We've often heard whispers about a follow-up to LittleBigPlanet , despite the insistent claims by Media Molecule that producing a sequel would be "counterproductive."
And the latest piece of evidence is sure to spark new discussions concerning the possibility of a LBP2. According to a video interview posted at Game-Vid and reported on by Dutch tech site Tweakers , PlayStation Marketing Manager for Sony Benelux, Folkert Langeveld, may have accidentally confirmed a sequel. He was talking about the future of PlayStation Move; that it will support big-name titles like SOCOM 4 and, in Dutch, "LittleBigPlanet Twee," which translates to "LittleBigPlanet 2." Now, this could just be a mistake for multiple reasons: firstly, Sony and Media Molecule have been pretty clear about their stance on the issue; they will continue to build on the ever-expanding world of LBP and as a result, a sequel would be unnecessary. Secondly, we know LBP will be compatible with Move and perhaps this is what Langeveld was referring to. We probably won't know unless Sony comes forward and clarifies the issue.
The question is, do you want to see a sequel? Or would you rather they simply continue to offer new content for the original? Perhaps they could take the platformer in a slightly new direction with a follow-up? Or would that be a bad idea…?

In November 2009 level designer Danny Leaver dismissed a sequel saying that it would fragment the LBP community. "Weâd never want to do that. Thatâd be the most counter-productive thing you could do I think."

Given that Media Molecule doesn't want to do it, I doubt it's happening. Sony tries to maintain good relationships with their developers, and forcing them to make a game doesn't seem like the way to do it. Then again I'm not in the business so I don't know.
I think DLC with Little Big Planet is the way to go. They could release like a different "universe" which adds a new story line, and the same number of new levels as the number of default levels. I'd be willing to be $20, maybe even $30 for that… The existing DLC like the MGS level kit, and Pirates level kit are nice, but there really isn't a lot of levels to them…
Its because, they are there mainly to demonstrate how to use the new tools.
People mainly await the new packs for the tools rather than new levels.
I think it a mistake.
Fans dont want a sequel yet and LBP still feels as if it has lots more to give.
I hope it was a mistake.
I recall reading that MM's CEO doesnt want to make a LBP 2 because it would insult the fans and all the home-made levels. LBP2 might just be code name for MM's next project.
As much as I agree with LotusFlow3r that is seems a bit early, if they can import old content from 1, while adding in everything they want for 2…it may not backfire on them. LBP still gets tons of playtime in my house.
All i wish is that they fix the lag.Amazing game but the lag is unbearable, being everything is physics based the lag has huge effect on the gameplay.
odd, I've never experienced any lag issues.
LBP Infiniti! got it?!
Maybe he meant LittleBigPlanet "too". We're still waiting for the addition of water, right?
that's what i thought he was saying too…
"…that it will support big-name titles like SOCOM 4 and LittleBigPlanet too."
@shreevin,
Yup, that's exactly what I was thinking 2.
Besides, I though LBP was made to stay in perpetual BETA mode forever, with just the occasional add-on pack needed to update it.
OT: Awesome new avatar Bikersaint ><
Naw, there's no need for LBP2, the timing isn't right yet. The only chance LBP2 has is the PS4, which I find more acceptable.
I actually just bought a copy of little big planet ,so im not really interested in LBP2.
I'd like to see a downloadable version 2.0 that has a whole new story mode to play.
SOLD!
KA-CHING
Yep LBP2 would have to be for PS4 (WHICH I HOPE IT DOESN'T RELEASE SOON(still struggling on with the PS3 price tag))

I'd be willing to buy a ps4 if it is backward compatible with ps3.
Offtopic. Has anybody else seen the videos of the new 3DS that Nintendo is putting out? That's some really impressive 3D for a handheld. Reminds you of LBP. Makes you wonder if LBP could work on the Gameboy. If it wasn't exclusive that is.

If you mean that inside the screen 3d thing, I'm not so impressed by that actually, not from the one video I've seen at least, makes me wonder if it will really be the next best thing for the DS, since it's the tenth new model or something, all I have is a regular old ds, the fat one, which still works fine, probably since I never use it, because I have a psp now, had to get one as soon as I heard some news about a good Kingdom Hearts game on something made by Sony (can't wait to spend my money on birth by sleep, will play it all through summer vacation :D).
Fullmetal I think the one you are thinking of is actually on the dsi and it uses the camera to adjust the view giving the impression of 3d. This is apparently something else but I guess we will see
When an LBP 2 is needed, it will feel right. It doesn't yet.
i agree. LBP2 should be for PS4
Yeah… launch it along with the PS4 and call it LittleBigUniverse. Damn hippy, skippy!
Mistranslation perhaps? He probably could have avoided all this confusion if he had said "also" rather than "too." Not sure as I can't read the source article.
Ben's article clearly states that he said "twee", which means "two" and not "too" (which would be "ook", I believe).

I think that they shouldn't make a LBP 2 because LBP is already good by itself, and with a platformer like that I really see no point for a LBP 2. The only thing I could really hope for is probably more add ons to immerse the game a little bit more. Though I do think medai molecue wants to make LBP 2 because they like recieving awards!!!
Oh s***!
Wonder what LBP2 could be like :O
I think they're planning to release another one in the future (maybe for ps4).
Nonetheless, it's interesting that they're thinking it.
I don't think they should release a sequel, unless it's how Neohumpty says, like make it a downloadable thing for an expansion or totally new storyline thing, I'd buy that.
About the only thing they could do to improve LBP would be enhancing the already great graphics even further. They have everything else pretty much covered. Although I don't doubt for one minute that MM could surprise everyone with some fresh concepts.
I'm not too sure about this.. It's not just about the thought of a sequel; from what I've heard, Media Molecule won't have any part in the development. Everything will be all up to SCEE. I know Sony makes awesome titles, but if they change the developer of LittleBigPlanet, it might not feel like the same LBP we all know.
Could've been and little big planet too. Not two.
id love to see another little big planet, its the only game left thats slightly like the classic ps1 platformers.
now i know what my teacher means when he says 3D gaming destroyed the industry.
but i dont think it will happen 50 bucks says he was misinterpreted and was talking about LBP getting a move patch since this is not news weve known this since GDC.
if they do plan on making LBP2, i hope it's a full 3D environment where you can go any direction, not just left, right, up or down… think along the lines of mario 64 :D…
but, i still think he said, "too" in the article and not "2"…
There's no reason to make a sequel. Any levels for a new one could just be put into the current one, so it'd be pointless.
People asking for a new story on LBP, go make one I say. You can make a story and then make it into as many levels as you need it to be. Then just make the first level open to all, but put a key in it for level 2(easy to find) then level 3 key on level 2 and so on, so people could enjoy your entire story.
what i think should happen is for them to release disks of content just like rockband has, it will do good for people with no internet and will save a bit of cash for people who are thinking of buying them
how could they make a sequel? Wouldn't it just be more professionally created levels?
