Although we've already seen several gigantic titles in 2010, don't gloss over the second half of the year. Games like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow should be high on your priority list.
Konami's David Cox has continued to provide updates on the promising action game via his Twitter page , mostly dedicated to the new Castlevania iteration (although he does link us to a new Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker video, too). If you peruse his latest comments, you will learn more about what to expect from the newest vampire-slaying adventure. First of all – and perhaps most important – Cox confirms that the Combat Cross will be the "primary weapon," so those of you expecting an old-school whip to take center-stage might be a touch disappointed. Secondly, he reveals some of the areas we will explore in the game; this includes "Refactory, Clock Tower, and the Library," and all of them should sound familiar to long-time fans. I mean, how can you have a Castlevania without such places? Oh, and let's not forget about the music: this franchise is well known for featuring some of the best soundtracks ever (I still say Symphony of the Night has the best music in history), and Konami shouldn't let us down in this category. Lords of Shadow will not only include new tracks, of course, but it will also boast classic CV tunes "interwoven here and there."
Now, I don't know about you guys, but this is easily one of my most anticipated titles of 2010. I'm not naive enough to expect another 2D CV for the PS3, so I suppose I can be happy with a supremely well done 3D game.

I can't wait until you review this game. I have been excited about this since they had the countdown clock first annoucing it. This will no doubt be a beautiful game and I can't think of any bad Castlevania titles so this should no doubt be an amazing title. As long as the don't pull a Final Fantasy and leave it like the earlier isntallmants this should be a must have. King od weird about the whip though. Can't imagine there not being different whips as your main weapon in a Castlevania game but I'm sure they will be in there somewhere.
"I can't think of any bad Castlevania titles so this should no doubt be an amazing title."
Castlevania 64 and Castlevania (Yes, just the name)
Well Koji Pro is working on it so I'm game. Haven't seen enough to warrant a day one purchase. I'd also have to break my rule of not paying full price for multiplats but its the Koj! There's always exceptions to every rule yea, no?
I wish they would stick with 2D. 2D does not have to die as a gaming format.
I agree. My first big disappointment with 2D going 3D was when Capcom stopped making Megaman and Megaman X side scrollers. Megaman Legends and the new X games were terrible in my opinion. It's nice that they went back to 2D for Megaman 9 and 10 but they are incredibly hard now for some reason.
I'm definitely awaiting this title too Ben as a lifetime Castlevania fan myself, but I WAS hoping for the whip to return. I wonder how this "Combat Cross" works, maybe it's something like in Dante's Inferno (which worked very well).
I just saw (and heard) every collected piece of work including the soundtrack to the axed Castlevania: Resurrection for Dreamcast. Man I wish that game had been made.
I consider Castlevania to be one of the best gaming worlds created, and this looks really promising. I hope it's well polished, has tight controls and they take a few pages (even chapters) from GOW. We need this to be good.
The only thing that would make it even more promising, is if they let you hunt down the cast of Twilight in it.
lol
Anybody ever thought it was weird that Castlevania was never really about killing vampires? As far as I can remember only Drac was a real one.
Haha, I whole heartedly agree with you there! You almost get a Ghost & Ghouls (they should make a new 2D game of that, too!) cast of enemies with Castlevania. It wasn't a big deal to me. I only saw them as minions cast out by the Vampire(s) to hinder your mission.
The whip is a very classic weapon. I can't foresee something being more effective OR enjoyable. Unless, of course, the Combat Cross is attached to Chain(s)! Essentially a Chain Whip, I'll shut my mouth and be happy with that. 🙂
Wait, let me investigate.. mmm hmm.. mm.. hmm..

