I disagree with your prediction.

Basically your name says it all.

You can set the ATB in FFVII to Wait or Active, so YES it is turn based.

It CAN be turn based. Can be. If you never knew the config exists [for some God forsaken reason], then you'd be playing ATB all the way through.

And btw, thank you for not being able to strike at point B. Also my main point says it all, so let's make a bet shall we? If they DON'T f**k up the battle system of the FFVII remake [with no ATB OR ability to play turn based], you stick your head in the toilet.

Deal?

Excellent, another purchase coming up.

Does anyone else find it ironic that by far the easiest money that SE are making this generation is coming via downloaded re-releases of FFVII, FFVIII and soon to be FFIX? Considering the way that SE has essentially abused the loyalty of the PS brand and consumer with their 'new' games, they show an odd amount of loyalty with the re-releases. Perhaps someone within SE realizes that PS gamers are their core audience? Perhaps?

No…what's bad is that the PSP Mini Tetris still costs more than those PS1 classics. 😉

I think that 9.99 is pretty damn fair. seeing as how i shelled out $60 for RE directors cut, and $50 for RE 2 and 3 respectively. but that 5.99 is a steal.

Sweet game. And unlike VII, it's been so long since I played it and I only played it twice. It will be almost like new to me. Better charge up the psp. I think IX was one of the most beautiful looking games on ps1.

yeah, i have the original discs right now for 7, 8, 9. i decided to collect it a while back along with their strategy guides, i'm missing 7 guide though. so right now i got 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 11, 12, 13, crisis core, dirge of ceberus, and dissidia. I'll get the handheld ff versions later. but even though i have all these final fantasy games right now, i dont see myself playing any of it anytime soon. I'm around 78 hours into FF13 and the only sidequests i've done are the mandatory ones and the one related to getting the growth egg. Now i'm about 6 hours into maxing out each role. i usually get the max cp every 2 hours, well…thats the max time, it depends on how stubborn the adamantoises are. But once its done, im gonna start to power through the trophies, then start on my backlog of games.

Ohh, and i'm 1 trophy away from bad company 2 platinum too. anyone with tips on how to get demolish kills? you know, dropping a house on enemies.

I used to have the FF7 guide……. my little sister lent it to her boyfriend without asking me…… they broke up…. I'll never see it again… If that little piss-ant wasn't in another province (Yeah, I'm Canadian) I'd go to his house myself. >.<

By the way… that FF7 strategy guide sold over a million copies… FOR THE STRATEGY GUIDE! Yet another reason to remake it, no?

I have question since I've always been curious…

How does the "switch to next disc" thing work with the downloadable titles? Did they remove those moments? What is it like playing these games on your PS P/3? I'd like to know because I might want to download them when I finally get the 250 gb PS3 (even though I have the original discs for these games ans well as the War of the Lions UMD).

TheHighlander

There is a special menu that let's you handle this. The games run more or less unmodified, the emulation handles the disc change.
