Mafia II Set To Strongarm Shelves On August 24

It has been over seven years since the original Mafia released so obviously, a sequel is long past due.

Take-Two Interactive has announced that Mafia II will launch for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in North America on August 24, nearly eight years after the first title dropped on August 28, 2002. Similar to the gameplay of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Mafia II will be set in the '40s and '50s and you will follow the exploits of Italian-American Vito, who starts out trying to dig himself out of the gutter. And what's the fastest way to rise to the top of the world? Why, become a wise guy of course, which is why Vito starts to tag along with his buddy Joe and try his hand at some dark, underground stuff. The atmosphere will be crucial, which is why 2K has gone that extra step in ensuring the game's authenticity; they even inked a deal with PlayBoy (oh, just click it to see the pillow fight). If you've always loved those gangster movies and you enjoyed titles in the past like The Godfather and Scarface: The World is Yours , this one ought to be right up your alley.

It's only the start of a busy quarter for Take-Two, which should also release L.A. Noire , Max Payne 3 and Civilization V in that same span of time. Okay, so like…buy stock around late June or early July, right?

So excited about finally getting to play this game. I've been waiting for a long, long while and I'm really happy that the release date seems to be in-between my other anticipated titles for the year ('Peace Walker' and 'New Vegas'), allowing me plenty of free time to delve into this.

Wow I didn't realise it was that long ago. Saw some gameplay for it a few weeks back, I'd definitely give it a go.

This game better not be delayed, or they just might find "The dead head Of Mr.Ed in their bed"

I've never been big on the Gangster stuff. I did try Mafia I and it was stale. Sopranos was boring, never bothered with the Godfather. The story to this game is cliche. Pass and wait for LA Noire.

But you just HAVE to watch Goodfellas. I too find most Italian gangster stuff boring, but Goodfellas was just ace.

The first Mafia was actually quite good. Very heavy on the details. The way the cars drove, the way the guns shot, it was quite realistic compared to other games at the time.

Story and missions were not blockbuster though so I think it kind of died from lack of 'wow' factor.

It leaves me with mixed feelings about part 2. I tend to feel that I'm going to enjoy Civ V a lot more.

The worst thing about the first one was it went from not too hard to insanely difficult in the last few hours.
