Ben-DutkaAny "Top" list is always very subjective – unless you're strictly going by numbers; i.e., review scores, which isn't any fun, anyway – so it's always interesting to read such assembled countdowns.
CVG ran their list of the top 50 PS3 games thus far and as you can see, last year's award-dominator, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , has topped the list, while the 2008 masterpiece from Kojima and Co., Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is in at #2. We certainly agree with that although personally, I keep flip-flopping those two in my head; it's very tough to determine which of those two groundbreaking games is "better" than the other. Then there's Modern Warfare 2 at #3, which we're really not going to comment on – should've been Grand Theft Auto IV , in my opinion – and Assassin's Creed II very high at #4. It even topped the recently released God of War III and although that may sound a little kooky, I distinctly recall being in love with ACII and saying how it didn't get enough love at some awards shows. It really is a damn fine game and certainly one of the best of the generation. The two Bioshock games also get rated high and last year's challenging and innovative RPG, Demon's Souls , rounds out the top 10.
So, what do you think? I think the only glaring issue is that Heavy Rain is way too low at #12 (it's easily in the top 5, in our minds) but other than that, it appears solid. You might like that Final Fantasy XIII is up there at #15; other sources would've probably put it down in the 20s or 30s.
Fallout 3 is like a Ferrari without an engine, it looks pretty, but have fun trying to use it(I'm referring to the ridiculous number of glitches and freezing issues, of course)
How about Valkyria Chronicles? It's easily a top 3, imo.

Now, before anyone rips into me, I have NOT played Heavy Rain yet but after playing the demo, I can guarantee it in my top 10 after I do play it.
I was going to throw the God of War Collection on here but I figured I'd fill my top 10 with games that were designed for the PS3 and not just PS2 rehashes (it's one wicked-@$$ rehash, though).
And whenever it is released, I can pretty much 100% guarantee that The Last Guardian will be in my top 3.

Yes, Afrika at #5. That was one the most relaxing, addicting experiences I've had on a console ever and my girlfriend and I had a great time playing it together.

Why would you rip me for that? Did you dislike the original game? I personally found the first title to have more compelling locations, a better story and much cooler villains. I loved the entire jungle setting compared to the world-jumping of the second game (even though the Tibet level was amazing). I also found a lot more glitches and hiccups with the second title. I had to pause almost every single video just so the words would match the mouths of the character talking.
Again, that's the problem with these lists. Nobody will EVER agree with you. The person who put together this CVG list is dumb, though. There's NO way Flower and LittleBigPlanet should be as low as they are.
flower at 50th? come on. Dante's Inferno(17) higher than Killzone 2(18) and LBP(19) AND Infamous(20)? I'd put Resistance waaaay higher than 46 (wtf?). Also, how the hell is MW2 3rd?

I think it is not possible to establish an ultimate order.
Flower was by FAR the best game possible when playing with my dad. He had his problems with the tutorial of LBP but was thinking about buying a PS3 after playing Flower.
If you are in the mood for a racing game Uncharted2 wouldn't do you much good and so on.

I like CVG. With this top 50 list published I dare anyone to say the PS3 has no games. I'd compare their top 50 to any other consoles top 50 and walk away a happy gamer.

Agreed – where the hell is Resistance 2? It should be on the list. And the Orange Box and Bayonetta should be off the list. They may be good games, but they are bad PS3 games and should not make it on a top 50 PS3 games list.
Warhawk, R:FoM, and DeadSpace should be higher.
Just because Bayonetta and Orange Box bad ports doesn't make them bad games or not deserving to be on the list.
On a side note, I'm surprised Blazblue wasn't mentioned after all the recognition it got as a fighting game [and it being considered better than Street Fighter 4]
What the hell are MW2 and GTAIV doing so high on that list with so many other better games on it?
Also, inFamous, LBP, and both Resistances are way too low on that list.
I'm sorry, there's no other way to say it but that list is full of shit. lots of those games just shouldnt be on it. plain and simple.
Dante's inferno? not even close a game of the month, let alone top 50 of a system.
Ibout know this isnt about GOTY… but anywho… Heavy rain should win GOTY for being so daring. It's not just about the game imo, it's what it does for the industry as a whole… If we have stronger incentives for more original games there will be more of them.
Sorry but I don't agree with the list. Since it was user-generated list, I am not too worked up about it. But my top 5 would be

these lists are pritty pointless though because as they say one mans garbage is another mans pulp puree!
like i showed a friend of mine today GOW3 and he said meh, i prefer army of two the 40th day.
I'd have to say that obviously a lot of the decisions on that list are questionable at best. As for my top picks, I wouldn't even know where to begin. There are so many that I love and I love them for so many different reasons.
I also find it sad that no one mentioned white knight chronicles. I know it got bad reviews but most people that like jrpgs seem to love it, I know I do.
How do I compare demon's souls to Valkyria Chronicles? How do I compare Infamous to White Knight Chronicles? Comparing Mgs4 to Folklore? I can't even fathom comparing Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's souls, and White Knight Chronicles, and technically they are all rpgs.
I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Knowing me one would win one day and a different one would win another day.
Keep in mind that I have not played Heavy Rain, but thanks to demo I know I'll love it too. I haven't played uncharted 2 either. Shooters aren't really my thing so I wouldn't pick Killzone 2 but I can definitely appreciate the masterpiece that it is.
So in the end I'd say my favorite ps3 games are, in no particular order, WKC, Valkryia, MGS4, Demon's Souls, Infamous, and Folklore.
I wish I could chat with someone of you to ask how you picked a number 1. I love all these games so much.

I am kind of a newer Ps3 owner but I don't think number one on my list will ever change. My firefox theme and ps3 theme are MGS I have always been a fan of the series since MGS came out and I bought it day one, I was like 11.