Many pictures show his Cross chain-less, however other images show it as the handle of a chained weapon. Perhaps it'll be upgraded to include a chain? Maybe you can attach it to numerous other weapons (war-hammers, chains, etc) to power them with Vampire killing strengths?
Either way, the images look very gothic and just the namesake give me that giggly feeling of joy. YAY!!! 😀
I gave up hope on a 2D installment for ps3. Would like to see a great one for the psp, though. Symphony plays great on it.
im willing to bet this wont see 2010
I can't wait for this game. I love Castlevania.
Yea, I fall under the disappointed category. Ever since they showed the new "main" weapon, I've been on the edge of losing my mind lol. The thing I'm having trouble with is that I thought the only weapon that was able to kill Dracula was the vampire killer(the whip). Also if I recall well, in order to wield the whip, you would have to be of Belmont descent. The one true(I say true cause I don't think the 64 games were cannon, but I could be wrong), exception I can find for this rule would have to be SotN and that would have to be due to the fact that you play as Alucard who happens to be Dracs son. Even still I'll give this game a chance like I always do. Hopefully I'm not met with a bag full of disappointment. I am, however, a little sad that IGA wont be joining us this time. He gave new life to castlevania when all seemed lost. Can't complain being that we do have the brains behind MGS. Still, I always wanted to see that game dedicated to Alucard that was rumored to be in dev by him. Looks like it'll never happen 🙁
I remember reading in an interview that this Castlevania is a reboot meaning the story and lore from the other games dont apply.(Like the Vampire Killer and Belmont clan vs Dracula) Kinda disappointing but im lookin forward to it.

This game is definitely on my radar. Hopefully we will get to play it this year.
ive never played a Castlevania game before, but considering the man himself is working on it well i think that speaks for itself.
know what i really miss playing, and would kill for a remake or sequel?
BLADE!
playing that on a friends psp today during class at TAFE and brings back some really good memories.
i miss the old ps1 games they were so much better than todays games, makes me wish we had a studio dedicated to remastering them now that would be a dream come true!
hello…
waiting for it too, humm.. no whip, maybe later they'll add it.
would be happy to see an HD port of the older ones too…
cheers!
I really can't wait for your review on this game. Yeah, it would be a bit naive to expect a 2-D Castlevania for the PS3. But how cool would it be for Konami to give us a Castlevania a-la Mega Man 9/10?
Can't wait! I had forgotten about this for this year so this was a nice pick-me-up this morning.
No whip is definitely disappointing but still my most anticipated title and a day one purchase for me.
Since they announced it I was very interested .Love castlevania.
So the vampire slaying whip has been reduced to an Indiana Jones swinging vine? Damn you Cox ! Go to hell with your Combat Cross… what am I? The Pope??
It can't be any worse than the 64 version.
If you were the pope you would have candy instead of cross to lure in your prey.(wink wink. @Alienage
For sure! LOL
Seriously though, don't reduce the whip to an afterthought.
Castlevania: Lord of Shadows should be a great game. If it's critically acclaimed, then I will definitely consider checking it out (I don't follow Castlevania).
I do have a friend though that loves this franchise, so I'm looking forward in this being an awesome game so I can see him play it.
after all the big releases stormed the Q1 of 2010, actually my biggest two on my near-future waiting list is:
Lords of Shadow AND
The Last Guardian
On top of that, Peace Walker on PSP (the true MGS5 in my heart, and I will salute to the Boss and Big Boss once more again when it comes :D)
so this new Castlevania is the top priority on my waiting list right now.
(i am not that thrilled about GT5, in fact, I lost passion after GT3 already, GT2 is the best btw, cuz it seems to me always the same game again and again, just better polished graphics and tracks plus more car selections, thats all)

lol if it is made in 2D for PS3, then it will only be available as a PSN DLC game, do not expect a blueRay release with a 2D setting, that is called wasting resources. i am not joking.

I just want to see what Kojima's brain brought into this game
So long as the main character is not a Belmont, he must not be able to use the Vampire Killer. I don't remember the new guy's name (or it has not been released) but I don't believe him to be a Belmont. That said I'm totally fine with him using his Combat Cross… that is unless later I find that he is a Belmont in some way shape or form and am utterly dissappointed. Still being of a certain fiction lineage does not translate to a game being good or bad, so I still look forward to this new entry into the Castlevania saga.
